Been a while! Decided to have an impromptu, unintentional break from SM, mainly due to life getting in the way, and having a host of wonderful migraines, which isn’t as fun as it sounds! 😏 The good thing is it gave me a bit more time with this little psycho, who is becoming a good swordsman… he’s not… I kicked his ass again as you can see from his floored sword. I mean let’s face it, he’s not even 2 yet, about 1/4 my size and lacks any experience, but to be 84-0 is kind of disappointing. I was drinking my coffee today while feeding Maleeha breakfast in between her yawns (She didn't sleep through the night and has woken up exhausted) and I was wondering what affect my coffee mixed in with her weetabix would have on her 😂 Then I remembered how in NICU, she was given caffeine as one of her daily meds! Isn't it funny, I went through pregnancy being super healthy, cut out so many things, including caffeine (massive tea and coffee drinker here!) I was so healthy I actually lost weight by trimming the fat! But, when Maleeha was born, she was immediately put on caffeine and morphine 🙈 and remained on them for a considerable amount of time! The morphine made sense to me, she required so much intervention, she needed to be heavily sedated. We couldn't risk her being alert and aware to fight against the ventilator that was keeping her alive. Caffeine, I learnt, is regularly used for preemies to protect/reduce instances of apnea caused by their lungs being underdeveloped. Plus, the simple fact that when born so early, a baby isn't quite ready and able to just do something as natural as breathe. It's amazing what you learn as a NICU mama. ⭐️ We have exciting news! 🤩 We got discharged from the hospital! 🙌🏼 We still have a long road of healing ahead but we are so excited to be all under one roof again for the time being. 💙🤍🩵 . We also got a preliminary update on the tumor. Right now the pathology is showing a Chorioid Plexus Tumor which does have the potential to be a benign tumor which is excellent, however, there is still some final testing that is in the works that may classify it differently (methylation testing 🧬). And despite even if it is a benign classification of this tumor type, we are still faced with the fact it is still very large, we do not know how quickly it is growing or for the potential of spread to occur (none so far 🙏🏼), and also it is highly vascular meaning it has an aggressive blood supply. All of this complicates his case. We are likely looking at chemotherapy for a couple months prior to a second surgery. The goal of chemo is to try and shrink the tumor size as well as decrease the amount of blood supply. This will help to make removal of the tumor in total more achievable as well as safe for Ellis. Full removal of the tumor by surgery is the ultimate goal for this type of tumor, but all will depend on how it responds to the chemotherapy which is further dependent on the classification of the tumor which is still pending. 🧠 . We are cautiously optimistic at this time but still anxiously await the tumor typing. Not only will this give us prognostic answers but it will dictate when and how we will start chemotherapy, which could be as early as next week. It’s been a very long time since I last updated! Marley is doing well, his physical scars are healing but mentally he’s still anxious. He still struggles with walking, particularly long distance and we don’t know if this will improve or not.. it’s literally just wait and see as time goes on! He got his new build ups last month; his consultant wants to under correct because when you have surgery like his at his age, the body tends to over compensate and grow extra bone.. next review is October to see how his leg has grown, whether it’s lengthened anymore and see what the plan is going forward! His surgery last year went as well as expected, they managed to form some sort of hip socket - from what we were told, it may not stay that way and he’s got lots more surgeries ahead of him! The holes from the plates and screws healed well also with no infection to the bone, he had these removed in November 2023. Just a little Jack update... It's been a while, because I honestly haven't had much to say and that just feels soooo good! Jack survived Term 1 of Kindy with only a few minor hiccups, and not even so much as a sniffle! 😲 I know, I'm shook! His immune system is getting stronger 💪 and I'm here for it!! Jack has had a few little assessments recently to measure his development and assess his behavioural needs and differences. He has been given a diagnosis of Autism and ADHD and we are now awaiting results to determine which level and develop some strategies moving forward (most of which we are already doing!) This doesn't really change much in our world but will help us gain some support in time for school next year. There are tough days, and there are good days, but I am just so grateful that there are days with our boys at all - there was a time we weren't sure it would happen for us ♥️ Jack's swallow study is next month and we are all so hopeful 🤞 that the results of this will show huge improvement so that we can look at slowly weaning his oral thickener and dropping a tube feed over spring/summer. He had his routine PEG change today and handled it like a boss alongside his brother and support worker 🙌 Unfortunately his weight gain has plateaued since his reflux surgery and he's dropped down a percentile so we are adding all the good fats to as much of his food as possible 🥑 His latest obsession (I call it that cos if you know Jack, you know that when he vibes something he vibes it HARD 🤪) is AFL team songs. Yep, he will sit and listen to them on repeat and tell you what team each one is, which one is no good, and will randomly break out in song throughout the day - 'we got the power to win, the power to yule' 🤭😍 Apart from that, I really have not much else to report apart from the fact that he will be FIVE in less than two weeks 😳 It is absurd, he still seems so much younger than that to me! Maybe it's because I'm in denial, maybe it's because of his delays, or maybe it's cos I'm still putting him in overalls every second day!? 🤣 Either way, I'm not ready. Slow down time 🥺

Paules Beikost für heute. Das wird gemischt und dann kommt da zusätzlich noch normales Katzenfutter mit dazu. Diese "Mischung" bekommt Paule dann über den Tag verteilt per Päppelspritze. Momentan frisst Pauli wieder gar nichts aus eigenem Antrieb (außer vielleicht mal ein Bisschen Trockenfutter). Pro Mahlzeit füttere ich ca 60 g. Das verträgt er gut und er lässt sich super mit der Spritze füttern. Not even 10 hours home. Unfortunately we are back in the ER, in the trauma unit. Zoe spiked a fever of 101 & she was retracting significantly down in her lungs when she was breathing. They are forcing her 02 with meds and about to give her a chest X ray. We will keep you posted on the x ray results and the blood draw results. The first photo shows Scout’s brain the night the doctor found her tumor… the second photo was taken at 10:16 this morning. OUR MINDS ARE ABSOLUTELY BLOWN!! Scout’s oncologist said it best… “Scout, your tumor did not like the medicine we were feeding it!” Our girl had another successful scan! Scout will have her final round of chemo on May 1st and she is soooooo excited to ring the bell! A few weeks later she will have her port removed, and our girl will be back to “full working order.” Scout will continue to have her weekly PT and OT sessions once chemo is completed to continue to strengthen her left side and work on her fine motor skills. We are so incredibly proud of how hard our little girl has fought to get where she is today… she is one tough little cookie, that is for sure!
