I told the hubs, “I’m thinking about going for a run.” It was snowing. I love running in the snow, which is easy to forget when it was sunny and 70 degrees the previous day. “I don’t know how long it will take, with all this snow.” “Okay, great, take your time.” So I went. The path was slushy, and within the first few minutes, my feet were wet. I kept going and discovered running through the slushy puddles invigorated me, it felt fun and invited me into wonder, like, “Let’s go! I have something to show you!” I remembered a motto I picked up someone along the my progression as a trail runner: “Enjoy each run for what it is.” Trail running is such a metaphor for life for me. Like… Enjoy each day for what it is. Enjoy your kids/friends/partner/neighbors/family members/community for who they are. Let’s go! 15 miles in and I have never wanted to quit more in my life… I sank into a deep dark valley mentally and physically my body felt awful. As I felt my body turn around and start to take a step back towards the aid station quit, I asked myself one question, “will you be fine with your decision tomorrow?” The answer was no. Truthfully, I had an incredible first lap and the heat of the day set in quickly. Combined with the thoughts questioning and doubting my abilities to maintain this pace. I knew what I needed to do, trust my training and keep pushing. This race was incredible from the rock scrambles, gorgeous waterfalls, creek crossings, and fun technical sections. My boys and my husband were phenomenal. I felt like a 👸 every time I came in to the aid station. My superpower finding four leaf clovers 🍀 without even trying and I found 10 on the course. I loved coming in from loop two to see my boys run the kids race ❤️ It was a big push for me. I learned so much from this race and cannot wait to get back to training. Falling Water 100k…No better way to spend the day! @rimtoriver nailed it again with another killer race. Even though I specifically requested a blizzard - 80s and sun will have to do. 🥵 Somehow, and by somehow I know how, snagged at 9:30:00+ PR over my last 100k. Huge shout outs to Brian for fixing my feet when they started shit the bed way too early in the race. @ryan_patrick_lemley for putting up with my sailors mouth for HOURS, 3 laps to be honest. Danny, @dmarsh104, @alisha.moreno and Melissa for helping get me in and out of aid and feeding me like the baby I am. @mattultrarunr, for pushing me and reminding me I can do the big things. Biggest props to @ilund3n taking the longest day ever in stride, being thrown right into the deep end of ultra running- all morning aid station duty, crewing me, and then pacing me to the finish. It's a great day to treat your pet for a hike. If your buddy is fit enough and well trained, a walk can make a dog very happy. They love to check out the sights and smells and will really look forward to spending time with you. It's a great way to build a bond with your fur baby. Some things to remember: 1. Some trails allow pets but want them to be on a leash. Always make sure to look up trail information first to be sure. 2. Bag your pet's waste. It wasn't there before you arrived, it doesn't need to be there after. Leaving behind waste could damage trails. 3. Bring pet essentials. This includes plenty of water and snacks. It may also include footwear, sunscreen, insect repellent, a pet first aid kit, or goggles for your buddy. 4. Respect wildlife. You can give your pet training, like Rattlesnake training so they can smell a Rattlesnake and retreat from them. Also, keeping pets on a leash prevents your pet from chasing wildlife and disrupting habitats near trails. What else do you take when your pet joins you on @hiker_babes trails? After a lovely weekend with my sister, nephew and neice, it was lovely to come home to a very over excited dog 🐕🥰 • I had such a fun time visiting my sister (as I always do) we did lots of playing and chatting and cuddling (the kids not my sister and me 🤣😂). Leo’s very into Happy Potter now, which I’m here for in a big way 🤩🥳 Arrived home, managed to coax Indy out for a sunny saunter, before swapping my wellies for my trainers and heading out for some evening sunshine. ☀️ Which was soooo lovely after the non-stop rain 🌧️ all morning. Super excited that yesterday me, and 2 of my friends have signed up for @Brightonhalfmarathon next year, now just have to wait for March for all the excitement, but gives me another goal to aim for. When the group run is canceled but you go anyway… with a trail race coming up in a few weeks, I wanted to get some more miles. I had the trails mostly to myself and split my 10 miles between the main trail and the single tracks. It went pretty well! I was happy to see this deer - he’s a triplet and the other two were nearby, snacking on foliage. I saw a few others lying down in the brush. Lots of birds. I love this picture. Not because it almost looks like a painting (kudos to the photographer) but because it captured a moment of struggling and hardship. . .It was taken 24 hours in at the Chester 100, on the second morning. The sun had just come up but it was very cold. I was at the lowest low, my leg had given up and every step uphill was a struggle. I was feeling very sorry for myself, and considered telling the photographer that I really did not want my photo taken at this point, but I had no energy to do that. . . Running ultras is never easy, especially these long ones. With hindsight, I am glad that someone captured the struggle, because this is part of it. The pain, the exhaustion, the emotions, the questioning why you are doing these things. However, the beauty of ultrarunning is the fact that you will almost always get over these lows, they don’t last forever. Remembering Hope on Bird Ridge. What a special day. I spread her ashes up at the summit. And spent a long time alone at the summit in the sun. I saw friends along the hike and there were a lot of people on the mountain so I felt so blessed having the summit to myself to remember my sweet Hope. Bird was one of her last big hikes one year ago.

Long run yesterday with Coco and we saw our first rattlesnake (together) since she was bit in the eye a year and a half ago. I’ve been dreading this not knowing how she would respond. She reacted with a healthy amount of fear and responded to my commands and we skirted around it and all went well. I’m glad it finally happened - it’s a relief to get it over with and hopefully I can move on🙏🏽. We didn’t see any other wildlife or people. 8.5 miles this morning! 5.75 outside at this gorgeous park and on to the Santa Ana Trail. But first, I had to hit up #otfanaheimhills for my last visit of the trip. 2.75 hype ass miles on the tread next to the early morning studio assistant. I was yelling “let’s go!
