🇮🇸 [ #EastFjords, #Iceland] 🇮🇸 . Chiunque abbia visitato l’Islanda, in particolare nella stagione estiva, si sarà imbattuto nelle pecore locali. In Islanda, nel 2020, si contavano 415.949 pecore, ben più delle persone che sono circa 350.000. Gli attraversamenti selvaggi delle pecore sono uno dei principali pericoli per i guidatori dell’isola: spesso a gruppi di tre (una madre con due agnelli), questi simpatici animali si divertono a sbucare sulla strada, dai campi circostanti, senza alcun preavviso. Ma a chi appartengono queste pecore – ci siamo chiesti per tutto il viaggio -? Bene, abbiamo scoperto che, dopo il periodo in cui gli agnelli svezzati stanno a pascolare nei campi attigui alle fattorie, vengono liberati sugli altipiani, dove restano indisturbati a pascolare per tutta l’estate. Alla fine di agosto, che in Islanda è già autunno, ha luogo uno dei momenti più sentiti del calendario islandese: il Göngur og réttir. Perfino gli islandesi di città si recano in campagna ad aiutare parenti e amici in questa sorta di cerimonia contadina, in cui i fattori salgono in gruppo a cavallo e sui quad per radunare tutte le pecore che incontrano, non importa che siano le loro o meno. A poco a poco, tutti i gruppi di pecore vengono convogliati in un recinto circolare, diviso in tanti sotto-recinti disposti a raggiera come i petali di un fiore (ogni fattoria possiede un recinto) e i contadini si recano nel mezzo dove le pecore sono riunite e ognuno si ripesca le sue controllando i cartellini e afferrandole per le corna. Se si vuole partecipare, si può chiedere nelle stazioni di servizio o nei bar della zona in cui ci si trova se sono previste réttir e quando e dove si terranno. 🇮🇸 [ #Jökulsárlón, #Iceland] 🇮🇸 . Se pensiamo all’Islanda, tra le primissime cose che ci vengono in mente ci sono sicuramente il ghiaccio e gli iceberg. Nel nostro giro completo alla scoperta dell’isola, non poteva mancare, quindi, un giro a bordo di un gommone nello Jökulsárlón, il più grande (e profondo) lago di origine glaciale dell'Islanda, situato proprio di fronte al ghiacciaio Vatnajökull. Da questo si staccano degli enormi blocchi di ghiaccio che derivano sul lago, fino alla sua bocca, dove si fondono gradualmente prima di scomparire nel mare. I colori di questi iceberg vanno dal turchese al blu profondo, ma non mancano anche il nero delle ceneri vulcaniche, il giallo del solfuro di origine vulcanica, e ovviamente il bianco, in diverse tonalità. . Il paesaggio è molto suggestivo: si passa dai colori della terra vulcanica, caratterizzata da chilometri di rocce ricoperte di muschio islandese, e rocce dalle forme più svariate, al blu scuro del mare, così imprevedibile e pericoloso che in quest’area è essere sempre in vigore il divieto di balneazione. Se mi chiedeste qual è il posto più straordinario che abbia mai visto, ad ora senza esitare vi risponderei "il #Canyon Fjaðrárgljúfur". Questo nome impronunciabile identifica una enorme spaccatura che i geologi datano intorno ai 2 milioni di anni, profonda circa 100 metri e lunga circa due chilometri, con pareti a strapiombo e un fiume che scorre all'interno. Il panorama dall'alto è davvero surreale: sembra di essere nalla saga de "Il Signore degli Anelli" o "Lo Hobbit". Io più mi guardavo intorno, più stentavo a credere che fosse essere un luogo reale, e non la Terra di Mezzo. A rendere l'atmosfera ancora più magica c'è il fatto che quando abbiamo visitato questo canyon, era solo per noi! Quando siamo arrivati, intorno alle 22, c'era qualche altro visitatore, ma man mano che proseguivamo, anche facendo delle riprese con il drone (ogni angolazione era più spettacolare dell'altra), sono spariti tutti, e in men che non si dica ci siamo accorti di essere rimasti gli unici esseri umani nel raggio di kilometri, ed era arrivata praticamente mezzanotte. Le foto, anche se sembra essere pomeriggio, sono state scattate tra le 22 e le 24. La collina giallo ocra di nome Námafjall è sicuramente uno di questi: “MARTE!” è stata la prima parola che abbiamo esclamato non appena ci siamo arrivati. Qui si trovano le fumarole di #Hverir, un insieme di fontane di fango grigio-azzurro in continua ebollizione, pozze azzurrognole semiasciutte circondate da aloni giallo zolfo e macchie biancastre, e rigagnoli bollenti, con una temperatura che va dagli 80 ai 100°C, che evaporano su croste di fango secco. 🧳Charleston First Full Day 🧳 I started my day driving out to see the #angeloaktree on Johns Island. Then I drove down to see the #oldsheldonchurchruins out in Beaufort County and drove into Beaufort before coming back. Once I got back I went to the #gibbesmuseum of art and checked out an adorable shop across the street. Let’s chat, room service 🛎️ | ad • Unpopular opinion, but I LOVE having a room service night when it comes to going on an all inclusive. There’s something about spending all day at the pool, having a shower, putting some comfies on and having some room service! • Now I have to say, our whole experience at @doubletreemarjanisland was top notch, but their room service was NEXT level. So much variety, everything was so fresh, and still hot when it came up to the room. To top it all off, it was paired with beautiful ocean views. •
