Situated between Cardwell and Tully lies a waterfall and national park a lot of people drive past for Tully or Cairns area. Take the Bilyana Road exit from the highway and in approximately 20 minutes, you will find yourself driving through a small aboriginal community. Shortly after phone service is lost and you will land in Girramay/Murray Falls National Park. At this time of year, hardly a soul will be around as most people can't cope with the March fly invasion. The benefit of this is an entire national park to fly in with no people in the road of the photos and no screaming uncontained kids 😅 The campsite is luxury compared to most, with outdoor showers and sites less than 50m from the main river and a short walk to the main falls. The force of water this waterfall dishes out isn't to he underestimated taking 12 lives in the past. The area has had a lot of rain and overnight we noticed the water levels rose quickly. Something to consider as there are sections of this waterway which can be quite dangerous to unaware eyes. Head down stream, take a boogie boar, long rope and enjoy the ride down the mini rapids. 😁 The smaller rapids and falls further down are perfect for this type of activity. The main system consists of large granite boulders throughout and sandy substrate, which makes exploring a breeze. Don't miss this spot, trust me! The facilities were nice and clean, camping area was well maintained with heaps of room and was just metres from the falls and swimming area. Murray Falls We had so much fun here sliding down the natural waterslides. Seb found a $10 note in the water and Mal had a go on the rope swing. Unfortunately, the rocks are super slippery and we ended up having another emergency visit to the dentist this time. Grace had a fall and not only chipped 2 teeth, but they had also moved. A pair of Cassowaries were very inquisitive of our camp and the goanna just strutted through the campground without any fear. 12.07.23 Road trip day 50!!! 🎉 📍Murray falls ➡️ 📍Mission beach Its Kollins day off which means a full day of adventure! We started at Murray falls and did the lower two lookouts, we didn't realise until we arrived but there is also a campsite here which would be so good to stay at! You have the waterfall on your doorstep and the best wild swimming spot we've been to so far, there's even a natural rock slide! 💦 We saw Blue Morph butterflies and SO many dragonflies here 🦋 After cooling off in the water we headed to Mission Beach which was super windy and rainy but we waited about 15 minutes and the sun came back out! We plays bowls with some coconuts on the beach and saw skydivers landing here. We saw our first Blue Buttons too!
