✨How to tell if the kettlebell is dropping too low in your swing??✨ Swing in front of a box. If the bell hits the box (at reasonable height), then you may be dropping it too low! 🔺Imagine a triangle inbetween your legs where your goodies are at the apex and knees make up the base. Keep arms high, closer to the apex! Wedge your forearms into your inner thighs and don’t let them drop below knees. I’m essentially asking you to do a Lat. Pull down in a hinge position. Why? This position promotes scapular stability via engagement of the lat. dorsi muscle (+ scap stabilizers) which connects to lower back via thoracolumbar fascia. AKA keeps that low back engaged with help of those erectors. ❌ Too much leaning forward & flexion at the spine causes the Kb to drop below knees. WTH effect: " Repetition kettlebell lifting is one of the best tools for all around physical development. Voropayev (1983) observed two groups of college students over a period of a few years. A standard battery of the armed forces PT tests was used: pullups, a standing broad jump, a 100m sprint, and a1k run. The control group followed the typical university physical training program which was military oriented and emphasized the above exercises. The experimental group just lifted kettlebells. Some raw kettlebell training vids with some raw thoughts… Been a minute since i sat down to make “content” i usually like to show you the real stuff in my training and coaching, but when i get busier i find myself not reaching for my camera as much and way less likely to sit down and create videos for instagram. Sometimes its nice to have those moments to yourself when you rarely get them throughout the day Its in these workouts where i turn to kettlebells, and usually in my own home. I dont have a fancy camera set up, or a sleek backdrop, or the perfect angle/lighting, or curated outfit on. But thats not what creates productive training What does matter is showing up for yourself and getting the work done. Training wont always be perfect. Sometimes all you have is 30 minutes, sometimes you have to stop early to take care of your kid (or puppy). Most times you wont feel like doing it until you realize how much better you feel once its done. So no, training and content creation or building your business wont always be perfect (as i tell myself), but that doesnt mean you aren’t chipping away at it everyday, which overtime leads to the big lasting changes. In June, @bransher and I will be leading a 70hr Kettlebell Teacher Training. This training is accessible for anyone, you do not need previous coaching experience to take part, but current PT and coaches are very welcome to join (and will still gain a ton of new knowledge through taking part, as well as CECs). This training is a fully comprehensive training that will teach you everything you need to know to coach kettlebell group classes and private sessions. We will cover extensive functional anatomy, language and cuing, programming, history of kettlebell, creating inclusive spaces, and more (manual provided). Each day will host a movement session to refine your own technique, followed by a Movement Mechanics Lab where we will break down the why and how of each kettlebell movement. You will get lots of time to practice teach, and there are immediate coaching opportunities after the training. Nutrient timing is vastly underrated. Daily totals matter most, but you can make big changes if you know what you’re doing For example: If you normally eat 5 meals, and your schedule is Meal 1 Meal 2 Train Meal 3 Meal 4 Meal 5 Try moving all of your carbs to meals 1, 2, and 3. You’ll 100% notice a change even if you eat the exact same foods. Sides: At the beginning of the week I recommend using a rice cooker to make a big batch of rice, and baking some sweet, regular or spudlite potatoes. Not only will prepping these in advance save you time, but it turns to resistant starch which is great for the gut! Add 1 to lunch and 1 to dinner to round out your meals. Vegetables: I love throwing micro greens on top of these meals because they are nutritious and don’t require cooking, which is perfect if you’re busy. However, you’re more than welcome to add any roasted veggies as well. This is just an example of how easy and efficient meal prepping and cooking can be. If you follow this structure you can EASILY have food prepped 4-8 days, with very little active cooking time. Utilizing a crock pot will allow you to throw something in, then take care of whatever else you need to do that day. This is by no means a perfect day of eating, but if you are ordering out a lot because of convenience, this will be a HUGE upgrade. If you have bad habits that are blocking you from creating good habits, you have to make the conscience effort to disrupt your current behaviors and get going on creating new ones. No negotiating with yourself. “I’ll just skip a couple workouts” “I’ll just have half a donut before bed” “I’ll just have one drink”. These seemingly tiny decisions will start to add up and more excuses will start to seep in. So what are you supposed to do? - Start replacing these not so great habits with better ones
 - Be aware when these thoughts pop up and recognize the negotiation and think first before reacting.
