This week's recap. Listen I don't make the rules, these are some of my very favorite things too. Remember, making dietary changes can have a significant impact on skin health, and removing certain foods from your diet, such as sugar, alcohol, dairy, gluten, and processed foods, help alleviate skin conditions like acne, eczema, rosacea, and psoriasis. These foods contribute to inflammation, disrupt gut health, and cause skin issues in most individuals. While it may be challenging to eliminate these items from your diet, especially if they're among your favorites (like me), the benefits for your skin and overall well-being will be worth the effort. By focusing on whole, nutrient-dense foods and avoiding inflammatory triggers, you can support gut health, reduce inflammation, and promote clearer, healthier skin from within. Remember, everyone's body is unique, and what works for one person may not work for another. It's essential to listen to your body, pay attention to how different foods affect your skin and overall health, and make dietary choices that align with your individual needs and goals. 🥗🌱 #SkinHealth #DietAndSkin #InflammationFighter #GutSkinConnection #HealthyChoices #ClearSkinJourney

🍞🚫 Today, let's talk about the connection between gluten and gut health as we strive for radiant skin from the inside out. Here's why gluten could be stirring up trouble in your gut and why it's best to avoid it: Inflammatory Response: Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, rye, and their derivatives. This protein often times causes inflammation in the gut. Intestinal Permeability: Gluten has been shown to increase intestinal permeability, also known as leaky gut syndrome. Gut Microbiome Disruption: Gluten consumption has been associated with alterations in the composition and diversity of the gut microbiome. Gluten Sensitivity: Even in individuals without celiac disease, gluten sensitivity can manifest as a range of symptoms, including bloating, gas, diarrhea, constipation, fatigue, joint pain, headaches, and skin problems such as acne, eczema, or psoriasis. Eliminating gluten from the diet may help alleviate these symptoms and promote gut healing. Hidden Sources of Gluten: Gluten can hide in unexpected places, including processed foods, sauces, condiments, soups, and even cosmetics and personal care products. It's important to read labels carefully and be vigilant about avoiding gluten-containing ingredients if you're trying to eliminate gluten from your diet. By being mindful of the impact of gluten on your gut and making informed dietary choices, you can support your body's natural healing processes, reduce inflammation, and promote optimal gut health and radiant skin. 🌾💚 #GutHealth #GlutenFreeJourney #InflammationFighter #ListenToYourBody #HealFromWithin #SkinHealthFromWithin #GutSkinConnection

Hello everyone, I wanted to reintroduce myself and welcome my new followers. I am Gillian - you probably already knew that. I am a mum to 2 very active kids - they keep me on my toes! I run a clinic in South Manchester and I work online. I qualified a few years ago but did not start up my clinic until last year. The past year my clinic has been busy and I am very blessed. My personalised nutrition and lifestyle packages have resulted in some huge changes to the mums and kids that I work with. I like to say that I educate and give suggestions but it is you who puts all the focus in. These changes can take time and sometimes I work with you over a long period of time and sometimes we can see huge gains early on. So far I have worked with sluggish bowels, itchy skin, neurodiversity and people who are run down and have illnesses back to back. I have a huge interest in working with mums who, for no fault of their own, have found themselves in last place. This can lead to poor health from not prioritising their own needs. I also love working with unpaid carers - I can zoom out now of my personal experience and this has enabled me to create plans for people who have lost the way when it comes to looking after themselves due to being that rock for someone else - even small steps can lead to big shifts! The other area where diet and lifestyle can be helpful is with skin health. Think of less itchy skin and therefore better sleep - sounds good eh! Anyway, enough about me for now. Feel free to send me a message if you have any questions. 🥛🚫 Today, let's dive deeper into the impact of dairy on gut health as we continue our journey of understanding and healing. Even if you're not lactose intolerant, dairy could still be stirring up trouble in your gut. Here's why: 1. Inflammatory Triggers: Dairy products contain hormones and proteins that have been shown to trigger inflammation in the body. 2. Microbiome Disruption: The hormones and proteins in dairy can throw off the harmony of your gut microbiome. If you're on a journey to heal your gut, whether it's to clear up your skin or address other health concerns, it's highly recommended to steer clear of dairy during this time. Eliminating dairy from your diet can help reduce inflammation and give your gut the chance to heal and restore balance. . 🌱💚 #GutHealth #DairyFreeJourney #InflammationFighter #ListenToYourBody #HealFromWithin #SkinHealthFromWithin #GutSkinConnection

