I am so grateful for medical technology. Sometimes it works so well that I forget how much harder managing type one diabetes is without it. When it fails, especially in the middle of the night, I’m reminded of this burden my child carries and how heavy it can be for all of us to carry with her. This is our second @dexcom G7 to fail in less than a week. Of course it had to happen at midnight. We just had a sporadic failure on Tuesday. It’s FRIDAY! Both were only on for a few days. WTF. 🤬 This is our last G7 until the replacement from Tuesday arrives. Thankfully the Omnipod 5 that works with the G7, also works with G6. So if this one fails we can still use our pump in automated but with a G6. Which doesn’t make sense we are on the limited market release for the G7 / Omnipod 5 integration. I’m seriously over these random sensor failures. I wanted to write to let you know that I understand. I understand the ache that comes when you look back at old photos and see a version of yourself that feels like a distant memory. The tears that flow as you remember a time before Type 1 became a part of your daily reality. It’s okay to feel that grief, to mourn for the days when life felt simpler and lighter. When beach trips didn’t involve checking blood sugar levels or worrying about insulin pumps. When a birthday cake was just a delicious treat, not a calculation of carbs and insulin doses. Sometimes it feels like we’re mourning not just the past, but the freedom we didn’t even realize we had until it was taken away. Those days when leaving the house didn’t require a checklist of supplies, or when ordering food didn’t come with the constant fear of a high or low. Grief doesn’t have a timeline, it comes in waves and catches us off guard when we least expect it. But please know, you’re not alone in this. There are others who understand and empathize with your journey. So as you navigate these waves of grief, remember to be kind to yourself. Allow yourself to feel whatever emotions arise, and know that there’s a community of support here for you.

Today was a terrible day for me, the frequent low blood sugar made me tired، My child loves to run and loves to play football. I cannot prevent him, but his blood sugar goes down when I ask him to sit down to have his blood sugar corrected. He refuses to do so, and he also does not want to drink juice or anything that might raise his blood sugar. 02 Shotover Moonlight Marathon This was the second of my ten ultras in ten years. The shortest but hardest of the nine so far. Brutal and beautiful course thanks to amazing race director Adrian Bailey. At 42km it's not technically an ultra but deserves to be. This mountain marathon near Queenstown is stunning and crushing. We climbed 2,400m along some steep trails, river crossings and nerve-jangling descents. I remember sheep trails barely wide enough for my foot to land safely. This race taught me to adapt when things don’t go your way. Which they often don’t when you live with type 1. TODAY DREKI MADE US PROUDER THAN EVER. 💙 AT 6 MONTHS OLD, HE HAD HIS FIRST HOSPITAL VISIT WITH MY YOUNGEST DAUGHTER AS HE IS ALSO, HER TYPE 1 DIABETIC ALERT DOG IN TRAINING. 🐕 HE WAS PERFECT. NO MESSING AROUND, WALKING BEAUTIFULLY, IGNORING EVERYONE ELSE, LISTENING TO AND WATCHING NANCY AND THEN JUST CHILLED OUT AND FELL ASLEEP ON THE FLOOR WHEN SHE WAS IN WITH HER TEAM. HIS TEMPERAMENT IS FANTASTIC. SO EVENLY BALANCED FOR SUCH A YOUNG DOG BETWEEN SPORT AND SERVICE. THAT FOUNDATION CAME FROM A WELL MATCHED PAIRING BETWEEN HIS PARENTS, AND LOTS OF WORK SINCE HE CAME HOME WITH US TO MAKE SURE HE IS ABLE TO COPE AND FOCUS NO MATTER WHERE HE IS. Finding training hard? I don’t even like running. It’s not a secret anymore. I find the act of running boring. Especially training. This surprises people when they hear how far I run in races, or in training. I run races that are 100km or longer because I love the output – the adventure, the challenge, the physical and mental fitness it leaves behind. If you have followed our page a while, you probably know that Myles eats a low carb/high protein diet for steadier blood sugars. We have been dealing with blood sugar chaos trying to dial back in his insulin needs ever since his last tummy bug over a month ago! It’s been a struggle and honestly I feel more angry at T1D than I have in a long time. I’m frustrated and upset that I haven’t done a great job managing his blood sugar and that I am failing so miserably getting things dialed back in. But back to his eating style and tonight’s dinner…. Taking tons of carbs and large boluses of insulin out of the equation at least takes some of the stress off the situation and leaves one less factor to be considered as I work to dial insulin levels and needs back in. I get messages from complete strangers asking about my relationship, asking when I'll get married & asking why I haven't got children yet as I'm 'getting on'. It's annoying & to be honest, it's downright rude. ..... What business is it of other people? Why do they feel the need to comment on my life? I'm HAPPY and honestly, that's all that really matters. .... If you're going to ask an old friend a question or worse yet, someone you don't even know; let your first question be "HOW ARE YOU" or ask if they're happy or living their best life? Ask them if they're ok? You might be the first person to check in with them! To all my ladies (and men) who feel behind in life ... trust me YOU ARE NOT! Although it might feel like everyone around you is getting married, having kids or growing up ... it's just your focus.
