April FUEL ⛽️ in review 👩‍🍳 SOME OF THE FUEL I ONBOARDED IN APRIL LFG 💪💪💪 1. Prawn Bao Buns: 7/10 — the flavour was insane but it was messy to eat and I didn’t like that (awwwwtism) 2. Soft serve 10/10— Had it three times this month because life is too short not to eat ice cream every Sunday. 3. Buffalo ranch chicken wings and tater tots— 8/10 The wings were STUNNING but the buffalo was so hot I couldn’t feel my tongue and the tots were dry 4. Salmon grains bowl 8/10— three different sauces. Discovered a love of tinned salmon. Would have again 5. Salmaon-cado bagel with an egg 9/10 Insane amount of protein (35g) flavours were incredible. Honey sriracha is everything 6. Potato Salmon salad— 10/10 Potatoes are love. Potatoes are life. 7. Roast 10/10 This was the best roast I’d made in years. 8. Burrata and pea-mint crush 10/10 This was so good I would have had another one. 9. Chocolate Mousse 9/10 I expected an actual chocolate mousse, but it was better. It was like a massive Gu pot and I had stratchiatella ice cream, which if you didn’t know is my favourite. TW: Relationships with food April was the month I started to actually fuel my body. And holy shit, what a difference it has made. I stopped seeing food as “good” or “bad” and started to reframe the way I thought about food in general. “I don’t know what to eat” became “I should fuel my body.” And it was like a switch flicked inside of my brain. I needed fuel in order to do the things I wanted to do, like go to the gym, or go running. And I knew if I didn’t have enough fuel on board, I wasn’t going to be able to achieve my goals for the week. This is a very different relationship to food that I had ten years ago when I was using the gym for aesthetics only. And honestly, that girl wouldn’t recognise me now. If I’m hungry now, I eat something, rather than going hungry because I had set meal regimes. Now, I eat two breakfasts and two lunches if I want to. I’ve taken the restrictions off and I genuinely do have running to thank for it. I don’t think I would be where I am now, typing this out, looking at all the amazing food I smashed this month.

Boston Marathon 28.04.24 written by Maria! I trained for this event for the sole purpose of trying to get a similar race time (4:50:22) as my Brighton Marathon result back in 2021 which was unfortunately unofficial (they forgot to re-licence) and 600m long! My race plan was A to PB or B come in under 5hrs. I truly believe I would have matched Brighton time had the weather conditions not been exceptionally hard. It was cold, wet, and very windy, the second half was largely into the wind, and roads were flooded with ankle deep water. By Mile 18, I could no longer fuel, as my hands were too cold to use. The final 4-6 miles were brutal, all into very strong winds, and my resulting slower pace meant I was getting increasingly cold, I just kept repeating the mantra ‘just keep moving’. The end could not come soon enough, and by then, I was suffering from mild hypothermia. Fortunately, Giles was there ready to scoop me up (literally) to the paramedic area. Once in dry clothes and a cup of tea in me, I perked up very quickly to witness a room full of other runners in a similar and worse state. I managed Plan B - achieving a time of 4:57:40. I am both proud and frustrated, I kept going, which did require resolve. However, I know had conditions been different. I would have been faster, but hey that’s what marathons are like! One day, one chance and for the stars to align you need a bit of luck and luck was missing on this occasion! It's still an awesome effort from one of our members! Stability Session To: Strengthen The Joints (Knees, Ankles, Hips), Prevent Injury, Develop Explosiveness, Change of Direction, and Speed Here’s some exercises from our Injury Prevention session, I wish I could’ve captured them all. These Exercises Develop: Eliminates Muscle Imbalances Lower Body Power Balance/Body Control Joint Strength (Hip, Knee, Ankle) Explosive Power Speed Prevents Injury Agility/Change of Direction Ankle/Hip Range of Motion Strength Developing stability (joint strength) allows your body to have a solid base of support to produce power from. Force=Power, Force = Speed. The more force you can produce, the faster you run, and the higher you jump. The better your knees, ankles, and hips can absorb force, the better you can change direction. We all have muscle imbalances (one leg is stronger than the other). If you can get both legs to operate at 100% instead of one leg 50% and the other 100%, then you’d be much more explosive, fast, and lest susceptible to injury. Some of These exercises focus on putting stress on the hip, and knee, using the time under tension method. The more time your knees/hips spend under tension, the more solid this foundation gets. Ex 1/5: Develops Ankle/Knee (quad) strength. This exercise really focuses on putting the joints under tension for longer periods of time, developing that strength in those areas. Ex 2/3/7: Develops balance, and strength within the knees/quads. These exercises make you spend time under stress, directly targeting the knees. Love #2 b’cus of the dynamic movement while stabilizing, teaches stability and body control Ex 4/8: 4 Develops