Have you heard of the gut-skin axis? The gut-skin axis refers to the direct connection between the gut microbiome and the skin. More and more research is connecting chronic skin conditions - like adult acne, eczema, rosacea, and psoriasis - with gut health and microbial imbalances. 1️⃣ Gut Microbiome Dysbiosis, an imbalance in the gut microbiome, can lead to the production of metabolic and fermentation by-products - known as endotoxins and pro-inflammatory cytokines - that can lead to external changes affecting the skin. 2️⃣ Food Sensitivities Gluten and other food sensitivities have been linked to eczema and other skin rashes because of their effect on gut inflammation and immune function. 3️⃣ Inflammation When inflammation occurs in the gut, it can lead to increased intestinal permeability (leaky gut) and trigger inflammation elsewhere in the body, including the skin. The usual way of addressing skin issues is through external topical applications, but to address the root cause… I always look at the patient’s gut health picture. Previous post touched on what could be the underlying reasons for your acne; I wanted this to be about small diet-changes you can trial to support your skin that’s worked for me ❤️‍🩹 1. Filtered water: Yes, our tap-water is drinkable but it doesn’t mean it’s filtered from things our bodies don’t like such as rust, bacteria, chlorine, heavy metals etc. When I got a bench-top water-filter (15-stages of filtration/activation), I really started noticing changes in my skin (Don’t buy bottled water; a lot of it is no better) 2. Probiotics: You can easily include probiotic-rich foods like goat’s kefir, sauerkraut, kimchi, pickled veg - start slow if you don’t eat these regularly, so your gut microbiome can get used to the strains of (helpful) bacteria. 3. Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Omega-3’s have anti-inflammatory + immunity properties that can help improve skin quality by lowering inflammation. Fatty fish (salmon, mackerel, sardines), chia & walnuts or, include Cod Liver Oil which contains more Vit A + D than fish oil (don’t consume cod liver oil if pregnant). 4. Limit sugar + processed foods: it spikes insulin & can lead to inflammation. You may just want to limit/choose better options: - Milk-chocolate < 70%+ dark chocolate - Lollies < whole low-sugar fruits - Soda’s < sparkling water w/ fresh mint/lemon/lime - Store-bought < homemade 5. Antioxidant-rich foods: Antioxidants help neutralise free radicals, which are unstable molecules that can cause oxidative stress & inflammation in the body. They also support the skin’s natural healing process by promoting tissue repair & regeneration. Some potent antioxidant-rich foods include: berries, citrus fruits, dark leafy greens, nuts & seeds, green tea & colourful veggies + chocolate with a HIGH cacao %. 6. Protein-intake: adequate protein is necessary for tissue repair, muscle growth, hormone production & immune function. If you can, opt for free-range/grass-fed/pasture-raised protein sources for increased nutritional benefits. Even better if you can include bone-broth + slow-cook meats as the process helps extract collagen, gelatin, amino acids & minerals which are building blocks for gut repair. Happy Gut = Happy skin.

What's the strangest nutrition myth you've heard when it comes to skin health? I think we've all been told that chocolate causes acne; however, studies show this isn't true. Turns sugar in chocolate is most likely the cause for the odd pimple popping up for some people. Opt for a dark chocolate instead that contains less sugar and has more gut and skin loving polyphenols. We've also heard we need to drink 2L of water a day to stay hydrated, but this too is a myth. Hydration is a lot more complicated and depends on things like the weather, physical activity, general health and lifestyle. So make sure you drink water throughout the day and keep an eye on your urine colour. If it's dark, you need more water. If it's clear or straw coloured, you're hydrated. Lastly I'm sure we've all heard of someone blaming gluten for their skin problems. Now this one is a little trickier as for some people this might be true. However the number of people who are gluten intolerant / sensitive in reality is much lower than what we think. You need a qualified nutritionist or dietitian to work with you to get to the real cause and to make sure you're getting enough of the right nutrients in if you need to cut it out of your diet. So if you suspect gluten, speak to someone qualified first before completely cutting it out. I'd love to know if you've heard a nutrition myth related to skin health so please share it in the comments below. Also feel free to share any questions you might have. 🩷 #nutritionmyths #skingoals #skinclinic #healthyskin #cleanskincare #acnetreatment #glowingskin #antiaging #skincare #skincaretips #skinmyths #glutenfreeskincare #skindiet #skinhealth #agingskin #perthskincare #perthskinclinic #melbourneskin #melbourneskincare #skinspecialist #skineducation #skinexpert #gutskinconnection #skinhydration #skinnutritionist #acnediet #dryskin #itchyskin #acnenutritionist #gutmicrobiome

