Here's why ๐ Most of us require at least some level of carbohydrates for normal body functions. Sedentary people require less carbs, so restriction isn't as drastic, biologically, for these people. Now, if you exercise, going too low on carbs for an extended period can actually cause: ๐ธ๏ธmuscle catabolism (breaking down of mass -both muscle and fat mass) ๐ธ๏ธincreased cortisol ๐ธ๏ธdecreased testosterone (yes, even you ladies) ๐ธ๏ธslower metabolism ๐ธ๏ธreduced thyroid function Long term, low carb diets are especially harmful to women: ๐ธ๏ธdisrupt hormone production ๐ธ๏ธirregular menstrual cycles ๐ธ๏ธloss of bone density ๐ธ๏ธlowered fertility Now, not all carbs are created equal, obviously. I'm talking more here about the low carb diets that cut out whole grains. If you cut out carbs like refined/processed carbs, white flours, sugar, etc. - of course it will help with weight loss. Carb requirements are also ๐ฏ based on the individual - specific goals, activity level - even genes play a part. I think the moral of the story is - restrictive diets simply aren't the answer. Don't take your diet to an extreme by cutting out entire food groups. The only sustainable meal plan is moderation and consistency. When I first moved out of home I was given a small plant Iโm not much of a green thumb But I knew that I needed to water the plant So every day I would give it a little bit of water The plant grew So I trimmed the branches I looked after this plant Then I went away for the weekend And when I got home I fell out of my routine A week passed and I remembered that I had to water the plant! Now I have your attention, the reason that you might be experiencing huge energy slumps in the morning might be caused by what youโre eating at breakfast! If youโre having issues with your energy levels in the morning, a high protein low-ish carb breakfast you might experience more energy in the mornings! BUT, if youโre working out first thing in the morning, having some fruit loops might be a good option. This is where context comes into play and where these infographics lack. I've had several people on the NHS Type 2 diabetes prevention programme write in giving such amazing reviews about me, the info and service I provide. Now I have your attention, the reason that you might be experiencing huge energy slumps in the morning might be caused by what youโre eating at breakfast! If youโre having issues with your energy levels in the morning, a high protein low-ish carb breakfast you might experience more energy in the mornings! BUT, if youโre working out first thing in the morning, having some fruit loops might be a good option. This is where context comes into play and where these infographics lack. I donโt want you to start to think that one is worse than the other. It ALL depends on context. But as always, figure out what works for you and stick with it!! Approaching 50 and had lost her mojo a little with food and training. Weโve been working together for 6 months now. Our initial goal was to provide some structure to her training and nutrition again and get her back into a routine enjoying training again. Thatโs exactly what we did ๐๐ป 1๏ธโฃ Phase 1 was about finding maintenance, and establishing a good metabolism with the right food. Although her weight spiked a little around holidays and weekends socialising m, weโve never been worried as her body always dropped back to maintenance again because weโd grounded her metabolism by eating MORE good quality food (NOT LESS ๐) 2๏ธโฃ Phase 2 we decided to do an 8 week cut โ๏ธ leafing into her big 50 celebrations which is where we lost the 8lbs. We did this nice and slowly so as not to lose muscle but drop fat. There have been ups and downs with menopause niggles but weโve worked through it together. Having a coach to bounce off is the key in these situations which stops you just giving up I think ๐ค 3๏ธโฃ Phase 3 - our next phase after a short maintenance again to reset her metabolism again is going to be our next build phase. Celebrating being the youngest I have ever felt ๐ฅณ. I did my longest run yesterday on my birthday and I got a bit emotional Iโm not going to lie. The run was a present to myself, because itโs the first year I can actually do it and I love running (never thought I would say that!) Iโm 34 with a titanium spine and if someone had have told me 10 years ago I would be running, doing hyroxโ and coaching I wouldnโt have believed them. I started my fitness journey in 2016 and I have worked out in the best gyms with great members and coaches @steelhabitatgym @iangfit27 @livfit_liverpool @crossfitrivermersey I got injured and needed surgery so I was out of the gym for two years. Special shout-out to @livfit_liverpool ๐because I went here 2 years post surgery and I basically had no mobility and couldnโt even walk 1km and now they have turned me into a running queen ๐๐ผโโ๏ธ.
