Isometrics have helped me successfully rehab my hamstrings and my quad tendon in the past. They also help me manage any flare ups too. 1. Tendons like load. But sometimes training them through a larger range of motion provokes pain or just doesn’t feel good. Isometrics will help to load the tendon in a gentler way. From my own experience, any knee flare ups I have can be well-managed by using isometrics the following day. I’ll almost always be back to normal lifting the day after that without any issues. 2. I like incorporating isometrics into my warmup too. They get the muscles going without tiring them out too much. 3. I’ve used some split squat isometrics with clients who have aggy knees and who struggle to get into a deep SS position. We might start with a hand support if necessary, and only going as low as is tolerable. Over time, that depth can increase as tolerance does. It’s a gentle way to explore new or unfamiliar ranges of motion. When and why do you guys use ISOs?

How do you train for athletic development?… What do you focus on? Strength or Force? Well if you say strength you’re wasting a lot of time 🕰️ Heavy 1RM lifts don’t produce very high forces. Yet sprinting can produce 16x bodyweight during acceleration. Even jogging produces 11x body weight. Yet only a tiny % of individuals can lift 2x bodyweight in a squat. So how can we raise the ceiling of force production? And again I don’t mean 1 rms, back squats and deadlifts. Can we raise the ceiling of an athletes ability to produce & withstand 10, 11, 12x+ bodyweight forces? • Exactly why I think acceleration, isometrics and plyometrics are so powerful to use! Other options i’m exploring more are Depth Drops, Drop Catches and Loaded Jumps/Olympic Lifts. These exercises touch those high peak forces, and constant exposure is going to raise the ceiling of an athletes ability to manipulate and utilize those forces when needed and also withstand those ider 2 forces to mitigate the risk of injury.
