🚨 Getting lost in Turkey 🇹🇷 …the Turkish getup that is. I did some ring push-ups & a bunch of Turkish getup variations the other day. Ended up being 4 or 5 rounds of 12-15 push-ups and a different getup. I always prefer to do my Getups from the top down just so I only lay down once 🤷🏻‍♂️ (it also allows for more complexes too). This time I didn’t want to lay down on the floor shirtless 🫣 😂, so the goal was to sit down & maybe add some sort of press to add to the pump 💪🏼. No idea. 🚨 PENH HOUSE WORKOUT 🏨 This was our first night in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. 🇰🇭 The hotel was called The Penh House 😏. 🚨 JUST CHECKING IN 🏋🏻‍♂️ CrossFit will always be a fun sport for me as I have always loved the ‘fitness’ part of any sport I’ve played. Always been competitive and wanted to be the fittest on a team. So when CrossFit came around, it definitely spoke to me because it wasn’t just running and Plyometrics! Even though I’ve ’hung up my gloves’ so to speak, I’ll still jump in on a class from time to time….& best believe I’ll still bring out the bells when I can! 🚨30 minutes is all you need ⏱️ I started with a 28kg for A, then 32kg & 36kg for part B. You don’t have to go heavy to get a good workout in. Just selecting the right movements that give you the most bang for your buck. The snatch is exactly that, along with the offset rack for the SA front squat. The added component of the ‘half-snatch’ (lowering to the rack each rep) giving you that extra shoulder burn 🔥, anyway … 👇🏼 A) Every 2:00 for 5 rounds: •Snatch + inv. TGU + SA front squat R •Snatch + inv. Spent a few minutes getting loose, then proceeded to try one of @sean.pearse flows to get my juices flowing 🧠. Then I managed to learn a few new tricks! 🚨 CORE WORK I don’t do any sort of crunches or sit-ups, haven’t done for a long time . The only sort of core training I do is through loaded & weighted carries, or through Turkish getups, windmills and bent presses too. Of course we could list all the movements that bring the core into play, but that’s 99% of kettlebell movements. Some I’m just thinking of a couple that really work the trunk. 🚨 IT FEELS GOOD TO BE BACK 💪🏼 Although I got 3-4 workouts in last week back home 🇬🇧, there was only really one session where there was any meaningful volume being moved. Funnily enough, by the time I did my first set of bear hug squats… I could immediately feel the soreness of the back squats & lunges I previously did 😩 But you learn to love that, so back to work. 🚨 MAKE THE TIME FOR MOVEMENT 🔔 Went to the mountains for the weekend but the reps don’t stop 🎿 Nothing crazy, but we had plenty of down time…so why not sling one around. 🔔 So I had a little fun with a complex outside, before we got snowed on pretty good! 🏔️ Clean • SA Squat • Press • Snatch 4-3-2-1 3-2-1-4 2-1-4-3 1-4-3-2 Hopefully that makes sense to you. 4 movements each complex, each round the rep numbers move along. Once you’ve done one full cycle of all the ‘rounds’, complete 1-2 more rounds for a total of 2-3 rounds depending on time and bell size. 🚨OVER ZEALOUS 😏 Ever go too hard and have to dial back ?? This was my Iron Cardio session last week. Because I got 2 new 36kg bells 🔔 from @socalkettlebellz I decided to tweak the workout a little bit… I bit off more than I could chew 🫣 Probably should’ve only increased the volume rather than shortening the rest time also 😂. Every :45 for 30 minutes (40x) •clean •press •squat 1-8) first 8 sets w/28s 9-16) seconds 8 sets w/32s 17-24) middle 8 sets w/36s 25-32) another 8 w/32s 33-40) final 8 w/28s That was what was planned… but I ended up doing 8-8-6-9-9. It’s been a main piece of my training since I started using kettlebells. This year I’m definitely aiming to get much closer to reaching the ‘sinister’ standard, iykyk. 🚨 WHAT THE HELL📈 When I first started consistently kettlebell training, I did 2 movements over and over for about 2.5 months. The program I followed was called Simple&Sinister. By the man Pavel, look him up. It was about 30 minutes of work 5-7 days a week. As much as I felt like doing it. However, after repeatedly doing it…30 minutes was soon enough 20, then eventually 15. The 2 movements: •Single arm Swings •Turkish Getups Now I know my video has 2H swings, but that’s because the program is basically about achieving 2 different benchmark standards. A Simple standard (32kg) & a Sinister standard (48kg). After I reached the simple standard by the end of the first lockdown. Having not touched anything more than a 32kg/71lbs kettlebell. I managed to hit a 15lb PR on my power clean (290). That’s 200+ lbs heavier 🤔. This was my ‘a-hah’ moment with kettlebells 🔔 “The what the hell effect” 💪🏼 — — — — Consistency of good habits. They’re awesome, I’m sure you all know this by now. But as I took to kettlebells, I left behind CrossFit. Now I’m glad I made the decision, but I do miss the competition aspect of it. It’s fun to be an athlete after all. So kettlebells & surfing have been my recent passions.

The key to success is not necessarily willpower, but habit building. - At the start, getting into the gym for me had a lot to do with willpower. I had to find the motivation to get up and go spend 2 hours in the gym lifting weights. Now that I’ve been training for over 3 years it’s not all about willpower anymore. - To be honest I don’t have any more willpower than you. I have just become more and more disciplined and now I’ve been able to turn the gym from a hobby into a habit. When a habit takes over, the amount of willpower needed to do a task is significantly less. - Now obviously it’s very hard to develop a habit for something which you don’t enjoy. So whatever aspect you are trying to become successful, start turning it into a habit. It takes a lot of discipline and willpower to develop a habit. But once you’ve got it, it takes very little to maintain it.
