Tooting my own horn 📣 Last Spring I couldn’t even run 1km without stopping or being out of breath…. This morning I just completed my first ever 10km. No walking, just solid running in the rain🌧️, wind💨 and cold❄️ at The Top Gear Track in Dunsfold. I had never really run before this past year, unless I was late for something 🙈. I think the last time was at school in the 200 metres 🙈; which was an awful long time ago, and after all my ops I really thought I would never be as strong or fit as I have been in the past, but I decided to just see what I could do l, and turns out that when you set a goal and put your mind to something you can actually achieve it!! The stress, anxiety, mental well being and figuring out time off, that come with Cancer…is harder than anyone tells you. In my experience (up to this point), it’s heavier than the diagnosis. Working in the ER is go go go, more often than not. Then you become a patient and that mindset tries to follow…it doesn’t work. We like control and being the lead. Becoming a patient requires the opposite. Sean and I have been tested more than we expected. We have focused on coming together and taking one step at a time. It’s all we’ve been able to do. Surgery is May 1 I am having a full Thyroidectomy and most likely central neck dissection. This will buy me a drain, self managed for a handful of days. Hospitalization will be based on how surgery goes, calcium levels, bleeding, infection etc. I love fuzzy socks, fluffy blankets and big pillows (can never have too many). Just wanted to share my discovery, I happened to watch this youtube by Dr Eric Berg last night and noticed that some of the recommended foods matched what I ate in hospital last week for my #thyroidectomy. Other than my BG and BP, my body and mood responded very well and I did not even have the nightly #rheumatoidarthritis RA knee and ankle swells and even my my RA arms improved, less curved and easy to stretch. I ate mainly very low carbs, it was just home-cooked grassfed beef, hard boiled eggs, nuts and blueberries. And usually I do not eat beef much , let alone grassfed beef at all. Just so happened my no-beef mom was not in town, I could get my helper to cook grassfed beef for me every lunch and dinner for the 1st 4 days. I experimented once to have about 0.5 dough fritter in my bak kut teh soup in hospital to see how is my BG is responding and my body immediately went heywire, giddy spells, sudden 80% drop in energy, BP going even more cranky than it was, and weird pressures to only half of my head causing my delayed discharge for 2 whole days. In the past 6 days after discharge, I only had 3 weird episodes whenever I had small amounts of carbs or sugars like 1/3 portion of 1 serving of coleslaw in Aston or about 1/2 portion of burger bun in Merci Marcel or 2 pieces of sweet and sour pork and 2 salted egg fried prawns in Tunglok Peking Duck in 3 separate meals. And finally my RA knee came back in full force last night to 3 times the size again before bed and still aching now. Matched many things Dr Eric Berg @drericberg said to do and not to do. Lanaiyah was diagnosed with stage 4 Nephroblastoma (Wilms Tumor), a type of kidney cancer, on November 9th, 2020 One year prior to her cancer diagnosis, this sweet girl was also diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. T1 diabetes was already hard on her and her family and it's a lifelong illness that cannot be cured. Lanaiyah had finished radiation therapy and is halfway through her chemotherapy treatments. The pain is even more intense then I thought it would be but the drain is out and dressings are on They have found a few issues with my heart as I have a VSD so they need to do things like, echo, ecg, chest X - ray and many more tests. The pain meds they have given me don't help with the pain they just make me sick and go lala, makes for an interesting conversation however - when I can actually speak. I saw my munchkins briefly, youngest was a little terrified and that broke me a little. Officially got the news today! My scan from last week showed "no evidence of tissue in the thyroid bed or any metastatic disease" ... meaning my scan was negative and I AM CANCER FREE!
