Today I would normally celebrate another week pregnant, where we reached 37 weeks, instead we celebrate 6 days of you being Earth-side. Nothing prepares you to leave the hospital without your newborn, and not being with your little girl on Mother’s Day. I’ve got the strongest girls. A fighter, from day one, and today marked a milestone where we finally got to hold you. . 生後27日目 2024.05.14 今日はママも1ヶ月検診 子宮内は新たな出血もなく順調😊 帝王切開の傷口から糸が出ててそこが炎症起こしてたのが 気になってたから先生に相談したら糸を切ってくれて 軟膏も出してくれたからまた2週間後に診察になって 産婦人科は卒業出来なかった😂 酷い炎症でもないから2週間後に卒業出来るといいなぁ🥺 息子くんは🥧が26ml/回にup😊 今日は未熟児網膜症の検査もあるから目薬しなきゃいけなかったけど 意地でも目を開けるかーっ！ておめめぎゅってして拒否してた笑 なんとか1回目の目薬終わって看護師さんが離れた途端 ちらっちらっとおめめ開けてて可愛かった笑 10分後の2回目の目薬の時は触れられただけでおめめぎゅっ！ てしてて分かってるんだなぁと🤔 無事に検査は出来たみたいで良かった☺️ #早産児 #早産児ママ #早産児ママとつながりたい #超早産児 #未熟児 #未熟児ママ #超未熟児 #極低出生体重児 #前置胎盤 #帝王切開 #緊急帝王切開 #nicu #nicubaby #リトルベビー #リトルベビーママ #未熟児網膜症

Here’s Pete at 3 weeks old in the NICU. This was taken on his actual due date. Pete drank milk and nursed really well for the first 24 hours after he was born, and then proved that he needed an NG (nasogastric tube) by day 4 of life. He was too fatigued to drink milk. He was running a marathon every single day. He would breathe 70 breaths per minute and his heart would sputter 170-180 beats per minute in his sleep. (Normal newborn vital signs are respirations 40-60 and heart rate 120-160). Babies use most of their energy eating and breathing. When breathing was too much, Pete just wouldn’t eat (or stay awake or grow). To offer him safe opportunities to practice drinking milk, he was allowed to drink 5 ml of thickened formula by mouth once per shift. The rest of his feed was my breastmilk fortified (mixed with formula) through his NG tube. I was always so happy when he showed interest in feeding, but man were his windows of alertness and interest small. At times, I felt like speech therapy and I were frenemies. I knew the only reason he couldn’t go home was because he couldn’t drink enough milk to be well/gain weight. He had to drink to go home, but they wouldn’t let him! And then I simultaneously knew they were trying to prevent aspiration and to help him create a positive foundation for feeding after his surgery. Sorry for the break, our 15 month old had their second open heart surgery. Therefore, we’ve been a bit preoccupied. Another food option for those staying at Children’s is walking to the adult side to go to their courtyard cafe. It is open from 6a, to 2a. They have a larger variety of foods than the little cafe downstairs at children’s. There is a Mexican stall, Asian stall, grill station, meet and three stall, pizza, pastas, salad bar, and a few other options that rotate. There is also a coffee shop in the cafeteria that serves Starbucks coffee. But they are not open on the weekends. To get there, when you are coming over the sky bridge into children’s, you will see a pathway to the left. Take that, and continue to walk until you see the cafeteria. It is a good walk from children’s, so it takes a bit of time to get there and back, but it’s not a bad walk by any means. I will say, I would not walk there alone at night if you are a woman. It is vandy, so they have security. But it is also downtown Nashville and things can happen. But always just be aware of your surroundings. ✨Brooks’ Boxes of Hope✨ “I Love You To The Moon And Back” book🌙🤍 The third item we have selected for our Brooks’ Boxes of Hope is this Sweet + classic children’s book. One of the ways we were able to bond with Brooks in the NICU included reading to him. We were able to bring our favorite books and read to him during his Care times and although I was not able to hold him while reading to him, it did provide some comfort and a source of bonding for us. Being told you cannot hold your baby is one of the worst things any mother could hear, especially when you are on edge every minute of every day, hoping things will turn around and you’ll get to take your baby home with you. Although it has been almost 6 months since I last pumped breastmilk myself, I will always and forever be a supporter of breastfeeding. Wherever. However. Whenever. Skin-to-skin aka: kangaroo 🦘 care is a vital way to bond with baby after giving birth not just for them, but for you too! There are so many incredible benefits. This is my 5th baby and the FIRST time since becoming a Mama 13 years ago that I was able to do skin-to-skin after my c-section was complete. The hospital I delivered all my babies at didn’t do that. Two of my kids were NICU babies. I wasn’t allowed to hold them for quite a while after they were born and I remember the first time their little bodies were tucked into my shirt after I arrived at the NICU to see them when I was discharged (the closest NICU was over an hour away). I treasured those moments deeply. Having this sweet girl and being surprised with kangaroo care in recovery after surgery was such a gift. You won’t regret that first moment. Blessed & courageously strong like a lion, our sweet Leonard Bennett Garrison arrived safely on Tuesday, May 14th & not a minute later than 5:59pm. While he arrived earlier than expected at 32 weeks, we know God intended for him to be here now and be born for such a time as this! He is doing very well in the NICU and proving his determination to start this life off strong footed. He’s 4lbs 4oz and 17” long! For reference, Oliver was 6lbs 8oz and 21” at full term and we all know how big he is!! My sweet boy is 10 • months old• old 💙 He has 7 teeth with number 8 currently pushing through, tried over 75 foods which he now prefers over bottles, loves his big sister, wants to stand or walk supported - very anti sitting. He doesn’t “crawl” in a typical fashion yet but does more of an army crawl. 💛 Meet siblings Joshua, now 7 (born in 2016 at 38+2, weighing 5lb 15oz) and Isabel, now 5 (born in 2019 also at 38+2, weighing 6lb 10oz), both thriving. Their mum says, "I spent 7 days in NICU in 2016 with Joshua, as he had bilateral pneumothoraces requiring a chest drain and oxygen. I then returned in 2019 with Isabel for 7 days as she also required oxygen and had issues with her bowels too. The staff were incredible both times, and some of the same staff cared for both my babies. One particular staff member will always stand out to me, and I’ll never forget her - Sadie was just the most incredible support during the hardest times. Thank you everyone in NICU for everything."