 - You can get to the point where these thoughts just start passing right through you and you can forget about them and go about your day.
 - When you’ve created a new habit, connect it to another habit and so on.
 - You’ve got a handle on your nutrition…ok, now let’s get consistent with your workouts. You will start to string these things together and that’s when the badass in you starts to emerge.
 - Know that discomfort is part of the process. Too many people just want to quit when it gets uncomfortable or too hard.

Lunch: Lunch is the most important thing to meal prep as most people do not have time to start cooking lunch each day. 2 incredibly easy options, that are nutritious 1. Shredded chuck roast: You can throw 2kg of chuck roast in the slow cooker and have 8 servings of 40+ grams of protein each. The best part? It requires about 2 minutes of ACTIVE cooking time! You simply cook it until it shreds. It’s great by itself with just salt and pepper, or you can add different seasonings. You can keep 4 servings in the fridge, and 4 servings in the freezer. 2. Beef mince: It is incredibly easy (and efficient) to throw 2kg of lean mince on a pan, which will give you 4 servings of 40-50g of protein. Dinner: 2 options: meal prep dinner, or quick weeknight dinners. Since we had a fattier protein for lunch, we will keep this meal lean. Meal prep: 1. Shredded chicken breast. Throw a bunch of chicken breast in the slow cooker bang in a jar of salsa, buffalo or barbecue sauce with a pinch of salt. Shred it up and it’s done! Again, you can make 2kg and have 8 servings of 50+ g of protein. You can freeze 4 and keep 4 in the fridge. Quick weeknight dinners: 2. White fish or salmon in the oven, or prawns on a pan. Both of these will not take more than 15 minutes. Buy a seafood seasoning blend, and serve with fresh lemon. This is incredibly easy, nutrient dense and enjoyable. Just a very quick recap of the Nor Cal Kettlebell Clinic from Sunday in Sacramento. Here's a spicy little session for you if you're short on time that packs a punch. Choose 5 bells that drop 4kg each time. Biggest one here is (Black Betty ) 40kg, We're going to do 5 sets starting with 8 reps on the lightest bell, working through to the heaviest bell dropping 1 rep each time we move .which should bring you to 4 reps on the heaviest. Try not to have breaks between bells. swing timing will alter as the weight goes up. Work for that float! For example: 24x8 28x7 32x6 36x5 40x4 Thats one set, rest and repeat for 5 sets . 150 reps in total 💪 Finish off with 10 x TGU 1&1 (don't rush these) again I'm partial to an ascending ladder. 16,20,24,28,32 Done! 💥

I love a bit of kettlebell endurance, which is something I take some of my clients through to because it's something they seem to love to. Now my client Ricky is one of those people, so now and again I test him out with the Clean & Jerk. The rules are there are set time for specific weights, and the bell doesn't touch the ground until the time is up. Last date off practice 20/10/23 24kg (5 mins) 20kg (7 mins) 16kg (7 mins) 12kg (7 mins) To this day 24kg 7 mins 20kg 10 mins 16kg 15 mins Of course we didn't see the point in doing the 12kg, far to light now 😉 Although we don't practice often, that is some good progression 💪 It's only 1 movement but it can be very challenging and works a variety of areas especially as its a full body movement:- 1. Cardiovascular endurance: The continuous movement and rhythm of the clean and jerk can elevate heart rate, improving cardiovascular health and endurance. 2. Functional strength: It mimics real-life movements, enhancing overall strength and coordination, which can translate into better performance in daily activities or sports. 3. Improved flexibility and mobility: The dynamic nature of the clean and jerk helps increase flexibility and mobility, especially in the hips and shoulders. 4. Fat burning: Because it combines strength and cardio, it's an efficient calorie burner, aiding in weight loss and body composition improvement. 