Want to fast track your health? For all conditions, do this… FIX. YOUR. GUT. Here’s why... Remember Hippocrates? He said “All disease begins in the gut.” And he was right. Many systems in your body directly connect to your gut and provide two-way communication. GUT-BRAIN AXIS Gut affects your brain, and brain affects gut. If this isn’t optimal, you may feel anxious or depressed, plus all the 💩 symptoms. GUT-LUNG AXIS Gut to lung and lung to gut. Intestinal microbiota may be even more important than the lung microbiota in some pulmonary diseases. GUT-SKIN AXIS Gut to skin, skin to gut. The microbiome plays an important role in a wide variety of skin disorders and skin disorders may alter the gut microbiome as well. GUT-BONE AXIS Gut to bone, bone to gut. Gut microbiota affect bone health and your gut impacts bone cell turnover. GUT-HEART AXIS Gut to heart, heart to gut. Alterations in the gut microbiota are being explored as a method of reducing risk factors associated with cardiac diseases. GUT-LIVER AXIS Gut to liver, liver to gut. Microbes produce metabolites that affect non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Cirrhosis causes severe damage to gut microbiome. Gut health is CRITICAL to your overall health! No problem, we can easily diagnose what’s out of balance in your gut and treat exactly that! Schedule a FREE Gut Assessment with me and we’ll figure out your 💩. 🔬”Inner skin health would reflect on the outer skin” The gut-skin axis reveals an intricate link between the gastrointestinal (GI) tract’s well-being and the condition of the skin. Recent research underscores the complexity of this bidirectional relationship, emphasizing the critical role of a balanced gut microbiome in promoting healthy skin. 🦠 All acne vulgaris, psoriasis, and chronic urticaria studies stated the association of gut microbiome with skin manifestations. PMID: 35371420(systematic review) 🦠 Dysregulation of microbiota has been seen in numerous inflammatory skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis, rosacea, and psoriasis. PMID: 35625774 🔄 The gut-skin axis theorizes that imbalances in the gut microbiome can provoke immune responses and inflammation, culminating in skin issues. Studies reveal disparities in the gut microbiomes of rosacea sufferers. These imbalances might augment gut permeability, enabling toxins and inflammatory molecules to enter the bloodstream.  🥦 Moreover, dietary patterns can shape the gut microbiome and consequently impact skin health. For example: Diets rich in sugar and processed foods disrupt the microbiome, potentially exacerbating skin woes. However it’s highly subjective as per the root drivers , lifestyle and deficencies of the individual . We refer to an imbalanced gut microbiome as a S-A-D gut. This is because the contributing factors all start with the letters S-A-D. These factors include S: stress, smoking, sleep problems; A: alcohol, ageing, antibiotics; and D: diet such as fast foods and high sugar. Each one of these can lead to an imbalanced gut microbiome, which can show on our skin with blemishes, redness, sensitivity, and signs of ageing. Add Skin Clear Biome to your routine to increase the amount of good bacteria entering your gut. Did you know these are the root causes of your gut symptoms (thats are contributing to your eczema? If you ticked yes to 3+ of these…. Don’t worry I was guilty to all of them in my 20’s⁣ … Which is what caused my eczema to come back with a vengeance (in addition to the Brain-Skin connection) ⁣ You might be thinking…⁣ What?! So I have to avoid all of these for the rest of my life?⁣ Nope.⁣ ⁣ The aim is to get your body back into a state where you can tolerate them and not get a full body flare up⁣ ⁣ We call this “Building Skin Resiliency”⁣ So you’re not so sensitive to everything⁣ ⁣ Before you throw this in the too hard basket…⁣ Let me explain what's happening in your gut first.⁣ ⁣ All of the things above cause inflammation in the gut⁣ which eventually presents as eczema on your skin⁣ ⁣ Normally the body can withstand the “wear and tear”⁣ But after years AND years⁣ WITHOUT any repair and nourishment⁣ ⁣ It loses resiliency.⁣ ⁣ The body will always fight to stay in a state of homeostasis⁣ But it can only take so much...⁣ ⁣ ⚠️ Until “DIS-EASE” happens ⚠️⁣ ⁣ Does that make sense?⁣ ⁣ All of this damage in the gut impairs immune function.⁣ 70-80% of your immune system is located in your gut⁣ We know eczema is a hyperimmune response (inside the body)⁣ ⁣ When the gut can't breakdown food,⁣ metabolism and absorb nutrients into the body⁣ = nutrient deficiencies⁣ ⁣ These nutrients are crucial building blocks your body needs to heal and repair itself⁣ ⁣ Nutrient poor diet, inflammatory food and medications⁣ Wreak havoc and creates a breeding ground for “opportunistic bacteria”⁣ Which causes more inflammation and a hyperimmune response.⁣ ⁣ Soon your flare up bucket of inflammation is FULL.⁣ And you’ll see it coming out through your skin.⁣ ⁣ Unfortunately,⁣ If you’re in a chronic state⁣ The body doesn’t just heal itself⁣ ⁣ Fortunately,⁣ There’s LOTS you can do to heal your gut and your skin!⁣ ⁣ Are you ready to start healing your gut?⁣ Let's start workshopping where to get started healing.⁣ ⁣ ⭐️ Which of the above did you tick yes to?⁣ Comment below and we’ll help you workshop how to start healing 👇🏼

