Would someone ever say this to a Cancer patient?! Why is there a double standard? Now, if you are dealing with cancer and/or a cancer survivor, please don’t go off on me. I personally have at least 2 close friends who are currently fighting stage 4 cancer. One of them has been fighting for over 4 years and spends the majority of her days in the hospital. Her and I have had many deep conversations about the many similarities between chronic illness and cancer. The difference is, when you have cancer, everyone wants to take care of you and checks in on you. But when you are diagnosed with a chronic illness, people don’t know what it is and therefore don’t really understand the severity of pain, grief, trauma and suffering that you are experiencing. The very sad reality is that if we try to explain what we are dealing with on social media, we are accused of attention seeking! Excuse me if I am trying to educate you about my condition so that you can be better informed, understand what my symptoms are and how they affect my daily life, and perhaps this will help you to be more kind towards individuals with chronic illnesses! Good morning my loves! 💕 You're not catching me at my best this morning, I'm treating myself to a few more hours in bed, having had the irrepressible @itsaishafaith come and visit for a sleepover last night. 😴 Now when I say 'sleepover', 'sleep' is actually pretty redundant in that word! 🤣 However, before you all jump to conclusions, I can quite categorically say that we were not, erm, 'at it' all night 🤔 (although would I say that nothing happened at all? Well, a girl never kisses and tells... 🤭😏). Aisha actually means an enormous amount to me, and we hadn't seen each other since the Italian villa earlier this year. So we spent the majority of our time catching up on each others' adventures since then, and laughing, and joking like best friends do, and eating a lot of pizza, 🍕 and drinking cheap supermarket prosecco. 🥂 And then suddenly before we knew it, it was the small hours of the morning. 🫣 So that was the story of my night (and morning). Did I get much sleep? No. Am I completely shattered? Yes. Would I do it again? For someone as dear and amazing as Aisha? Our society has such parameters to judge each and everyone, they just forget or don’t care how much it can impact someone specially a growing kid. Often those subtle remarks by Friends, classmates, family, teachers or strangers, leave scars on a child’s subconscious mind and they might never get over it. Also, there are people who would straightaway call out Bodyshaming if someone is mocked for being overweight but at the same time will shame others for being different. The thing is there is always something !! IT’S EITHER - You are too Bulky You are too Skinny You are too Hairy You are too Bald You are too Tall You are too Short You have big nose You have small eyes You are too Dark You are too white You don’t get good marks - you are a duffer You just keep studying - you are boring You just think about your looks - you are a Bimbo You cry too much - you are a girl And The list is Endless The point is, you will always be TOO MUCH for those who are not able to accept THEMSELVES.