ankle range of motion, and ankle strength. Love this for rehabilitation, and prep for any type of day. 8 Develops Hip Flexor strength, and range of motion within the hips. 7 M A R A T H O N S I N A W E E K ! Meet @atriv01 who is taking on this awesome challenge for a great cause in September. He got in touch with me the other day as he was looking for people to run with. (He has a lot of training ahead of him and he is now added into our WhatsApp group!) We had a great chat and I said that some of our runners will definitely join him not only for his training runs, but for some of his marathons as well, even if just for 5km! Here is a little bit about the man who has decided that doing 7 marathons back to back is a genius idea! (Also something I would do so I can’t even say how stupid it is! I mean GREAT!) “Hey, I’m Alex 👋 I started endurance training in 2015 and since then, have completed triathlons at Ironman and the 70.3 distance. But now I take it on my greatest challenge: 7 marathons in 7 days for brain tumour research, which is a charity close to home after my Father-in-Law was diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. Despite it being one of the deadliest forms of cancer in children and adults under 40, only 1% of the national funding gets allocated to brain tumour research. ⏰ 2 hours and 30 minutes ❤️Zone 3 running in the sunshine 👌 ☀️ Out the door by 5:30am, which I wasn’t particularly happy about when the alarm went off at 04:45, but totally worth it when the majority of the run is in the sunshine (and it’s a Zone 3 run - maybe I wouldn’t be saying the same thing for a Zone 5 run!). Beautiful conditions although there was a breeze here and there, and it’s that time of the year where you are blinded by the sun and can’t really see who is running towards you. I just say hello to everyone😂 ☀️Covered almost 22km which is fairly decent for Zone 3. Always hard to know the distance on a zone run because conditions can really make a difference, but I thought somewhere between 21 and 22km so that’s pretty decent. Time on feet wise, today’s 2.5 hours was the longest time running since the virtual NY marathon back at the end of October last year. Training is getting definitely picking up. An intense week but I’m back! . I will keep showing up in some capacity, may not be where I was 2 years ago, but I won’t give up. Let’s just say it’s not been smooth sailing so far this year 😵‍💫. With an injury, lack of sleep, new routines=less free time. Last week had a tooth 🦷 extraction, the most painful ordeal 😩, then the loss of our beloved DAC running coach Rob 😔. Rob left a lasting legacy through his personal advice to each and every runner in the club. His wisdom, warmth, kindness and encouraging words will stay with me forever. I will always hear his voice in my head saying “trust the process” and “don’t get carried away”. A true gentleman who will be greatly missed but never forgotten 💜💚 . The sun ☀️ made this mornings run amazing 🤩, how lucky am I to be able to do this! It’s not always about how many miles and what time did you finish. Today was just taking it all in and enjoying the moment. I need more of this!!! . Happy Tuesday! .

Stability Session To: Strengthen The Joints (Knees, Ankles, Hips), Prevent Injury, Develop Explosiveness, Change of Direction, and Speed Here’s some exercises from our Injury Prevention session, I wish I could’ve captured them all. These Exercises Develop: Eliminates Muscle Imbalances Lower Body Power Balance/Body Control Joint Strength (Hip, Knee, Ankle) Explosive Power Speed Prevents Injury Agility/Change of Direction Ankle/Hip Range of Motion Strength Developing stability (joint strength) allows your body to have a solid base of support to produce power from. Force=Power, Force = Speed. The more force you can produce, the faster you run, and the higher you jump. The better your knees, ankles, and hips can absorb force, the better you can change direction. We all have muscle imbalances (one leg is stronger than the other). If you can get both legs to operate at 100% instead of one leg 50% and the other 100%, then you’d be much more explosive, fast, and lest susceptible to injury. Some of These exercises focus on putting stress on the hip, and knee, using the time under tension method. The more time your knees/hips spend under tension, the more solid this foundation gets. Ex 1/5: Develops Ankle/Knee (quad) strength. This exercise really focuses on putting the joints under tension for longer periods of time, developing that strength in those areas. Ex 2/3/7: Develops balance, and strength within the knees/quads. These exercises make you spend time under stress, directly targeting the knees. Love #2 b’cus of the dynamic movement while stabilizing, teaches stability and body control Ex 4/8: 4 Develops ankle range of motion, and ankle strength. Love this for rehabilitation, and prep for any type of day. 8 Develops Hip Flexor strength, and range of motion within the hips. Moin liebe Lauffreunde ✌🏽 Warum in die Ferne schweifen, wenn das schöne doch so nah ist? Raus in die Natur ist einfach was schönes. 🥰 Da ich die letzten Wochen gemerkt das ich mental nicht bereit war, bin ich nicht beim #haspamarathonhamburg gestartet.