5. Mental focus: The technical aspects of the movement require concentration and focus, promoting mental clarity and mindfulness during exercise. Use this to eat 150-200g of protein per day, in less than 1 hour of active cooking time per week Let’s start with the framework. We are going to be eating 4 times per day: -Breakfast -Protein snack -Lunch (fattier protein) -Dinner (leaner protein) Breakfast: Eggs and fruit We will keep breakfast super simple, and to prevent having to cook every morning we have 2 options for prep: 1. Easy egg bake (scramble eggs and bake them in a muffin tin) 2. Boiled eggs (can boil them in advance) Protein based snack: Protein yogurt bowl or smoothie This is another high protein, nutrient dense meal that we do not have to cook. Use a cup of yogurt, kefir or milk, with a serving of high quality whey protein, berries of choice, and a small spoonful of raw honey. This can be blended as a smoothie, or simply stirred together with a spoon. Buy individual yogurt cups to save you even more time. Part 2 next post. . Thank you, Fitness! After 11 years in the fitness industry, I’m hanging up my hat. ✨ My career in fitness taught me so much. Too much to share in one post. But what I will share is this: ✨ • I have met the most amazing people and in choosing fitness, my life was forever changed. • It inserted me into an incredible community at @mffclubhouse for five years. • It took me to Los Angeles where I was able to create something out of nothing AND learn that California speaks to my soul in ways I never imagined. • It gave me a purpose during the pandemic where I got to show up every day and see dozens of faces reminding me that connection is the most important thing. • It gave me an anchor in challenging times. • It gave me freedom to step away and take care of myself. • It gave me so much joy. • I take all of this with me as I move forward in this new chapter. Let’s talk body composition, health, wellbeing, realistic goal setting & lifestyle for a second. I talk to a lot of individuals about this, clients as well as friends. And I find that many (especially men) have unrealistic ideas of what healthy values are, what they look like & therefore what to aim for. They’re mislead by influencers, commercials & looking at professional athletes or models. So I’ll use myself as I stand & measured at the moment to clarify. A bit of background to put things into perspective: I’m a 39 year old male who has been physically active all of my life. I’ve been a football player, ultra runner, done bodybuilding type weightlifting, calisthenics (just to name a few activities) & the last 6ish years primarily trained kettlebells. Last couple of years I’ve consistently done full body sessions 2-3 hours/week with kettlebells. That means no isolation “pump” exercises or structured conditioning. I don’t follow a strict nutritional regime, eat what I want when I want only focusing on getting enough protein (100-120 grams/day - intuitively) & lots of veggies. I consume alcohol & takeout weekly. According to @ouraring I’ve slept on average 7 hours & 23 minutes the last month. In short I lead a normal life with no restrictions or fanatic behaviors. I’m neither crazy muscular or lean by any means. But I’m reasonably strong & well conditioned for my age. I generally live a pain free life & I’m pretty okay with the way I look. My point is that you can achieve a reasonable amount of strength & fitness as well as a health & an acceptable physique with little time & lifestyle investments. On the other hand if you actually want to look like & perform like a pro athlete, you must accept that it’s a whole other game in regards to lifestyle restrictions & time investment. I’m not saying you shouldn’t aim higher than where I’m at presently. Frankly I’d like to be strong, more muscular & leaner, but I also want lots of freedom & flexibility in my everyday life. Some of you are here for kettlebells, fitness and nutrition… and some of you are just here for Mary. 💕 This post has something for everyone :) Mary as my hype person & providing commentary as I try not to die with double bells. Working with doubles is advanced and super taxing! I worked up in weight doing this circuit. 5 double kettlebell swings 5 double kettlebell overhead presses (I had to do push presses) 5 double kettlebell cleans 5 double kettlebell squats 5 double kettlebell snatches (actually two is all I could manage) 3-5 pull-ups Lots of rest as needed I used 14kg (31#) the first set, 16kg (35#) the second set, and 20kg (44#) as best I could on the third set, which I recorded. I finished this playtime with a complex of all of the above with the double 14kg bells. The video cuts off, but I made it through! Feel free to save this workout and try it when you’re feeling frisky. Getting outside with bells in perfect weather with my favorite gal is the best way to start the day.
