Our flower growing season has come to its end. We have been busily clearing the beds of old crops and planting out new seedlings for next springs blooms. The ranunculus plants we started from seed are now planted in the field ( fingers crossed we got our timing right on those- time will tell). We have installed a moveable caterpillar tunnel over some of our garden beds to experiment with getting a jump start on spring blooms( spring blooms are my favourites). This off season we will also have some dried flower bunches available ( as pictured here/ more to come on these soon). These are made of a combination of our own field grown flowers along with flowers from other Aussie growers. I should probably also mention - donโt fret the fluffy stuff! time is weird, itโs funny how quickly you forget where you started. a lot of people have said they can recognise a HAF bouquet as soon as it pops up on their feed from the way i photograph them, but iโve only been taking those photos for 2/3 years since having the studio. before that i used to drag around a piece of plasterboard that i painted white and would prop it up on anything remotely flat to get the shot (swipe for evidence). iโm the first to admit i donโt celebrate my achievements but weโve come a long way from making flowers in the dining room at 11pm thatโs for sure โจ
Collecting hotel silver . . . itโs fun to imagine a time when these tea pots started a day on a holiday and I love to collect pieces with lovely shapes and patina. If only they could tell a story! My story today (and why I picked this photo) is that I treated myself to room service on my little adventure to Greenville, SC (this is a really great place!) . . . sadly the silver is now plastic, but the breakfast in bed a nice way to start the day. off to explore and maybe find a treasure or two.

Happy Sunday ๐ธ We are having a very quiet weekend, lots of pottering and sorting the house (and being a taxi service to the kids social lives). My one and only ranunculus! Itโs so pretty with the narcissi and forget me nots. Home . . . the tulips are blooming in Ohio and itโs time to go home. The past few months have provided breathing space, sunshine, walks on the beach, laughs with friends, and the opportunity to love on one sweet baby. All precious gifts . . . but I really miss home and am glad to head back next week. To my ever patient sweetie who knew I needed this time and place to grieve. To our dear friends and community who continue to lift us up. Happy weekend everyone โ๏ธ Itโs a beautiful sunny morning but gee itโs chilly out there ! Daisyโs definitely been needing her coats on for our early morning garden wanderโs just lately. I absolutely love these crispy fresh mornings, especially coming back inside to a cozy warm cottage and making a hot cup of tea. I even noticed yesterday that I have a few little bulbs starting to pop upโฆ which lets me know that itโs definitely the right time to start planting a few more out. Iโve got a fairly easy day ahead. No carers today so weโll get Jeff organised first thing and then Iโm washing my hair. My football team play this afternoon so Iโll be plonking myself down and no doubt screaming at the tv for the next couple of hours ๐ Iโve got a roast that Iโm popping into the oven after the game, easy peasy. I put all the love, alchemy, and fancy spices I could conjure into this one for my dear friend Katherine, who is marrying the love of her life today. We met @freehand.market about 5 years ago and instantly became friends. Katherine is a nurse, so during Covid when she needed space to clear her mind from all of the tragedy she was experiencing at work, she came out to lend a hand on the farm. We share a deep love of flowers, so I was overjoyed to design her bouquet for todayโs celebration. The best part: she picked out the orchid she wanted from @orchidgallerync in Pittsboro and I added toffee roses and seeded eucalyptus from @mayeshraleigh (thank you, Xander!), ranunculus, hellebores, and scabiosa from our farm, and voila! Good morning lovely people. Well we had some tiny spits of rain overnightโฆ not even enough to get the rain water gauge wet ๐๐ It was so dark and grey yesterday with big rainy looking clouds but honestly I think theyโve forgotten how to do it โน๏ธ I kept willing them to let down some of the wet stuff but no, they were hanging onto their precious cargo for dear life ! So itโs the middle of April and I keep watering ๐คจ I got quite a bit done in the garden yesterday. I potted up most of the pansies and violas but I ran out of potting mix so Iโll have to grab a few more bags today. I scattered some catmint (I donโt recall ever actually seeing this growing anywhere before but Iโm sure Iโve probably walked past it at some point in my life not knowing what it wasโฆ or else it just doesnโt grow here and Iโve wasted my money ๐) and some Californian poppy seeds underneath apricot tree number two. I must name these two apricot trees ! Anyway Iโm hoping the little seedlings take off and provide lots more flowers for the darling little bees ๐ Iโm off to Willunga this morning to buy some fresh fish from the local butcher shop, ironically they have the best and freshest fish Iโve ever seen ! Iโll call into Bunnings and pick up some more soil on the way home and then it will be back here to do some more gardening ๐ฉ๐ผโ๐พ Have a wonderful Friday folks and if youโre getting rain please tell it to come my way !
