On a surface level, AI might seem like the perfect solution to the challenges of social learning. An AI tutor won't react to your silly question or smirk at your wrong answer. It's tempting to think that AI could create a judgment-free learning environment where every question is safe to ask. But is this really true? In preparation for Cheshire Print Fair on 4 May (details below and in the second swipe), I've been updating the brochure that outlines (nearly) all the series of one-off prints I've done. I've tweaked it to include "Dancing With Ghosts", the newest addition to the collection. This has prompted me to write some pithy blurb: "Dancing With Ghosts" evokes the feeling when memories merge into the present. Part of the code interacts with the image as it develops, simplifying some areas while others remain haunted by complex layers. The series draws on a number of mid-century- modern motifs, combining them with a range of other shapes, hand-made marks and textures. While the palette is mainly greyscale, a nod to old black and white photography, there are flashes of colour, intentionally clouding this reference point. Here's a one-off on A4 paper that will be on show for the first time on Saturday. If you're in Chester, bob into the cathedral and say hello. . Over engineering can kill your product: I will start be defining over engineering, over engineering is to create, design, or build something to be more complicated or perform more actions than is necessary or helpful #Over-engineering a solution is like trying to crack a nut with a sledgehammer - it's a classic case of using brute force when finesse is required. When we over-engineer, we're not just solving the problem at hand, we're trying to anticipate and solve every possible problem that might arise in the future. And that's where things start to go wrong. Alao, #complexity is the enemy of #efficiency, and over-engineering is its best friend. The more intricate the solution, the higher the likelihood of something going wrong. And when it does, good luck trying to debug it! You'll be stuck in a maze of your own making, with no clear exit strategy. #Resources are precious, and over-engineering is a resource hog. It consumes time, money, and personnel, leaving us with a solution that's bloated, expensive, and unsustainable. And let's not forget the opportunity cost - the time and resources we waste on over-engineering could be better spent on other pressing problems. Finally, #agility is key in today's fast-paced world, and over-engineering is its arch-nemesis. When we over-engineer, we're so focused on building the perfect solution that we forget to adapt to changing circumstances. We become mired in our own complexity, unable to pivot or respond to new challenges. And let's not forget the Pareto principle - 80% of the value often comes from 20% of the effort. By over-engineering, we're wasting our time on the marginal gains, rather than focusing on the core #problem. So, let's avoid over-engineering and embrace #simplicity, elegance, and pragmatism. Let's solve the problem at hand, and leave the hypothetical scenarios for another day. Our #solutions should be like a scalpel - precise, #effective, and #efficient, not a sledgehammer - clumsy, excessive, and counterproductive.
