Having animals is always an expensive business. Kitcat is 18yrs old, she's been with me (Ellie) since I first arrived in France. She's been losing weight and struggling to eat, so off to the vets we went. Turns out she had a broken jaw.... The excellent vets ( @docteur.raoul ) at Le Teilleul have removed some of her lower jaw as they suspect bone cancer. She's home and back to eating and meowing like normal. Having Pets is never easy or cheap is it? I've found the veterinary care in France wonderful. I've used the same vets for years only deviating for my horse last year when we took her to the special veterinary hospital in St Lo. (A week in hospital came to 2000e) So, tomorrow we are off to @domainedelabourbansais for their spring fayre, and hopefully we will have a good weekend so i can pay the rest if the bill 🙄😆 ➡️@le_roche_sauvage ⬅️ #livinginfrance #veterinary #frenchlife #expensivepets #catsofinstagram
Where do you find a waterfall in a garden in a quarry, a white tree next to a giant nest and a brewery? This charming mix (and more) can be visited in the western parts of Nantes. The »jardin extraordinaire« is surrounded by steep cliffs on the one side and the Loire on the other as it’s been set up in a former quarry. An artificial waterfall is one of the favourite spots of its visitors. If you’re in the mood for a little butt workout you can also hike up the steps to have a nice view over the water. I don’t really know what’s the reason or meaning of the giant nest and the white tree. Because they are next to the »Musée Jules Verne« I figured they’d refer to his stories but apparently they don’t so it stays a mystery. In general I felt like there’s a lot of urban art in Nantes. I’m celebrating two years of living in France! 🇫🇷💕 Some of what I’ve done so far: - Started a French company - Got my residence - (Finally) got my French driving license - Started a blog on Substack - Started a novel (it’a thriller) - Ghost-wrote a book to help couples fighting cancer (coming out in May) - Sold one of my companies - Filed French taxes (twice!) - Learned (by surprise) what French “social charges” are (gulp!) - Visited at least 56 Chateaux and Monasteries - Adopted a teeny part of a vineyard in the south of France - Started the French Wine Scholar certificate program through WSG - Visited at least 13 wine regions - Renovated two homes (still in progress) - Joined a French running club - Joined the American Club of Paris - Took 110 French lessons even though I’m technically fluent - Embarrassed myself at least 300 times making mistakes in French (I stopped counting) - Ate more than my weight in baguette and fromage - Loved every moment, even the hard parts!!! Yesterday we went to Limoges for the first of our medical appointments as part of our visa requirements. Can’t go to Limoges without a walk through the Quartier de la Boucherie followed by a croque monsieur and a raspberry tart 😋 from Le Gavroche boulangerie. Sometimes we like to go out without knowing where we are going. Today we took some burgers, had a picnic and visited this village named Chabrillan. It was so pittoresque. The abandoned castle, the beautiful flowers, it was so silent. The village was built in the 11th century, at the foot of the castle. Various rivalries such as the Wars of Religion or the French Revolution have deteriorated both the castle and the village. Finally finished the cabinet on the 1st floor. The idea was always to build something "rustique", almost medieval. I designed and forged the strap hinges (first time) with the ends based on fleur-de-lis, we are after all in the "Allier". Like the hinges, the latch is forged with 4 mm stock. The doors are made from Douglas fir and oiled. I like the contrast with the other fir.
