What works for me is looking longer-term and this chart is amazing for spotting low trends. For me, I think I’m doing too much insulin for my evening meal which gives me hypos late evening and sometimes in the night. Would be even more useful is to have the same chart but for high glucose events, these causes a lot of damage. Yesterday night not so good!! Have been decorating the kitchen so we got fish n chips…. Carbs not good for my night times sometimes Fast acting seems fine initially but during the night i have elevated levels sometimes. I didn’t expect this last night as i also did spin at 6:30pm so hoped that would suppress levels during night. Previously I dosed higher and then had night time hypos. Difficult to find the answer. Fewer chips I suppose. After everybody got a rest, it was time for the t-ball game Myles had zero interest in playing. He had intentions of showing Double & Miss Maggie his “super speed” but quickly decided he did not care about the game. I didn’t push him to play, because he’s been dealing with repetitive low blood sugar all day and suffered another pretty significant low while at the game. It was amazing to watch Double learn to be comfortable and at ease in a brand new and chaotic environment under the guidance of his trainer. If Myles decides he wants to play t-ball again, a DAD will be so helpful bc at this ball field, we get very minimal cell service. This means I’m not getting his blood sugar readings or alerts while he’s doing an activity that makes his blood sugar drop quickly. One week ✨Post-Partum✨ One week ago Tuesday, I had my sweet baby girl. It’s also been such an emotional, mental & physical ride. On the T1D side of things, everything is going really smooth. It’s crazy how right after birth, diabetes goes right back to normal. My one week TIR is currently 82% and I couldn’t be happier. I’m currently using my pregnancy insulin profile with just slight adjustments. My breast milk hasn’t fully come in yet, so I’m not breastfeeding/pumping at this time. So I don’t have to worry about breastfeeding & my T1D yet, as I’m well aware blood sugars can drop and my insulin needs may change during that time. I’ll cross that bridge once I get to it, but my plan is to full-time breastfeed and pump. During my induction and c-section experience I was able to manage my own diabetes care. I saw two endos during my time in the hospital, and due to my “control”, I was able to manage it with my pump & cgm, as compared to being on an insulin drip (the hospital uses R insulin btw). I was extremely happy that worked out for me! As I was having my c-section surgery, my blood sugars coasted between 80-95. Mikey was watching my blood sugars during my entire surgery. My whole c-section birthing experience has been mentally, physically and emotionally exhausting? I can’t think of the exact word but I feel like I haven’t really had time to recover and process everything fully yet. But I’m healing great, no issues or complications! Just a tiny bit sore-ish, but even that’s now subsiding. More on this topic later. My first week as a new mom has been so incredible. My sweet Ava is just the light of my life and she’s just the sweetest baby! She’s so chill and I’m just so lucky to be her mom. I felt like I’ve waited my entire life for her. Mikey is just so sweet with her and adores her so much. We are truly blessed.
#t1dthursday 💙Our #t1dsquad at school has been on point this week! 🙌🏼 💙Getting level glucose lines like this requires CONSTANT monitoring and communication. 💙We are so grateful our school allows such an open communication for mom, Brie’s aide and nurse to text/call directly. 💙This 6 hour timeline each day probably had at least 8-10 decisions that needed to be made per hour…how much insulin on board?…Is gym coming up?…Is she hungry and wants a snack?…Is she getting low?…Is it too close to lunch so should we dose insulin or choose a lower carb snack? Those are just a few examples of how every little detail of every day can impact her glucose. 💙So if you see a T1D person or a T1D caregiver team, buy them a coffee 😆…I guarantee you they’re mentally and physically exhausted and we could always use a little caffeine ☕️ 💙All kidding aside, we need to laugh about things (or we would prob cry), we have the best #t1dsquad and are forever grateful! #iykyk #t1dawareness #brieandt1d #t1dlookslikeme #t1dsquad

Diabetes Complications: Since my diabetes diagnosis 42 years ago, I’ve faced Diabetic Retinopathy and Frozen Shoulder. Autoimmune diseases keep us on our toes, but with faith and perseverance, and this community we can keep going. Recently, I’ve been tackling a stubborn skin rash, I advocated with my doctor for answers with biopsies and the ANA test. It looks for antinuclear antibodies (ANA) in your blood, which could signal an autoimmune response, an answer to the cause of the ongoing skin rash. While Lupus is suspected, confirmation awaits the results of the biopsy and lab test. Today I wanted to tell you a bit about my own journey with fitness and type one diabetes... When I was first diagnosed, I’d lost a lot of weight like we all do…but I wouldn’t say I was a ‘healthy weight’ even before that. Swipe for a pic of me before I got into fitness ➡️ I had no energy, life was a really battle mental & physically, food was my enemy and felt so lost. This is when I decided to start training & literally found a whole new life (swipe again!). I regained all my lost weight & built muscle like never before. Energy levels were so much higher, I took on crazy challenges just for fun - something I’d never done before! If you also have T1D and you’re not strength training or focusing on your nutrition, I can’t express HOW much this has changed the game for me... I share most of this usually on London’s page but also wanted to add it to my personal account after my recent Celiac diagnosis. London and I both have celiac disease. She was diagnosed based on symptoms and has both genes associated with a higher risk of celiac. I was recently diagnosed and like London also have both of the genes for celiac. London had a higher chance of developing celiac because people with Type 1 Diabetes are more likely to develop celiac than someone without T1D. If you have a first degree relative with celiac then your chances of developing it jump up to 15%. Like t1d I knew very little about Celiac until London was diagnosed. It’s definitely not as simple as “just don’t eat gluten”. Gluten is in so many things. You have to avoid cross contamination at restaurants, social events, etc. Beauty products, makeup, etc can contain gluten. Avoiding all gluten isn’t because someone is being difficult or picky. It’s severe in that accidental ingestion of gluten causes a severe reaction/illness AND long term damage to your intestines and other body systems. It’s a scary, serious disease with severe consequences. 13 years ago today, I was admitted into the hospital after being sent home from the ER w/ a misdiagnosis of gestational diabetes. My BG was over 700 and I was considered legally blind. I was 6 months pregnant w/ Reagan. 19 yrs old and literally scared to death of needles. They kept saying it would go away…but it never did. 13 years ago, I was so thirsty, I would drink gallons of water and was literally living in the bathroom. But because of my bg levels I was still dehydrated. So much so, I was poked 12 times to try and get an IV in. To this day I still hold my breathe… 13 years ago, I experienced my first low blood sugar from the insulin, pretty sure I thought I was having a heart attack & dying. Alone. No one prepared me or told me what to expect. I had no idea what was happening to Reagan. 13 years ago, my whole life flipped upside down but alas, here we are. Reagan and I, figuring it out. She’s been with me from the start and a lot of great things have happened in our lives because/in spite of T1D. I know it’s made us both a heck of a lot stronger. HIDDEN DISABILITY 🌻 💉 I ordered this medical ID lanyard with my emergency contact details, details of my disability and photo ID a couple of weeks ago from @sunflowerlanyardscheme I take it with me, in my bag everywhere I go now in case I ever get into a situation where I'm on my own /on my own with the kids and something happens. It's a scary thought- best not to take any chances. While many non diabetics assume, diabetes is caused by 'eating rubbish and being obese', diabetes- Type 1 in particular - is a chronic autoimmune disease. It can not be prevented and is not caused in any way, by leading an unhealthy lifestyle. There is nothing that anyone can do to prevent Type 1. Like many other autoimmune conditions, Type 1 requires 24/7 attention and care.
