17 miles in the bag today and only drove 5 minutes down the road for this one. Living in the country definitely has its perks! I even managed to include a park run too ✌🏻. 17 mile loop: Start at Geltsdale nature reserve and take the quarry trail up to where the path meets the road. You go through a large metal gate here. Turn right and head towards Farlam, via Kirkhouse. These are all signposted. From Farlam, follow the trail route to Talkin Tarn. This is where we did Talkin park run. Might as well get one in while we can! Head to Geltwood and via left heading towards the viaduct bridge. From here follow the signs to Greenwell and Castle Carrock. Run through Castle Carrock until you get to the pub and then turn left. Head straight up that road. It’s a very steep incline to the top! At the top of the road, you will see parked cars and a track heading straight. Follow that path until you reach the river. Head over the bridge and via right. Follow the trail path until you reach Talkin Fell summit. The views from the top are unreal! Once at the top, take the path north of the fell. This brings you out towards a road. From the road, turn right and follow that road until you reach the metal gate. You will recognise it from the beginning of the route. Go through the gate and follow the Quarry trail back to the car! It was very boggy today but I intend to come back and do it in the sunshine! T A L K I N F E L L • Start by walking down the track over Hynam Bridge. Turn left, take the path up to the right-hand gate and enter Hynam Wood. Walk through the wood, then you reach a gate onto a walled lane, turn right. As you walk up hill, Talkin Fell will begin to appear above the left-hand wall and a glimpse of stone summit structures. • Pass through a gate, walk along the left-hand wall. Follow the grass track to the next gate, veer left and follow the wall up the hill towards Talkin Fell. At the top of the bank, cross a broken stile and continue to follow the wall around to a ladder stile with a hole in the wall, handy for dogs. • Head to the summit of Talking fell and see the vertical stone pillars. Stunning views of Criffel and distant Galloway hills in Scotland, across the Solway Firth and the Lake District. • From the top, backtrack to the ladder stile and follow the wall to the corner and then branch away from it onto a left forking path, follow it down through the heather until you reach the second gate in the fence. Follow the path close by the fence line heading up, then at the top turn right onto a path that following the rim of Simmerson Hill. The path gradually begins to drop down towards the tree lined banks of How Gill. • At the end of the descent from Simmerson Hill, join a level green path, turning right to make your way back to our start point along Geltsdale. The track drops down and joins with the riverside lane to walk back along the river to Hynam Bridge and back up to the start point. • This walk can be muddy in parts in the winter months. 🥾Walking boots are recommended. • A good walk for kids, after you reach the Summit, you can backtrack the way you came for a shorter, simpler route, missing out Simmerson Hill. . . . . . #castlecarrock #5milewalk #talkinfell #castlecarrock #walkingcumbria #talkinfellsummit #cumbriawalks

Finally made it up to the stone cairn sentinels at the top of Talkin Fell, Cumbria. Just 4 miles from Tailwinds, the 360 views from the top are breathtaking!! Helvellyn, Scafell, Blencthra and Skiddaw kick start the vista, closely followed by the Solway Firth, Galloway Hills, and Hadrian’s Wall, culminating in distant Cheviots.
