Memories were always something I never questioned. I would go out with my friends and wake up the next morning with no doubt of what happened the night before. That was before OCD struck me down with false memories. I was walking through the grocery store and my mind took a turn on me It made me go over and over if I hit something (or someone) while driving my car. Mind you, I knew I didn't But OCD didn't care about that. It wanted me to truly believe I did So I went back, checked for anything, anyone, and of course nothing was there because I didn't do anything but OCD wasn't satisfied...it had to make me crumble. And it did I spent the next few years going through the same thing with almost everything in my life. I had gotten so deep in a rut with this I had no idea how to get out. The only way I remember actually making this lift is when I put into my head that false memories are like a undeveloped picture. In the beginning, it's foggy, and then when it develops you see all the details. Then you look closer and you see things you didn't notice before. Here's the thing... That picture isn't yours. The details aren't yours. All that mess is something OCD created. It put the picture in place. It's taking something simple and casual and making you believe that you did something catastrophic at the same time A false memory is a thought. OCD will do everything it can to make you believe it happened. It didn't

Between Covid and the increase in online (vs in person) social life, IRL socializing can feel scary, uncomfortable or just unfamiliar for many people, even leading some of us to develop social anxiety. #PickingMe over #SkinPicking "Somedays when I pick at my skin I still feel beautiful and worthy red marks and all, other days not so much. On those better days though I like to take a selfie like this one which was right after a picking episode. I still have imperfections on my skin but there's other things about myself in the photo that I enjoy. Such as my ability to still be smiling at myself regardless, to enjoy my eyes in the natural lighting and my ever messy hair. It reminds me that there's more to me and more to be grateful for than just my skin on days like today when I feel like I can't see them because my skin is blinding me. Anxiety can show up in many forms - sometimes forcefully and sometimes in subtle ways. Here are some of the ways anxiety can manifest in our daily lives; 📍 Physical Symptoms - Racing heart, sweating, trembling, dizziness, fatigue, unexplained aches and pains, heaviness in the abdomen, teeth grinding, hair pulling. 📍 Emotional Turmoil - feelings of dread, panic, a constant worry that things will go wrong, feeling unsteady and unsure of self. 📍 Cognitive Effects - brain fog, difficulty concentrating/focusing, obsessing over fears, catastrophic thinking, negative thought loops. 📍 Behavioural Changes -Avoidance or people or situations (specific or general), changes in eating or sleeping habits, increased reliance on substances like alcohol or caffeine, increased procrastination. 📍 Impact on Relationships - tension, irritability, withdrawal from loved ones, feeling isolated. 📍 Performance at work/school - anxiety can be an invisible barrier to productivity and focus, brain fog making it difficult to focus, self-doubt leading to indecisiveness and procrastination, difficulty meeting deadlines. 📍 Spiritual and Existential Questions - Sometimes anxiety prompts us to look deeper into the meaning of life and our purpose and place in the universe. I already know what you're gonna say. So before you come at me 🛑🛑🛑 I take medications. If it weren't for my medication, IDK if I'd be here, real talk. So I'm all for medications. Ya know what I'm also 100000% for? Doing the work. Medications can 100000% make the work more manageable and seem POSSIBLE when otherwise it's just so far out of your zone of understanding let alone capabilities and willingness. Medications turn down the volume so you can change the channel. Medication gets you to the starting line - but you have to run the race. What this means is that medication doesn't do anything directly for learning. YOU have to go out of your way to do the behavioral work to give your brain new experiences so that it learns you do not need to do these rituals to stay safe. Medications may allow you to get to that place - but they will not be solely responsible for getting you to that place. YOU have to get to that place. So don't underestimate the power of some good old fashioned learning. A lot of this boils down to things that you have learned and learned and learned over time. And the good news is?
