Castle time!!! We rocked up and went into the visitor centre and got tickets for the castle. Great castle to explore and check out. Well looked after and for a ruin it’s standing the test of time. Another historic time piece here with lots of little corners to explore. What I feel could improve this for families is the option for a trail around the castle! The smallest house in Great Britain! I saw this red house in the distance whilst walking the town walls. Utterly fascinated with something that didn’t fit in, off we went for a closer look. Turns out the smallest house in Great Britain! £3.50 for me and the kids to take a look. So got the tickets and in we went. Short cd audio played whilst you experience the house and imagining people actually living in there! The lady hosting wash very kind to take pictures of ticket holders whilst you waited for previous visitors to leave. I really do love to try and experience as much as I can, no matter how big or small. Second day in north wales, we had a lay in and got ourselves sorted for the day. After breakfast we made our way for the first stop of the day, Conwy. We parked up and I accidentally paid twice for parking as the app was playing up and the pay machine wasn’t working properly either. But never mind. We set off to walk the town walls! This is free to access and walk along. It’s nowhere near as big as say York city walls, but you could jump on and off just the same here. The kids enjoyed walking along and looking at the views! our first stop in north wales! Betws-y-coed. I’ve always been in love with wales, but I’ve only done a week in North wales back in 2019. And it has been one of my favourite family holidays, even if being in October when we went. So to go back, was just pure joy. So onto this first stop. Parked up in the village car park and paid for the first lot of plenty of parking costs over the next few days. Made our way over to the train station and over the bridge. We found ourselves at sappers suspension bridge, which sadly is now closed off to the public, due the what I can see lack of maintenance and fallen into disrepair. The church next door, st Michaels old church the original church for the village. It was initially closed when we were taking a look at the outer building, but by utter luck a lovely key holder volunteer came by and let us have a quick peek inside! Heading back over the bridge into the village and out of no where (but never unusual up here inc. Leighton is at such a fun age where we can do more things that aren’t totally kid-oriented. Tbh she’s kind of always loved a good museum 🙊, so our first visit (yes, gasp!) to the Nelson Atkins Museum was no different. 🥰 10/10 recommend visiting when they’re having one of their cultural celebration festivals. They’ll have several demonstrations, specialty foods specific to the culture presented, and learning stations. We only caught the end of this one, but the staff was super welcoming and Leighton loved making her own craft parfleche. Attingham Park! A new national trust for us. And I picked this one as a half way stopping point whilst on our way up to North Wales in the Easter half term! So I have a lot of things to show you. And I’m very excited for that. It’s been one of the best mini breaks this year so far 😉 Anyway, let’s focus on this first stop! Easter trails were still on so we did this around the property. We went inside the house, and wow. What a stunning house. and the main hall was like being in an art gallery. We made our way down to the kitchen where they had volunteers actually cooking traditionally - methods and recipe for Welsh cakes, and we got to try some freshly backed warm Welsh cakes! Mam Tor ⛰️ A Saturday well spent hiking in the Peak District. Mam Tor is known for having a relatively easy and short ascent. We decided to extend our walk with the circular route. Walking from Mam Tor to Hollins Cross and descending down to Blue John Cavern and back towards the start of Mam Tor. This route is only approx. 3 miles, with steep, uneven paths and steps in most places. 📍Hope Valley S33 8WA - National trust parking nearby. ❗️take note that this is a very popular walk from sunrise to sunset, and parking is very limited. Do not park on the double yellows even if someone else has because we saw over 100 cars getting parking fines.

“In Alaska, you can go out your door and be in a completely different world.” ~ Bear Grylls I have always wanted to go to Alaska. I am excited to announce that my kids and I will take an EPIC Road Trip from New York to Alaska. On June 6th, we will hit the road and head to Alaska. Suppose I were driving straight through it would take about three days. However, my partner is a school teacher and can’t take this drive with us, so we will take our time getting there (I figure 9 days). We will stay in the States as long as we can. Staying in the States gives us more opportunities to get out of the car and stop at kid-friendly places. We have memberships with ASTC (Association of Science and Technology Centers), AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums), and ACM (Association of Children’s Museums). Each association has a list of museums and zoos/aquariums that we can get into for free or at a discounted rate (usually 50%) across the States. Our ASTC membership is global so that we can use it in other countries. Please join us on this EPIC Road Trip. Follow along for the planning process, tips, tricks, and advice. On June 6, 2024, we will start our journey from New York to Alaska and Alaska back to New York. I know this isn’t easy, but it will be worth it.
