Had the honor of participating in the Miwok 100K this past weekend (there were 11 relay teams that ran with a sold out 400 or so ultra marathoners). It’s an iconic race in Marin that gathered a number of elite runners that left the team in awe. We ran the 100K as part of a relay, each leg doing a portion of the run. Relays are not easy. Getting dates and schedules to run together aren’t easy or even possible sometimes. So after figuring schedules out, we were able to assemble a group that sacrificed days away from family and other engagements to get together and get workouts in prior to the run. For most distance runners, we are lone wolves in a lot of ways. So, to get together and be able to feed off the energy of the other guys the day of was helpful to each one of us. The volunteers and organizers of this event, hats off. We really felt supported and despite high winds and rain for much of a day that started before 5am for most of them, in a storm, they all were there, equipped and helpful. This was the first time here, it won’t be the last. So I did a thing! Never had I thought I'd have completed a marathon in my lifetime...but I did it. I'm super proud of myself for all the hard training I put in and pushing through to finish line on the day. So grateful for having company for the 1st 3rd of the marathon with fellow @emancipatedruncrew members Carol and Kem; it made that part go super quickly. It was so nice seeing so many known runners on the course as well as so many supporters. Every time it gave me the boost I needed. 2 years ago I heard about the @26.truemarathon marathon. Last year, I was able to volunteer at the marathon. This year, I got to run it with friends. This #medalmonday is a thank you to all the family, friends and communities that have helped me throughout my running, especially this season. 4 of us flew to participate and run this marathon. The reason for why this is put on is important to so many and to me. To bring running to communities in Boston where running has not always been on the forefront. To have people who look like us in the sport. This makes and Will continue to make a difference. But to also be able to do this with friends who have become family, it's extra special. We celebrate #MedalMonday to empower and support our runners, athletes, and community. But, we also celebrate #MedalMonday to celebrate what the run community is doing. Two days before the Boston marathon, our athletes went to Boston to run the @26.truemarathon, which is a marathon that is run mostly within the city limits of Boston. Runners run through the diverse neighborhoods and communities where the race organizers are working towards diversifying running in Boston. At this unsanctioned marathon, runners get celebrated equally, no matter of pace or how many races they've done, everyone receives the same cheers and everyone breaks tape. This is a movement and one that @familystylerc supports. @homedepaz, a member of our community, who ran the 26.True this weekend, shared a few words and sentiments regarding the race and weekend. Those words truly resonate with FSRC. We are here to support and keep providing opportunities. To cheer on all the runners because at the end of this, we are all runners. Not a day goes by… Members of a Black-led running group, TrailblazHers Run Co., have filed a lawsuit against the Boston Athletic Association (BAA), the city of Newton, and its police chief, alleging racial profiling and discrimination during the 2023 Boston Marathon. The lawsuit was filed by Lawyers for Civil Rights on behalf of the running group, claiming that its members were targeted and made to feel unsafe and unwelcomed by the police and race organizers. According to the complaint, the TrailblazHers set up a cheering section at mile 21 with mostly people of color, where they were subjected to police surveillance, harassment, and obstruction from officers. The running group argues that little has changed despite meetings with the BAA, and they seek a declaration that their rights were violated as well as monetary damages. The BAA has not yet responded to the lawsuit, but it had previously privately apologized to a group of police chiefs for its handling of the incident involving the running clubs. Last year I ran but I didn't really train. This year, I'm already doing much better 😊 - throughout the 14 years on and off that I've been running, I've had my really fast times and my times where a walk is my run. Now I can tell what I'm usually running based on feel, but the watch helps to track distance and my sleep 😴 I also think I said last year I wouldn't be signing up for many events this year, but here we are 😍 With becoming a @venturesendurance (VE) ambassador and just really wanting to run and enjoy, I've signed up for a good amount of things. Weeks 4 - 9/12... and breathe... I made it to the other side! The runs I have been dreading the most are all done. March was a long, busy month and my highest mileage month ever! This part... (the hours of training, all the miles, varied sessions, non running S&C sessions, pacing correctly, route planning, practising fuelling, testing out kit/footwear in all weathers, managing niggles, breaking in new trainers 💸 - as well as trying to stay alive and do your day jobs) ...is the hardest part of the marathon. However, this part also builds the mental resilience required on the day. They say the marathon starts at mile 20, so you're training your mind to embrace the suffering of the final 10k and keep going 🤪 #rememberyourwhy The next 3 weeks is the taper period, which will hopefully help settle the fatigue, nerves and self-doubt. Or maybe not, as it's also when the maranoia sets in (please do not cough or sneeze anywhere near me). Happy April 💛
