In italia il libro è stato tradotto e pubblicato da @pianobedizioni con il titolo Tornare a casa. Cronache da una vita senza tecnologia , un diario che racconta l’esperienza di vita di Boyle in una piccola baita di legno nel bosco senza l’aiuto della moderna tecnologia: senza acqua corrente, auto, elettricità, internet, telefono, lavatrice, radio o lampadine. Un’esperimento che inizialmente sarebbe dovuto durare un anno ma che si è poi protratto. Book 2 of the year. I love a book that makes me stop and think and this did just that. We live in a fast paced world of convenience and with everything at our fingertips but this definitely comes at a cost to our natural world. He strips back to a world without technology and I think there’s something we could all learn from that. Will definitely be putting his moneyless man on my reading list

Un témoignage qui donne envie d’aller vivre dans les bois 😊 📖 Extrait : « En sortant du magasin, je mets le cap au sud-ouest, vers la rivière. Mon corps est affamé de protéines. Il y a trois mois, j’ai renoncé à mes sources habituelles (…) pour les remplacer par du poisson. Sauf que je n’arrive pas encore à en attraper. Je n’ai pas sérieusement pêché la truite depuis mon enfance, et ça se voit. Au bout de 3 heures, toujours pas une touche. La nécessité me dict de persister. Je ne sais pas s’il fait encore trop froid pour les truites, si je n’utilise pas les bons leurres, si je ne ferai pas mieux de pêcher à la cuillère, si j ne suis pas à la bonne profondeur ou si je fais encor je ne sais quelle autre bêtise. Il faut que j’apprenne et vite. Jusqu’ici, j’ai appris une chose : il est vain de vouloir apprendre à pêcher si on n’apprend pas la rivière. Ces choses-là prennent du temps. Je m’exhorte à garder patience. Na początku stycznia, w momentach, gdy trawiąca mnie gorączka nieco słabła, snułam plany na najbliższe tygodnie. Postanowiłam, że w 2024 roku skupię się na tym, co dla mnie najważniejsze - na rodzinie i na wewnętrznym spokoju. Postanowiłam zrezygnować z social mediów. Wylogowałam się z Facebooka, usunęłam aplikacje z telefonu, a na przeglądarkę internetową narzuciłam 10-minutowy limit czasowy. Niby nic szczególnego, a jednak przez pierwsze kilka dni bezwiednie sięgałam po telefon, szukając palcem znanej różowo-żółtej ikonki. Po dwóch tygodniach bez SM nie widzę już powodu, żebym kiedykolwiek na nowo instalowała aplikacje mobilne. Moje konto na IG pozostanie zatem tym, czym miało być w swojej pierwotnej wersji - osobistym dziennikiem kulturalnym. Bez przeglądania nieskończonego potoku stories, cudzych postów, inspiracji. Znam zalety instagrama i doceniam to medium, jestem jednak też świadoma tego, jak bardzo angażującą i uzależniającą jest platformą. Moja indywidualna decyzja zbiegła się w czasie z bardzo bliską tej tematyce lekturą. "Offline" Marka Boyle'a jest jednak skrajnym przykładem rezygnacji z technologii, do której ja nigdy nie dojrzeję, bo… nie chcę. Książka ta, choć w moim odczuciu ważna i bardzo dobrze napisana, wymęczyła mnie straszliwie i po raz pierwszy od dawna biłam się z myślami, czy dać jej szansę, czy porzucić jej lekturę na korzyść czegoś innego. Sam autor to irlandzki pisarz, który zaistniał w 2008 roku jako Człowiek bez Pieniędzy. Mark Boyle na tym jednak nie poprzestaje i dziesięć lat później decyduje się na całkowite zerwanie z wszelkimi udogodnieniami XXI wieku - elektrycznością, dostępem do internetu, telefonami, samochodami itd. Wyprowadza się na irlandzką wieś, gdzie ze swoją partnerką buduje małą chatkę i staje się nowym Waldenem, czyli człowiekiem z lasu. Niestety, jako nowoczesny Walden Boyle w mojej ocenie wypada blado. ⬇