🍃 New Inspired Health blog post 🫶 From Inside Out: Exploring the Acne-Gut Connection 🍃 The gut, often referred to as the “second brain,” houses trillions of bacteria known as the gut microbiota, about 3-5 pounds of good gut bacteria! These bacteria help in digestion, nutrient absorption, and immune system regulation. When the balance of these bacteria is disrupted, it can lead to various health issues – including acne. Given our skin is our largest organ and first-line defense against harmful substances- we should pay attention when there are issues. So, how does #guthealth impact acne? 🤔 👉 Follow the link in our bio to read the full blog post which covers: — Inflammation — Leaky Gut — Hormonal Balance — Nutrient Absorption Plus, learn ways to improve gut health to help manage acne. #inspiredhealthtips #inspiredhealth #bendoregon #guthealing

It’s true! 🤓 If you suffer from skin issues like eczema, rosacea, psoriasis and even acne - the root cause is likely sitting in your gut. . I bet you’ve tried cream after cream, expensive topical treatments and haven’t really seen any kind of change. . Here’s the kicker. So many skin conditions originate in your gut and really need more than a skin cream or lotion to fix the problem. . Your microbiome maintains the balance throughout your body and (I know you’ve heard me say this before) it can affect so many other things including our largest organ - our skin! . Removing inflammatory foods from your diet and reducing the harmful bacteria that’s growing in your gut have been clinically proven to lessen when your gut is healthy. . Soooo if you think you’re eating healthy but still suffering with skin issues, it’s time to look inside at what’s going on. . I know my skin tone went from gray to pink when I started eating differently and taking care of my body through a gut healthy diet. . Maybe a 2 week gut reset would test the waters for you. And believe me it’ll cost you ALOT less than all those expensive topical creams you have sitting in your drawer. Not only does it have a full money back guarantee but can you imagine how you’d feel (inside and out) if it actually helps! ❤️ . Wanna find out the deets on a 2 week reset - comment “SKIN” or pop me a DM if you’re comment shy. . . . . . . . . . #skincaretips #skinhealth #gutskinconnection #skingutconnection #guthealthmatters #microbiomehealth #healthyguthappylife #healthygut #inflammation #inflammationdiet #eatclean #skingoals #happyguthappylife #dyk #acneskincare #rosaceaskincare #psoriasis #skinissues #healthymomhealthyfamily

