#timbuckley Often cited as the ultimate Tim Buckley statement, Goodbye and Hello is indeed a fabulous album, but it's merely one side of Tim Buckley's enormous talent. Recorded in the middle of 1967 (in the afterglow of Sgt. Pepper), this album is clearly inspired by Pepper's exploratory spirit. More often than not, this helps to bring Buckley's awesome musical vision home, but occasionally falters. Not that the album is overrated (it's not), it's just that it is only one side of Buckley. The finest songs on the album were written by him alone, particularly "Once I Was" and "Pleasant Street." Buoyed by Jerry Yester's excellent production, these tracks are easily among the finest example of Buckley's psychedelic/folk vision. A few tracks, namely the title cut and "No Man Can Find the War," were co-written by poet Larry Beckett. While Beckett's lyrics are undoubtedly literate and evocative, they occasionally tend to be too heavy-handed for Buckley. However, this is a minor criticism of an excellent and revolutionary album that was a quantum leap for both Tim Buckley and the audience. #vinyl1960srecords #vinylrecords #vinyldiscoveries

In 1991 he turned up at an all star Tim Buckley tribute concert organized by Hal Willner, and sang a version of his father's Once I Was which stopped the show. Near the end a string broke and he finish the number a capella. Tim Buckley - Song To The Siren. The Monkees. TV Show. 1968. "Song to the Siren" is a song written by Tim Buckley and Larry Beckett, first released by Buckley on his 1970 album Starsailor. It was also later released on Morning Glory: The Tim Buckley Anthology, the album featuring a performance of the song taken from the final episode of The Monkees. The song's reference to the sirens tempting sailors at sea stems from Greek mythology. This lyrical style is an example of Larry Beckett's literary inspirations, and stands in direct contrast to Buckley's own more personal writing style. "Song to the Siren" was written in 1967, but Buckley was dissatisfied with early attempts at recording it. It would finally appear on his album Starsailor three years later. In 1968, Buckley first performed the song solo in its original folk song style as a guest star on the series finale of The Monkees. This stands in contrast to the lusher, reverb-filled version present on the Starsailor album. The Monkees television spot features the song in the key of E major, while the album version is played in B♭ major. The album version also features heavy reverb on the electric guitar and high-pitched background vocals, while on the earlier version Buckley's voice is accompanied only by his twelve-string acoustic guitar. The 1968 performance also features different lyrics, with the line "I am puzzled as the oyster" in the final verse being changed to "I'm as puzzled as the newborn child" in the album version. #timbuckley, Greetings from L.A., 1972. I like the humour of the cover. It features a removable postcard of Los Angeles ...in the smog. The music though is a mixed bag. I think it’s the opener (“Move with Me”) that sets me off on the wrong foot. I find it mildly annoying. I can’t explain why. And there are other tracks where it feels like he’s trying too hard. I prefer the more relaxed Tim. Could it be there are too many musicians here? Is the bass driving things too quickly? Does the organ just create too much “energy”? When it loses some of the frenetic pace it’s better. But there also a lot of different styles at play. I like “Sweet Surrender” but would love if it was just him, a guitar and a bit of upright bass. With a voice like this he doesn’t really need anyone else. The music should be on his own terms.

Double feature after a long day. #goodbyeandhello by #timbuckley is the first album of his I ever bought in #BuenosAires on cd, I know that it is the most commercial, but still the closest to my heart. In the picture a promotional copy from #1967. From beginning to end this record fascinates me. Starsailor, I bought this copy four years ago at #roockyricardos for a fair price for an original press. I had some reissues before but it is a very difficult record to go through, but his most popular song is on this. Anyway, I am talking too much. Recently I bought my first copy of blue afternoon, which I listened to before but I never owned a copy. This is also promotional stuff from back in the days when they were released. #4adrecords and specifically #ivowattsrussell and #thismotalcoil when I was an early teen opened the doors of American rock to my ears. Before I was only interested in British music and the music my friends were making.

I’m usually in love with singer songwriter music from this era, so I’m going to try to remain optimistic with this album. Let’s listen! Songs I already knew: none Favourites: Move With Me First thing’s first. There is far too much talk of licking between toes on this album. It made me feel ill. The music is fine sometimes and a bit dull at others. It’s certainly nothing amazing to my ears. Similarly, the vocals don’t really stand out here, and the aforementioned lyrics turn my stomach.
