Trama dal web: "Il comandante di Auschwitz Rudolf Höß e sua moglie Hedwig realizzarono il loro sogno di una vita con una famiglia numerosa, una casa e un grande giardino in un terreno direttamente adiacente al muro del campo." Se c'è una cosa che ho sempre pensato dell'olocausto, che è stato uno sterminio in modo industriale, infatti Rudolf sembra un dirigente di una fabbrica, che ha la sua famiglia tipica ariana e la sua bella villetta proprio al confine della sua industria, solo che invece di produrre elettrodomestici o qualsiasi altro oggetto, produce morte e il malvagio annientamento di un popolo. La vita per la moglie e i quattro figli di Rudolf procede tranquilla e spensierata, un bel giardino con piscina, solo qualche terrificante urlo e dei rumori sinistri si sento al di la del muro, ma poco importa l'importante è avere un giardino rigoglioso, la casa in ordine e dei figli sani. Film agghiacciante e mi ha fatto pensare a quale può essere il mio muro che non mi fa vedere l'orrore, speriamo sempre che mostruosità del genere non avvengano più, ma purtroppo non è così. #ZoneofInterest

I remember hearing @heathermorrisauthor speak on NPR about her novel, TATTOOIST OF AUSCHWITZ, shortly after it was published. I was so moved by the story, but also felt I was too emotionally fragile at that moment to pick up the book. Years passed, and after my husband and I watched the outstanding Oscar-winning movie, ZONE OF INTEREST, I knew it was I was in a place to experience the story. (This movie is A MUST. The use of sound has never been more foreboding and frightening.) Haunting, sobering, unimaginable and inspiring, I was in awe of THE TATTOOIST OF AUSCHWITZ, based on a true experience of Lali Sokolov who manifested his survival— and found love— by relying on his intellect, humanity and endless optimism. @tamsbookcoaching shared that the book was adopted into a series— now streaming on Peacock. I cannot wait to watch it! Last week I unexpectedly had the good fortune to chaperone a field trip to the @auschwitzexhibition thanks to @cbolkap. Reading Holocaust books like THE TATTOOIST OF AUSCHWITZ, both enhanced and deepened my experience at the exhibit. When I saw a prisoner’s striped clothes, how could I not think of Lali and his experience? This is what I love about reading. Και το κάνει με έναν τρόπο, που αν κάποιος δεν ξέρει ποιος ήταν ο Ες, δύσκολα μπορεί να ταυτίσει αυτόν τον σύζυγο και στοργικό πατέρα με τον αρχιτέκτονα της φρίκης του Χίτλερ. ⛔ Tenhle film je od pohledu i od poslechu jiný. Takový nějaký… nefilmový. Jako zvláštní okno do minulosti, která působí nestrojeně, až všedně. Žádné tklivé soundtracky, zoomy na obličeje herců ve vyhrocených situacích. Sledujeme běžný život rodiny, která se očividně má dobře. Žijí v komfortu, řeší všední věci – oblečení, šminky, drby, kariérní postup, děti nebo zahradu. Až na to, že všechny tyhle věci řeší pár metrů od zdí osvětimského lágru, kde byl bezpočet lidí donucen opustit své všední starosti a čelit nevýslovným hrůzám. ⛔ Do prostoru vily a pěstěné zahrady sem tam dolehnou zvuky, které silně ilustrují to, co se děje kousek od nás. Za mě je to skvělý způsob, jak v dnešní době natočit film o holocaustu, aniž by člověk dubloval nebo recykloval tu spoustu filmů, které už na toto téma vznikly. Vzhledem k tomu, že většina lidí v naší západní civilizaci (a zvláště v Evropě) má hodně informací o tom, co se ve 40. letech dělo, nepotřebujeme to znovu vidět explicitně na plátně/obrazovce. Naše vlastní fantazie podpořená zvukem a tísnivou atmosférou může být mnohem mocnější – a u mě tedy byla. ⛔ Tenhle film má zvláštní tempo, rytmus i atmosféru. Je z něj cítit, že byl i natáčen odlišně, než je běžné (aspoň mi to tak zpětně připadá, když jsem narazila na rozhovor s tvůrci a zpětně si vybavuju svůj divácký dojem). Herci nehráli pro klasickou kameru a nebyli obklopeni štábem. Ani chvíli mě ale film nenudil, protože když se poddáte té jinakosti a nesoustředíte se na ni, čeká vás s odměna v