Ten years ago I would have thought so. The truth is that it takes a lot of effort. Take this evening’s dinner. The plain roasted potatoes (with rosemary) needed weeding, watering and mounding for months, as did the bowls of vegetables and mixed salad. I cycled 40 kilometres and spent three hours trying to catch the pike. 読み終えた。 『プラグを抜いた』生活を始めた著者の冬から秋までの1年間を綴った本。 短い文章のまとまりで構成されてて、不思議な読み心地だった。 #稲垣えみ子 の #家事か地獄か を読んだときみたいに真っ直ぐ核に触れる感じじゃなくて、少し膜で覆われてる感じ？ 思考があちこち飛ぶから、もしくは外国人だからそう感じるのかな。 著者は元ビーガン、元動物の権利活動家だった。 お金＝テクノロジーを使う人間の活動は環境破壊に繋がってるから、その活動から自分は抜けたいと、農村で小屋を建てて住み始める。 トイレはボットンでおが屑と一緒に満杯になったら、別の場所に運んで1年かけて堆肥にする。 その大地で採れたものを食べて出したウンチを土に還すんだから、これが本当の循環型だよね。 現代は分業すぎて、1人1人が毎日することは決まって同じことで専門的。 １日中パソコンに向かって、データ打ち込んだり資料作ったり、全然大地に根付いてないよね。 災害とかでライフライン途切れたら、途端にあたふたパニックになるし。 資本主義は便利で快適だけど、引き換えに人や自然から搾取するばかりで、長期的に見れば破滅の道なんだろうね。 私も動物食べるのかわいそう、と言いながら食べる偽善者だし、中途半端なところにいるのはわかってるけど、できることあるのかな。 著者は交通事故で死んだシカを捌いて食べてた。 #ぼくはテクノロジーを使わずに生きることにした #マークボイル #markboyle #thewayhome #talesfromalifewithouttechnology #資本主義 #読書記録

前から気になっていたマークボイル氏の「僕は金を使わずに生きることにした」読んでみました！ 彼は環境活動家の方なのですが、簡単に本書を要約すると、お金を中心とした社会だと生産されるモノや生産する人と消費する人の間の断絶が大きくなる！→その結果みんなモノを大事にしなくなるし、人間同士の絆も薄れる(;つД｀)→大量生産大量消費で地球温暖化などの環境破壊もやばいし、現代社会って人も孤立してるしで、どうにかしないと！→原因ってやっぱ金よな？金なし生活してみようゼ！って感じです！ 今すぐ金なし生活はやろうとはおもわないけど、もうちょっと自分の健康とかカーボンフットプリントとか、自分が出きる範囲でやれることをやってみようと思わせてくれた本でした。随所に金なし生活のライフハックもあって、サバイバル本としても楽しめます！笑 ※環境意識高い系しか楽しめない本とかではなかったです。 #読書記録 #読書 #readingbooks #マークボイル #markboyle
In part-completion of my degree in jewellery and silversmithing (Loughborough College of Art and Design, as was; 1992-1995) I submitted my dissertation; a 10,000 word rambling discourse on the Boyle Family. Their ‘Earthprobes’ series haunted me then, as it does today. Quite literal, monumental re-presentations of the ground beneath our feet somehow alchemised through a rotation of ninety degrees; even into the then-hallowed annals of publication. The downtrodden, horizontal surfaces that grant us so much more than access have drawn my eye for over 30 years. They still do. 本を1000冊読むプロジェクト【698冊目】 本書は、お金をもらうことも払うことも禁じて一年間生活をした男の記録である。 金なし生活の内容については本書を読んでいただくとして、この本が面白いのは単なる金なし生活のハウツー本ではないことだ。 金なし生活、と聞くと世捨て人のような生活をイメージするが、著者はむしろ人との関わりや、利害関係を無視して人と人が助け合ったり、分け与え合う「シェア」の心を大切にしている。 端的に言えば、現代社会で失われているのはその分かち合う気持ちなのだ。 「自分の」物は大切。 「自分が」多く持ちたい。 きっと誰しもに悪気はないが、当たり前のように「自分」が利を得ることが第一に考えられてしまう。 それはお金という便利すぎる交換のためのツールが、消費者と消費される物の間に入ってしまうからだ。 お金を払う、という行為をするだけで大抵の物やサービスを受けられる。 そうなると、わざわざその物やサービスがどこからどういうふうに自分の元に来るかなどは想像さえしなくなる。 肉を食べても、屠殺される豚や牛のことを考えない。 水や電気やガスが使えるのは当たり前。 車や道路があり石油を使うのは当たり前。 「お金」が悪いのではなく、それによって暮らしが盲目になってしまうことが悪いのだ。 本書はその盲目さを取り払う一冊だが、世の中のお金への信仰は収まるどころか止まることをしらない。 無力さを覚えつつ、1人でも本書を読まれる方がいることを願い、これからも読んだ本を投稿し続けていきます。 #ぼくはお金を使わずに生きることにした #マークボイル #吉田奈緒子 #themoneylessman #markboyle #書評 #読了 #本 #読書 #読書垢 #活字中毒 #本の虫 #本のある暮らし #読書記録 #読書好きな人と繋がりたい #図書館 #本好きな人と繋がりたい

