A Little hold on my fitness journey… On February 14th, I was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer & today I got a total thyroidectomy. Thankfully thyroid cancer is easy to treat, and once it’s removed, I should be good to go! This thing has been causing problems since 4th grade, so I’m happy it’s out 1.5-2 weeks of light movement at the gym, so if you see me crying with 5 lbs dumbbells, no you didn’t 😭
Any of these sound familiar? 🙋🏻♀️ These symptoms are our body trying to tell us something is out of whack! For years, I thought my fatigue and exhaustion were normal because I was BUSY. I though my depression and anxiety were just a part of becoming an adult in this day and age 🤷🏻♀️ I couldn’t tell how irregular my period was because I had been put on birth control at the first sign of trouble (age 15) for five years! I had NO IDEA what was going on in my body…because we’re taught not to listen to our bodies. I experienced HYPO (under-active) thyroid symptoms which only got worse after my whole thyroid was removed at 18 due to cancer (duh, no thyroid= under active thyroid to say the least). I was put on synthroid to replace what was cut out of me, but it’s NOT the full solution! 🙅🏻♀️ our bodies need full nutritional support, movement, sunlight, toxin removal, and nervous system regulation (none of which I was told about at the time of my cancer diagnosis). I can’t always prevent the triggers from happening when it comes to cancer, however I do have a choice how I am going to respond. Will I use what I have learned to cope with them or let cancer win in this moment? It’s near impossible to never be triggered by cancer again. But there’s a choice you can make when those triggers happen. It’s how you choose to respond. What action or thought will you respond with? When the worrying thoughts of “what if” come into your head; are you going to let it come over you? Stop you from doing what you want? Let the worry of recurrence, cancer still win? You have a choice on what your next thought or action will be. I know that I didn’t want that to happen to me. I wasn’t going to let cancer continue to dictate my life. How I felt or thought. When you pause for even a second before just reacting, you are taking your power back from the trigger itself. There’s more choice in how you act and think than you realize. I could have chosen to let my cancer journey win and I wouldn’t be here. 2 YEAR RAI ANNIVERSARY ☢️🦋 ✨️ it has officially been 2 years since i had radioactive iodine therapy! i still remember it all so vividly! i remember going into hospital and the nurses taking the bright yellow tablet out of its lead lined container and giving it to me, i remember drinking so much water that i peed 8 times in one day so i could go home as quick as possible, & i remember how lonely it felt isolating in the silent & empty hospital floor. i wanted to repost this drawing of mine as thycan has well and truly changed my life. i am super grateful to still be cancer free but it's important for those who haven't gone through thycan to remember that it's not as simple as beating the "good cancer" as it still impacts you for the rest of your life! so if your loved one is still struggling despite being cancer free, this may be their new normal, and you should support them with making new routines to make them feel as best as possible without making them feeling guilty about their post-cancer symptoms. i still struggle with salivary gland dysfunction, fatigue, nausea, heartburn, scanxiety, thyroxine management and more, all stemming from thycan and RAI specifically. i am still learning everyday how i can manage it all better, and while it is overwhelming at times i hope i can come up with a routine that can help me live my most fulfilled life! if you're going through RAI or post-cancer symptoms, know that it does get better, and i'm here to support you with what i've experienced 🦋💖 #thyroidcancer #thycan

Have you ever felt like your life was completely on hold? That you are stuck in limbo? That’s how I feel at the moment. Like, although I am living my life, things are stuck. I don’t know if I am coming or going. Frightened for my next treatment, frightened of this illness coming back, frightened of the future. It’s all such a huge mess. Before October my life was absolutely fine. Well I mean as much as it can be. I was lucky as hell. I had a beautiful family, lovely home and great friends. Since then, life has been a rollercoaster. Not just physically for my health but other things too. My whole world has basically come crashing down and I don’t know what to do with it. I am strong, I can manage. But, sometimes I feel why should I? It’s a strange one isn’t it, to feel bitter but also feel lucky that your still alive and your treatment has been fairly straightforward. I don’t wish anyone to go on the cancer journey. I don’t wish anyone to feel like their world had crumbled. But for those who do and have, it does get better. As my doctors searched my body, and were trying to find what was wrong, they found I had a hypertrophic adrenal gland. This was the first thing they tested. All of my adrenal hormones were exceptionally low. I had low testosterone, low cortisol, and I had low aldosterone. Over 3 years time, they found that I had a lot of polyps, a fibroid, Barrett’s esophagus, breast dysplasia, a lung nodule, and a sinus cyst - but they didn’t know what was causing it all. That’s when my endocrinologist did a carotid artery ultrasound, and that’s when they found my thyroid cancer. Thyroid effects everything. I was sleeping 14-16 hours a day, at that point. I was hot and cold, and I was loosing weight. These are all symptoms Kevin has had. My heart rate was hitting 180, and I had severe #orthostatichypotension - now, everything is back to normal. I still have Barrett’s, but it’s stable now. My adrenals normal, my lung nodule is gone. My polyps and breast dysplasia are gone. I may not be 100% better, but I’m thankful they found the problem because it gave me the chance to do something about it. I didn’t show any lymph node involvement, and I still don’t. #thyroidcancer #thyroid #timematters

It’s that my post operation appointment is on the 9th and I’ve decided to receive my news at that time. My insides are in a lab somewhere. For a few days I was in no pain at all. Feeling almost normal until today. My incision glue has fallen off and one of them is draining constantly. We’re hoping this is normal but I’ve been in contact with my doctors about it. I’m starting to feel pretty weak and the cramping is getting worse. It’s a good sign though, I know my body is healing. Emotionally, I’ve been ok. It’s said that by losing the ability to carry a child can bring a lot of depression to a woman, but so far so good. I’m constantly living in the middle of joy and pain because my health is a never-ending fight. I spoke all over the country in 2023, but unfortunately a tumor (and my obedience to the Lord) made me cancel everything in 2024 as I focus on family and health. We’ll be homeschooling and homesteading this fall! • Wes is our oldest, high energy, and he loves all things sports, his room clean, reading, and any kind of challenge. He’s such a strong leader full of courage and fun! 🙌🏼 • Reid is our builder, smarty pants, our quiet one, and our tender kid. He is so content in life! Sometimes I sneak away with him and we take a break from the chaos ☺️ • Nate is our bundle of joy and giggles and spunk and competition and kindness. He sees everyone’s needs and helps everyone he meets, no matter the age. 🥹❤️ • Maddie, our miracle baby girl after a miscarriage and cancer. She is our sweet and spicy child, very attached to momma, and obsessed with all animals and flowers and art. 🐥🐶🌸🌻 We’re a Christian family who have walked through our share of pain but have also had a lot of joys.
