Another recent pick up and a soundtrack I was following for quite a while since the soundtrack included in the day 1 edition just wouldn't play due to a manufacturing error. Which wasn't that much of a deal tbh since the CD was just a modest track selection and not the complete OST. But the main reasons of course are the fact that Strange Journey is one of my fav games of all time, which happens to have one of the most memorable OSTs I've ever experienced. Even when it's not as "meaty" as your average JRPG OST. And while I always enjoyed/appreciated Meguro's soundtracks, and while SMT3 and Devil Summoner's OST are def up there on my list, none of them felt as special/unique as this one. "In contrast to his previous work on the Persona series, Meguro did not use contemporary musical elements. Instead, he created a more mature experience to reflect the game's story and setting. To achieve the desired effect, he used militaristic orchestration, Gregorian choir, and minimalistic ambiance. The choir sounds were created using Eastwest Quantum Leap Symphonic Choirs, a synthesizer which could realistically simulate a choir. An exception was the "Sorrow" theme, for which he primarily used a piano melody. For the game's "chaos" theme, he used musical elements similar to those in Nocturne. So as to get as much music as possible on the game cartridge, Meguro used CRI Middleware's Kyuseishu Sound Streamer compression algorithm." Most NDS fans know exactly how vg composers made wonders with the NDS hardware in terms of sound/music quality, so if you add genius composition to that formula you have one of the most epic/impressive soundtracks of that era. Soundtrack presentation is pretty standard Re-using the og cover (this is the og OST, it does not include Redux's) and a 2 disc (thin) jewel case. 2023/8/15 盆メタル wildside tokyo DAMNATION ALLEY もっとドロドロしたOSDMだと思っていたのですが、グルーヴ感のあるロック感とOSDMみたいな、エントゥームドじゃないんだけど、昨今のNWOSDMでもないんだけど、ダンサブルというのか、スラッシュ感もあるし、カッコいいデス・メタルでした。３人ともボーカルが演れて、それぞれスタイルの違う感じのデス・メタルボーカル。コニーさんがボーカルをとる楽曲も、歌詞のインの踏み方とかカッコいいんだよね。（カール・ウィレッツ的なスタイル？）ベーシストのボーカルスタイルは邪悪ボイス＋ビル・スティアー？の影響を感じました。ドラマーのボーカルは、LGとカールウィレッツ？の影響を感じました。（素人ながらスイマセン）ちょっと、日本には余りスタイルとして少ない感じですが、まさに、激シブ好みのデス・メタルと思います。確認出来て良かった。また観たいですね。激シブのデス・メタル。 #deathmetal #OSDM #DAMNATIONALLEY

Damnation Alley (1977) - Directed by Jack Smight Here's an older classic that, for all its shortcomings, has a lot to offer still. The purple scorpions, killer cockroaches and nuclear sunsets aren't going to win any awards for cutting edge special effects, but damn are they fun. The whole world that's created feels like an old Ray Harryhausen movie you'd watch on a Sunday afternoon. There's also the iconic Landmaster armored vehicle that inspired many cliche battle trucks in the years to come. Sure the characters are pretty boring, but I'm a fan of this movie for its role it played in helping to establish the wasteland genre early on. Сюжет книги важко описати без спойлерів, адже він стає зрозумілим тільки ближче до фіналу. Більшість подій роману відбуваються на Дорозі, такому собі шосе між часом і простором з нескінченною кількістю поворотів в різні часові відтинки, від Крейдяного періоду, Вавилону, античної Греції та аж до майбутнього третього тисячоліття. З Дороги до речі можна потрапити й в паралельні часові відтинки, наприклад у світ де вже була Третя світова війна. Зважаючи на таку структуру світу Желязни напхав у своє творіння купу різних історичних персон, від диктаторів до винахідників, й заправлене це все фантастичними механізмами та істотами. Головний герой - Ред, шукає поворот у світ з якого він прийшов(адже якщо довго не їздити ними вони з часом зникають), допомагає йому в цьому книга наділена інтелектом, а от протистоїть ціла купа ворогів, адже на нього відкрили полювання. Damnation Alley – Roger Zelazny Was gonna watch Damnation Alley on Youtube last weekend, but then remembered that I bought the book awhile ago, so thought I'd give that a go first so I didn't have any preconceived visual ideas of what was being described in the text. Lucky I did, because considering the movie was made in 1977, I'm sure all the giant bats and snakes in the story are going to look rubbishingly, well, rubbish. I'm guessing it's got a so-bad-it's-good vibe, so I'm looking forward to finishing the book and getting stuck in to the live motion version – plus it's got Hannibal himself in it. No, not Lecter; Smith! Hannibal Smith, you know, George Peppard. From the A-Team. Damn straight! Anyway, I'm about halfway through the book and it's trashy and written pretty basically, but that's all I can kind of deal with these days – everything else in life is complicated, so I don't need that shit when I'm trying to escape reality. I usually like the rawness of the works of sci-fi artist Eddie Jones, who did the cover for the version of the novel that I've got – published in 1974 by Sphere – but the killer cover belongs to the 1977 printing by Berkley (see last photo that I grabbed from the inter webs) which I think was the actual movie poster...how good's the type treatment in that! And the colour scheme. I once used this book with a young woman high school student who was an absolute screaming-at-teachers-daily everybody-knew-her-name behavior problem. She loved it to pieces. I'm not sure she really understood the distinction between "biker gang" and modern youth gangs, she just thought the main character was a thug and she liked it when he tore out a guy's eyes with his thumbs. Welcome back to ‘What I Read Last Read’, part 4 of 8. What’s todays theme? How could it possibly stack up to part 3’s being disappointment? Well, todays theme is Dystopia!! Dystopia / Post-Apocalypse is one of my favorite genres and man oh man did I read some good ones last year. Let’s start off with ‘Damnation Alley’ by Roger Zelazny. This was an impulse pick up because the cover (not picture, way to go me…) was so cool. ‘DA’ is the perfect, over the top B-Movie-esque book that was just too fun to read to put down. When your main character is a skin-head biker named Hell Tanner who the government contracts to drive across the barren wasteland of America (the Damnation Alley), you can’t help just smile at the ridiculousness of it all. Next up, ‘The Parade’. I’ve read a lot of criticism on Eggers work since reading ‘TP’ and right now I don’t really understand it. Granted, this was the first book I’ve read by him, but I really enjoyed this book. It’s a short and effective story about two men creating a road between a developing village and the more affluent, large metropolitan city in anticipation for a celebratory parade to symbolize the connection of the two cities. The dynamic of the two characters tasked with paving the road works really well, in my opinion, even if they’re more or less exaggerations of opposing ends of the spectrum. I think there’s also something to be said for the ambiguity of the story. There’s a lot that isn’t given to you initially, you kind of have to work on implications or ideas and piece things together at times. Although, I can see the ending being the antitheses of this idea and being disappointing to some. I believe Eggers did a really great job of creating tensions and investment in the story, which is admirable given I don’t believe it’s longer than 200 pages. Last, but not least, ‘Children of Men’. I won’t say much because I’ve already explained why I loved this book and that it’s one of four 5 star books for me. This is such a bleak, yet believable imagining of humanities last breath and how the world would react to knowing that it’s all coming to an end. I truly can’t recommend this enough.
