Mr Maroon Caves, I’ve watched videos & heard a lot of stories. In the first couple of pics I was able to find it on the face of Maroon. The things I’ve heard are that people walk around for hours unable to find it. There is no trail to the cave & the terrain is very steep & easy to think that you’re on the right track. If you’re ever doing any off track hiking, do your research & save yourself a lot of energy & stress. We came in a little lower but pretty much found it without to many dramas. After already summiting I couldn’t imagine getting lost after you’ve already had a fair slog. As it turns out we did bump into a couple of girls who seemed very confused & had no idea where they were,but they were able to make it to the cave with us getting them back on track. Coming up to the cave is breath taking with a framed view of the Scenic Rim. It was much larger than I thought it would be, but definitely worth the quad burn. This fifty two peaks challenge has bought out some unexpected moments, & this one was a gem. We've got apples galore this year, personally I'm loving it! 🍎 My favourite way to preserve these beautiful babies is to peel off any blemished skin, remove core and roughly chop in the thermomix. The top photo is from 2012 when more than half the Rock burned and had to be monitored for weeks because the roots were on fire and many of us were evacuated. Our local firefighters and neighbors were up there trying to put the fire out. If not for the fire bombers, my house and my neighbor's houses would have likely gone up. I was in Bracebridge and could see the fire from Tim Hortons. My kids were home and had to be evacuated. The source of the fire is still unknown. The photo below is from last summer, 2023. Don't know why, but some people thought it was a a good idea to camp up there and have a fire, when there was no burning allowed at the time.
