Thank you friends who contributed couple months ago for the kitchen in Nepalese mountain villages I’ve been fundraising for along with @maitri_poland (a charity organization I’ve been involved with for almost 30 years now!). We collected almost $5,000 and I just received a very detailed report on the expenses, but nothing speaks more than these photos and videos of children enjoying a daily meal (the only meal for most) at school. Permanent kitchen area, more sanitary conditions, nutritious ingredients and consistency thanks to our donations! Education and nutrition is the only way for these kids to be able to provide for themselves and their families later on. You might believe that after reading about the newborn baby born the week before Love Without Reason's cleft camp in Bihar, India. The Duncan Hospital's pediatric team reached out to us on the second day of the cleft camp. They had just admitted a newborn baby who was having trouble feeding. Little #latergram from this past weekend. #darkmom dinner vs #kiddinner Columbia River Chinook King collar, cabbage slaw with toasted walnuts, pickled baby carrots (it’s all I had, ok?), rice, lemon. For #tinysous, I made a sort of salmon “salad” with shredded fish, mayo, & soy, and packed it in some rice molds (that I got for a couple bucks from #uwajimaya). Homemade #furikake on top. It’s cheaper and easier to buy it, but most store bought stuff has sugar and while I don’t hate sugar, I don’t want it on my rice. Very pleased with the whole business. Kiddo loved it. Definitely was up at 6am the next morning replicating the salmon & rice cakes for her lunch. 9/10 (she did not enjoy the cabbage but you can’t win them all). GOT MILK? God is SO GOOD! Today, we received three dairy cows which will provide the our new feeding center with milk to help feed the 24 malnourished children we are currently supporting. These three cows will even produce enough milk for us to sell to the local community to help offset some of our expenses for the feeding center. We also completed a hand dug well on the farm to irrigate our crops, which will help us through the dryer seasons here in Uganda. Would you please continue to pray with us for God's provision as we continue to fundraise for the feeding center and the needs of the children and families here in Naluko, Uganda. Every week of the school year, the wonderful congregants at Winters Chapel United Methodist Church pack weekend meal bags for Hightower Elementary School students in need. Backpack Buddies relies on “Community Buddies” like Winters Chapel UMC to pack and distribute the food it sources. It’s an efficient system that enables as many children as possible to get the nourishment they need over the weekend, so that they return to school on Monday nourished and ready to learn. Today was busy! During my lunch break, I attended a Zoom call with the Diabetes Patient Advocacy Coalition to prep for May’s Capitol Hill event. After work, I collected some clothing for the men’s clothing drive I’m hosting for the Possibility Shop, then headed to my Meal in a Mug program and had a packed house with our chicken cheesesteak hoagies! The kids gave it a 10/10. This wrapped up our school year program and we are prepping for the summer program with using air fryers with fun and healthy recipe ideas for the kiddos! I even had a surprise guest from my hubby and he helped clean up.