The Way Home by Mark Boyle Craft: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Plot: ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Enjoyment: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 This book gave me a lot to think about, and I enjoyed being challenged about my impact on nature (or, total lack of positive engagement with it!). I loved the nature descriptions, and the way the book was organised into seasons. I particularly loved the rhythm of the storytelling and enjoyed the way the book switched between a travel experience and his current small-holding. Highlights for me were points the author made about sleep-rhythms, veggie growing, the benefits of hypocrisy and the impact of individual action but there were times I found him ideologically fairly arrogant. His sarcastic quip about the environmentalist with the dishwasher was irritating, his comments about chickpeas not being vegan I found to be short sighted and reflecting a misunderstanding about the aims and ethos of veganism, and the total lack of addressing his absolute privilege in being able to live a life this way was particularly disappointing. He says that living with no electricity or running water is hardly privileged, which to me is a wildly ignorant statement. Nevertheless I appreciated his honesty about his die-hard approach and his openness about the breakdown of his relationship and overall I thought this was a thought-provoking and enjoyable read which made me want to oust the smartphone I’m writing this on right now, and go outside for a walk. 🌳 #thewayhome #themoneylessman #markboyle #environmentalism #veganism #bookstagram #readmorebooks #bookslug

Il y a quelque temps, j'ai lu L'homme sans argent de Mark Boyle chez @les_arenes . Ce livre, étant considéré comme le livre culte de la décroissance, fut une très bonne lecture. C'est exactement le genre de parcours qui me fait rêver, qui me questionne sur ma façon de consommer, qui me fait réfléchir sur cette société tournée vers le "toujours plus". Petit à petit, je fais mon chemin et dorénavant je n'ai plus honte de dire que mon magasin préféré est emmaus. Je n'achète quasiment plus en neuf, même s'il me reste encore beaucoup à faire. Pendant une année, Marc Boyle a décidé de vivre sans argent. Ce livre est un condensé de ce à quoi il a dû faire face, de ses réflexions, de ses difficultés. Grâce aux partages, aux échanges et à un peu de travail Marc Boyle nous montre que tout est possible. Il est possible de sortir de cette société de consommation, de se sentir plus joyeux dans le rien, de se contenter de peu pour être heureux. « Vivre sans argent cela en vaut la peine. In a beautiful gesture the customer who ordered this book, knowing my interest in the topic, gifted it back to me, an action entirely in the spirit of the story. @wisewordsbookshop Mark Boyle is a business graduate who first decided to live without money (writing a successful book on the subject) before purchasing a small holding in the west of Ireland where he aimed to live largely without the tools of modern life. For someone born into the age of technology, breaking up with his ‘phone and getting rid of computers was clearly difficult, but in the process he learned how to write with a pencil. No kidding. Instead of paying a standing charge for electricity, he uses rushes standing in the fields to make light. Like all the best books it is written with love. Love for his girlfriend(s), landscape, plants and neighbours. Love for life. Highly recommended for anyone who questions the virtues of today, or looks askance at tomorrow. It has already shifted my axis.