podobě jedinečného zážitku. Spousta lidí v reakcích na film zmiňuje, že podobný film ještě neviděli. Určitě se přimlouvám za to, abyste dali filmu šanci, pokud jste z nějakých důvodů váhali. Minimálně proto, že je vždy zajímavé zkusit si jako divák něco, co není úplně obvyklé a pracuje s filmem jinak. Ve výsledku film explicitně neformuluje žádné otázky, ale nechává je před námi ležet a podle mě je nelze ignorovat. Snad se k nim budu moct někdy vrátit. “THE ZONE OF INTEREST”: 92% (@rottentomatoes : 93%) 📖: History / Drama 📺: Prime Video I know I’m a bit late to the game here. Finally got around to watching @zoneofinterest and it didn’t miss. Highly atmospheric, you have to imagine being there to believe it. This isn’t a movie that jumps off the screen — rather, you really have to envision yourself in that setting in order to receive the full effect. The dissonance is what’s so haunting about this. The lushness of the Auschwitz commandant’s home sits in juxtaposition to the horrors occurring beyond the wall. And again, we never see anything beyond the wall but we can hear, and more importantly, feel what’s going on. As viewers were there to observe the mundanity and I love how the cinematography allows us to perfectly do that. We see every inch of the house, the garden, and all the joyful nothingness that this family seems to do. It’s quite chilling as it stands in comparison. Pacing was slow, and technically not a lot happened. I think this was the biggest struggle as just a viewer, but artistically the choice was made to again, show the simple lives of the commandant’s family, and how little they had to worry about. #newreleases #zoneofinterest #moviereviews #oscars #amazonprime #primevideo

In collaboration with Warwick History’s “History on Film” series, our showing of THE ZONE OF INTEREST will be preceded by a talk from Paola Medina-Gonzalez in FAB2.43 at 5:15pm on FRIDAY 26TH APRIL. Paola is a historian of Modern Germany who specialises on the Third Reich and masculinity. Their dissertation, “Boas in Arms: Masculinity, Photography, and the Wehrmacht” looks into amateur martial photography during the World Wars in which soldiers engaged in stage performance and cross-dressing. "¿Otra película sobre la #2GM? ¿De verdad era necesaria? ¡Todos ya sabemos cómo termina eso, ya pasen de página!", estos son algunos de los comentarios que llegué a leer en redes sociales cuando recién empezó la comunicación sobre #LaZonaDeInterés previo a su estreno en México y en medio de su proceso de nominación al #Oscar. Y no lo voy a negar: en parte yo también llegué a pensar cosas similares. 🫠 Pero cuando me di el chance de verla hace un par de meses descubrí que su intención no pudo estar más lejos a la de mostrar otra cara del conflicto bélico, ya que este hecho solo lo utiliza para hacer una reflexión sobre algo más profundo: la normalización de la violencia y la romantización de un porvenir perfecto logrado mediante la misma. 😱 #JonathanGlazer nos conduce al interior de la vida de un militar nazi de alto rango y de su familia, quienes gozan de una existencia acomodada en una casa situada en el centro de un campo de concentración. Así, la historia genera un contraste entre la pesadilla que resultó este momento histórico para la humanidad lo idílico que una minoría llegó a disfrutar a costa de otros. 🤯 Un punto muy a favor del largometraje es que no necesitó ser gráficamente explícito para crear un ambiente de impacto: se bastó de detalles sonoros y visuales para crear una atmósfera tan dulce y asfixiante como una manzana envenenada. Es una película incómoda y embriagadora a partes iguales, lo que puede generar mucha discordancia en el espectador en más de una ocasión. 👏 Eso sí: si eres muy fan de las películas bélicas con un montón de explosiones y melodrama, es muy probable que no le encuentres sentido a esta producción. Pero, aún así, te recomiendo que le des una oportunidad y la veas con la mente muy abierta y los sentidos alerta.
