I do hope your day yesterday was filled with love. Happy 2nd wedding anniversary to Vicky and Matt. It was beyond fun working with these guys, and genuinely seems like it was 5 minutes ago. To work with the gorgeous surroundings, I designed Vicky’s bouquet chock full of foliage in contrasting hues and textures, with a soft but, very definite shape and lots of lovely trails too. Together with the Campbell’s team, we created super tall, lush green designs, peppered with all white flowers, onto stands Matt made from copper piping for their table decorations. Also not forgetting an enormous surprise hoop ordered by Matt’s sis (who some of you might just recognise as the super lovely Jamie of @serentipiltd)! Day Nine of #marchmeetthemaker with @joannehawker and the topic is ‘Learning Curve’ To be absolutely honest, as someone who loves to try new ideas and new ways of designing, my work is pretty much always a learning curve! Take this shot of Emma and Rath at their gorgeous wedding back in 2018 before Moongates were really the thing they are now. I’d created a standing Moongate before, but not at their venue, @thewestmill. The couple were married at the end of the gorgeous aisle and then later in the day also had a Hindu blessing there too. What I didn’t know before I got there on the day was how perfectly my fixings were going to work with the West Mill’s! Obviously I had about 5 back up plans and had allowed myself heaps of time but things just couldn’t have gone more smoothly. The designing is a learning curve - how much foliage will I need, how long will it take to complete etc etc ... it’s usually how to install my crazy idea that’s the issue! Day 3 of #marchmeetthemaker by @joannehawker and today it’s Beliefs and Values I think for me a huge part of what I do is immersed in creativity and something I believe in implicitly. I love self-expression and am particularly drawn to people who express themselves uniquely and authentically. In terms of values being accountable has always been a priority. I’ve always recycled everything, every stem, leaf and flower is composted and all other waste is recycled or repurposed. I use locally and British grown flowers whenever possible and try to improve my carbon footprint year-on-year. This year I made a commitment to working foam free. Day Two of #marchmeetthemaker and the theme is: Your Style I guess it won’t come as any kind of a surprise to tell you I absolutely love flowers! Which means I love textures, forms and shapes which work in juxtaposition. I think my style is very undone, unstructured, soft, natural and wild. It’s definitely influenced by the seasons and what’s around when I’m designing but I’m also always looking to personalise everything I do too, so to me, my best work is when I find that little something that makes whatever I do super special for the people I work with. I absolutely hate recipes when it comes to my job, I find real joy in creative stimuli so it a bit of a soulless way to work counting out the stems. Happily there’s usually a common look and feel in what I do, so your bouquet, bridesmaids, table flowers or whatever it is I’m designing will look like they’re from the same family but will never be exactly the same. Happily the lovely people I work with seem to like this, so phew! Putting these shots together made me think how lucky I am, so thank you lovely couples and lovely photographers alike. I had a wonderful time last weekend @saffronsflowers @myflowerylife ....working with some wonderful florists exploring different ideas, cooperating and generally indulging. The whole experience was very invigorating and I have returned to #sheffield full of joy. It really is so therapeutic to take some time out and it has sown the seed! . . We will be reducing the amount of foam we will be using this wedding season... we will be working with items that we can recycle. The above mantle display is in water with not an ounce of foam! It does help to have a gorgeous receptacle!! I have no doubt the brides that have chosen to work with us this year have the same desire to work with the environment...not against it.