Protein, protein, protein! Eat more protein, and all your problems will fade away, right? While I am a huge fan of protein and definitely stress the importance of getting enough, it’s not the end all be all nutrient. This is especially true if you’re trying to improve your gut health. The health of your gut is directly linked to your overall health, including your metabolism, hormone balance, and blood sugar control. As a certified macro coach, this is why I recommend a holistic approach outside of just protein to keep your gut happy. This often includes a few gut-supporting nutrients such as: *Prebiotics & fiber - the “fuel” for probiotics found in fruits, veggies *Probiotics - beneficial bacteria found in yogurt, fermented foods, & supplements *Polyphenols (i.e. antioxidants) - found in berries, dark chocolate, tea, & coffee So don’t forget about protein, but remember that by taking care of your gut too, you are taking care of the WHOLE you, helping you to reach your health goals more easily! \\ GUT-SKIN CONNECTION // Everything starts with a healthy gut. There is a strong link between the health + diversity of your gut + your skin it is know as the ‘gut+ skin connection.’ The gut contains a collection of trillions of strains of bacteria and microbes called the gut microbiome. This microbiome maintains homeostasis throughout the body but can majorly effect our other organs especially our skin if it becomes unbalanced. If we experience any issues with our gut like inflammation, leaky gut or digestion problems our skin is usually the first place we notice problems. Scientist have found links between gut health and skin health launch as eczema, rosacea and acne. When it comes to restoring an unbalanced microbiome one of the best ways to restore homeostasis is with probiotics. Hey everyone! Today, let's dive into how our gut health directly impacts our skin. It's not just what's on the outside that matters, but also what's happening inside our bodies. 🔍 The Gut-Skin Connection 🔍 The gut and skin are both large, important organs that play a crucial role in our immune system. When our gut flora is out of balance, it can lead to inflammation, which might manifest externally as various skin issues like acne, eczema, or rosacea. 🥦 What Causes Gut Imbalance? 🥦 Processed foods and sugars Lack of dietary fiber Excessive alcohol consumption Stress and lack of sleep Antibiotics and certain medications 🌟 How to Improve Gut Health for Better Skin 🌟 Probiotics and Prebiotics: Incorporate foods like yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, and high-fiber fruits and veggies. Stay Hydrated: Water helps to flush out toxins and keep the gut lining healthy. Manage Stress: Yoga, meditation, and regular exercise can help reduce stress, which positively affects your gut and skin. Sleep Well: Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep per night to help repair your gut and skin. 💬 Have you ever noticed changes in your skin based on your diet or stress levels? If you know me, you know I’m super passionate about gut health and skin! 🩷🩷 During my time in nursing school, I dedicated my final research paper to exploring the fascinating Gut-Skin Axis. As I delved into clinical studies, it became evident that the gut and the skin are intricately connected. During my research, I discovered most every inflammatory skin condition is related to one of these gut conditions. Gut inflammation can worsen conditions like eczema, psoriasis, acne, and rosacea. 👋🏼 When first meeting my clients, I often find them at a breaking point. They’ve exhausted countless products and remedies, yet struggle to achieve and maintain clear skin. That’s why, in my approach, I prioritize understanding their digestion, antibiotic usage, birth control, diet, and lifestyle. These factors greatly influence the function of both the skin and the gut. When one is out of balance, so is the other. 🧴 If you are on a proper skin care regimen & treatment plan but still not seeing effective results I highly recommend doing a GI Map test and looking further into your gut even if you do not have prominent gut issues. 🪄 I believe in taking an integrative and lifestyle-based approach to treatment, but it’s important to consult with your functional physician. I recommend prioritizing your diet, incorporating appropriate strains of probiotics, regulating your nervous system and addressing any nutrient deficiencies through supplementation. If you’re struggling with any skin condition and feeling lost, let’s start with a consultation. I’m here to help you get back to healthy and happy skin! 😊 Head to my link in bio for resources to help & link to GI Map test! #GutHealth #SkinCare #HolisticHealing #Probiotics #GutSkinConnection CITATIONS PMID: 30985706 PMID: 35118105 PMID: 25045884

Hirsutism's most common symptom is dark, coarse hair growth in places where hair typically only grows on men — your face, lower abdomen, back, chest, arms, and legs. Of course, women have hair in these places already, but it’s usually very fine and barely noticeable. Hirsutism triggers thicker, darker, coarser hair growth. So what can we do about it ? Firstly, we could treat hair with IPL in the winter months for a quick fix, but that's not to say new hairs won't appear in time, so a more sustainable approach is also needed to rebalance the hormones.
