Inside the home is an antique TV which seems to only broadcast the worst human atrocities from history. Not for the faint hearted. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Left Hand by Paul Curran I have no idea what was going on, either because the book was terrible or I'm stupid. Probably the latter. ⭐⭐ Plague of Gulls by Stephen Gregory This is a strange one about an 18 year old guy who loses the end of his finger in an accident, his weird relationships with his stepdad and a young seagull, and his coming to terms with the death of his father. It feels like the tension is constantly building and something really bad is about to happen. The Fear of 13 by Nick Yarris (2016) I came across Nick Yarris by accident when Youtube auto played a podcast with him on it. His story was so incredible and heartbreaking that I bought his book straight away. Basically he was convicted of murder and spent 22 years on death row until DNA evidence finally proved his innocence. After all the terrible things he went through, he came out on the other side an inspiring, and downright decent fella, so I'm looking forward to reading this one. He saw in a flash that there was this metamorphosis of who I was to become once I walked up a simple set of stairs. Recent message came to us about a woman in California who spent 4+ hours with Nick. She took #nickyarris to a thrift store, got him this nice leather jacket(he’s sporting here these days) and $300 worth of clothing. Nick promised her that he would help her husband by teaching him about Neuroplasticity as Nick professes he has helped millions, that would heal her husband. Nick can’t even heal himself. He’s homeless, penniless, and full of himself. This woman took all the clothing home to wash them for Nick and then her very depressed husband folded Nicks laundry. Then a huge box of clean clothes were then delivered back to Nick at the RV he was staying in FOR FREE, at her elderly disabled friends house. He was only released when requesting his execution be stepped up! New technologies allowing testing dna which ment he was finally freed. And yet despite having 20 years of his life stolen, this man was full of love and compassion ❤️ and he put a lot on this book. I'm never any good at reading religious texts, nor anything resembling them. But this book reduced me to tears on a couple of occasions 🙏 a truly beautiful and enlightening read. What can I really say about this book? Nick Yarris is on death row, and has been for over two decades, he was innocent. but charged with the death sentence for raping and murdering a young woman, a young woman who he had never even met. This books takes us through his life on death row, through escaping, through excelling, and through heartbreak and beatings. This story is truly terrible. How someone can go through everything that Nick did, and still be a nice person at the end of it all, and have compassion for others is beyond me. The story of Nick Yarris is devastating, you will feel anger and frustration towards law enforcement and how he was treated. Mr Yarris has done excellent job in narrating and telling his story. He is one of the best storytellers I have heard. While the story is tragic, the documentary is thrilling, fascinating and captivating. It is hard to imagine a life the way Mr Yarris experienced it. The Fear of 13: The unbelievable true story of former death row inmate Nick Yarris. This is a Netflix true crime documentary where Yarris himself narrates the story. From start to finish, every detail of every dramatic ordeal of which become increasingly harder to believe as the story progresses. As hard as it may be to believe, his story has been corroborated. It’s the early 1980’s. It starts with stealing cars to support a drug habit. Which leads to a serious altercation with a police officer in which he’s charged with multiple felonies and facing life in prison. But it gets much worse. Charged and convicted for the rape and murder of Linda Mae Craig, a woman he had never met. Sentenced to die. Over 20 years on death row, asking the courts to cease all appeals and execute him, the birth of DNA in forensics and escaping from custody. I’m probably forgetting some important events. It’s unfathomable what this man went through. His emotions are raw and with good reason. Being sentenced to death for a crime he didn’t commit. He tells his story so well. Yes, Yarris was guilty of several non violent crimes but he is not a murderer and he definitely didn’t deserve the repercussions to the crimes he wasn’t responsible for but found guilty of. Η αλήθεια είναι πως δε περίμενα ποτέ ότι ένας άνθρωπος ο οποίος έχει εκτίσει 21 χρόνια την εσχάτη των ποινών (θανατική ποινή), για ένα έγκλημα που δεν έκανε ποτέ, θα μπορούσε να έχει κάτι μέσα του πέρα από οργή, μίσος ή έχθρα για τους ανθρώπους. Ποσό μάλλον, να έχει το ψυχικό σθένος να υποστηρίζει ότι στο τέλος “Good is going to win”. . Από τη φωνή και τα μάτια του καταλαβαίνεις αμέσως ότι αυτός ο άνθρωπος έχει ζήσει τα χειρότερα που θα μπορούσε να ζήσει ποτέ άνθρωπος. Είναι εξαιρετικά δύσκολο να βλέπεις τόσο πόνο και παράπονο μαζεμένο στα μάτια ενός άντρα. . 11 άνθρωποι αυτοκτόνησαν μπροστά του, βασανιζόταν επι 20 χρόνια κάθε μέρα στις χειρότερες φυλακές της Αμερικής, πέρασε τα 2 πρώτα χρόνια της ποινής του σε απόλυτη σιωπή (οποίος άνοιγε το στόμα του, τον ξυλοκοπούσαν μέχρι να χάσει τις αισθήσεις του), πέθαινε από ηπατίτιδα έπειτα από άγριο ξυλοδαρμό του μέσα στη φυλακή και στο τέλος, 20 χρόνια μετά και αφότου είχε αποδειχθεί η αθωότητα του μετά από τεστ DNA, δε τον αφήνανε να φύγει από τη φυλακή επειδή φοβόντουσαν. Πίστευαν ότι δεν υπήρχε περίπτωση να μη γυρίσει να τους εκδικηθεί μετά απ όσα του έχουν κάνει.. αυτές και άλλα πολλές, πολύ πιο ακραίες ιστορίες, διηγείταικ ο ίδιος στο Documentary του στο Netflix “The fear of 13”. . Αν θα σου πρότεινα ποτέ να δεις κάτι σε ταινία ή documentary, τότε είναι αυτό το documentary. Ο λόγος που στo προτείνω?
