Today's work. I couldn't get my Wahoo kickr to connect to my phone, so I wasn't able to get the stats from that app, but, it really is just a matter of time on the bike right now. I'm not actually doing any sort of spin-like workout. This has been a very difficult week on a personal level, and I am happy that I have been able to keep on track with my workouts and losing weight. Sometimes workouts can be an escape from inside your own head. When all feels lost - try to get out and do something physical. It shifts your focus from your problems to your physical being and feeling your muscles work and your breathing powering you. Like it or not, thoughts will show up in your mind. All sorts of thoughts! Thoughts you like and thoughts you don't... Scary thoughts, interesting thoughts. We are the passive experiencers of our thoughts. Thoughts are an inevitability when you have a brain. Thinking, however, is optional. The difference? Thinking is an active process that involves effort. You may respond to passive thoughts with active thinking intended to address your thoughts. Once you see that you're thinking, you have the choice to disengage and reorient your attention to the here and now. Yes, thoughts will come back, and maybe beckon you to think. The 1975 - A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships (2018) "I found a grey hair in one of my zoots. Like context in a modern debate, I just took it out." Ah yes. My favourite album by these guys. Where the first album was a collection of clever pop tracks or ambience filled dreamscapes, and the second album was like a lore-companion on a literary fantasy trip, this is the magnificent reboot that somehow takes you to even greater heights. It still ticks all the pop sensibility checks, but meanwhile delivering genuinely wonderful and thought provoking prose that doesn't tie itself in knots, discards the barrier of whit and barbed retort, to deliver sincerity by the bucketload. They're also quite content to continue borrowing ideas and not quite cleverly disguising them, but they ultimately make everything their own, and this album delivers in every single metric I could care to throw at it. Massive anthems, beautiful medleys, hilarious and poetic lyrics that deepen with subsequent listens, and an approach to creating music that feels fresh, vibrant, and more importantly, unifying. We've all experienced these issues, maybe not waking up from a drug inspired binge, but the difficulty of communication, the breakdown of relationships, and the inner failures we only recognise when someone else shares it as one of theirs. It's tender, honest, and holds up a mirror back at the world demanding you look closely.
