Pod wpływem chwili Maria decyduje się wsiąść na pokład przemytnika czekolady kapitana Hendersona. Między nimi rodzi się zakazane uczucie, w końcu Maria wywodzi się z wyższych sfer, a Henderson jest kryminalistą. Oboje muszą odpowiedzieć sobie na pytanie czy są wstanie zmienić swoje życie oraz poglądy i poddać się sile rozwijającego się uczucia? Tak jakoś się złożyło, że „Na gwiaździstych morzach” wpadło w moje ręce. Nie żałuję; fajna książka, aczkolwiek nie zrobiła na mnie wielkiego wrażenia. Powieść jest fikcją historyczną i część bohaterów żyła kiedyś naprawdę. Jednak z tego co się orientuję, autorka w dużej mierze poddała się swojej wyobraźni i stworzyła własną interpretację życia Marii Graham. I wyszło jej to naprawdę dobrze!
