Weekly Weigh-In! Staying the same this week and that is absolutely fine! I’ve not been on it 100% this week, but again, this is okay. No one is ever expected to be “on it” all the time and I’m glad that I’m realising that this is okay and normal rather than beating myself up about it like I would in the past. No weigh days for two weeks now as I’m off on holiday and I intend to enjoy it!😎☀️
It’s now been 6 months since starting Omnipod 5, and it’s a total game changer. The progress may not seem much but it’s a step in the right direction • I know A1C is not the most ideal record of diabetes control, but in this case it’s the simplest way to show my progression over the years. • Looking at the second image makes me feel a little sick, just how little control I had for a time, and I’m very lucky I don’t have any long term side effects… yet. • Since being on the new pump my time in range has been approx 80%+ 🤩 the control can be infuriating as the nature of a closed loop is you need to run slightly higher than normal for safety but mine is still reasonable tight between 5-8 • Whilst it can be frustrating at times, especially when the Dexcom sensor drops out, or Pods leak, but it has improved my quality of life so much, especially running around spinning many plates with work and the girls. • Diabetes full review (first since having Florence!) on Tuesday, so it will be interesting to see the teams views and my next steps • #diabetes #diabetic #t1d #typeonediabetes #diabetesuk #omnipod #diabeticmum #typeone #typeonemum #mum #toddler @dexcom @omnipoduk
Struggling with our Libre CGM during beach trips was always a bummer; always falling off... until now! Thanks to a dear friend who shared a game-changing tip with us. Kinesiology tape for the win! I simply put the it over the sensor, cutting a hole in the middle to uncover the center (recommended by Abbot) and it stays still for 14 days!! Now, whether we’re diving into the waves or building sandcastles, our sensor stays put. And once; She is out of the water, Just a quick cover of the middle opening keeps those pesky sand particles away. pretty good BG’s for my flight to florida a couple weeks back! ✈️ first pic is leading into the flight and second pic is after the flight! my blood sugar often stays on the higher side while flying. i generally attribute it to eating crappy airport food and then staying sedentary for so long on the flight. this time was pretty good, though! we went to sarasota, florida for a wedding and then we spent a few days down in cancún, mexico! 🌴☀️

Some days I look at all the gadgets attached to me and the things I have to use every day to stay alive, I think about all the math and calculations I subconsciously make bc it's now just a natural thought process for me, and on those days it can get really hard. All good things come to an end. ❤️🥹 As a life long San Diegan I wanted to stay here forever but as a military spouse I knew that wasn’t likely. We’ve managed to raise our kids here for a long time but it’s time for a new chapter and it’s so bittersweet! We are excited for the new adventure in Texas while also sad to leave our family and friends. On top of the feels over leaving where most of us are from, there’s the unknowns about Emmy’s new care team for her type 1 and celiac disease. I am hoping and praying for an endo as amazing as the one we’ve had here. I’m also hoping our traveling and hotel stays during the trip out there go smoothly (in all aspects but definitely in the diabetes department too). Emmy’s dad and I will be in 2 separate cars (me being with Emmy and her oldest brother since he is an amazing help with it all while I’m driving) 😊. Going to leave over prepared and hope for the best. 🤞If we can fly to Canada we can drive to a Texas. At least that’s what I’m telling myself. 😆 I’m also hoping her new Mobi pump helps us out! We will hopefully have an update on that this coming up weekend after our training. So exciting! Lots of changes for us but we’re taking it all day by day. Our trip to Florida last weekend, in food pictures 🙃 swipe to the end for my favorite meal Traveling with diabetes is not for the faint of heart. For me, it often means unfamiliar foods/restaurants, and a lot of “guessing” when it comes to my insulin. A few things that helped me this trip: ✨Remembering I have more tools in my toolbox than I think when it comes to carb counting. Even if it was a new restaurant, there was typically something similar I’ve had in the past that I could compare it to to help carb count and dose my insulin ✨Have some patience for the highs. This is not my strongest skill at home but especially when traveling I try to remember that it’s normal to see some hills (or mountains lol) on my Dexcom chart. All I can do is my best, which means keep an eye on it, and take more insulin and drink water if it’s not coming down. I also usually walk a lot on vacation and I know this helps if I’m feeling up to it ✨Try the food. When you’re in a new place or somewhere you don’t often go, there is no need to restrict yourself. It’s okay to eat more carbs than you “normally do” ✨Eat something familiar for one meal a day. This isn’t always possible, but for example one breakfast restaurant we went to had a whole menu of deliciousness that happened to include an omelette that looked incredible. I knew the rest of the day would be carb filled (and that I’d be having my favorite french toast later in the weekend) and so I opted for an omelette - one that sounded delicious and that I knew I could nail the bolus for to help lead to a more steady morning. If you’re like me, I like an occasional beer and a treat, here’s how to keep your blood sugar in check when you have T1D over the bank hol! 1. Plan Ahead: Enjoy your favourite treats by planning your meals and insulin doses around the party schedule. I’m having a night out with family, we’re going for a curry & a pint, so I filled out MFP to get my carb count ahead of time just in case signal isn’t great latter, it might not be 100% accurate but it’s easier to adjust on the fly than count from scratch. 2. Stay Active: Balance out the indulgence with fun activities. A walk in the park or a casual dance-off can do wonders, although you won’t catch me on dance floor 🕺🏻. 3. Hydrate: Keep the water flowing to help manage blood sugar levels and stay energized. Remember, diabetes doesn’t have to dampen your bank holiday. The thing is without insulin we die. That’s the reality behind it. Sometimes your brain can spiral out of control. People make comments like what if lost all power. Well my insulin will go bad….. can’t use my pump… depends on how long my insulin will stay good! If not I could easily die because everyone lost power. When my children were born, the emotional rollercoaster felt much like the one with diabetes. Initially, it was as if I'd been hit with a brick, realizing that this would be my life, filled with worries, sleeplessness, and exhaustion. However, after the initial shock, I accepted that this rollercoaster was far more normal than the diabetic one. It was okay to feel tired because, in the end, being a mother is such a blessing, and the love I receive from these little ones makes it all worthwhile.
