BOOK REVIEW - THE RADIO HOUR by @victoriapurmanauthor ———————- This is my second Victoria Purman book (my first was A Woman’s Work) and it has cemented for me how fantastic she is at bringing Australia’s past to life. Particularly women’s social history. This book follows the story of Martha Berry, an anomaly in her community for reaching the age of 50 in 1950s Australia and never having married. She is also a woman in a man’s world (namely ABC radio) facing the daily challenge of having more skills than the men around her but ignored and passed over year after year. The story starts when the ABC launches a new radio serial called As The Sun Sets with a young male straight from university as the writer and producer. Martha is employed as his secretary and she quickly realises this guy has no skills whatsoever to get this job done. As he drinks himself into oblivion dad after day, Martha starts writing the scripts, hiring the actors and running the whole show in a bid to save the project. This book gives Lessons In Chemistry vibes and is a spotlight on the misogyny that held women down in the workplace and society. But she does it with a charm, humour and hope that makes her books so unique and warm. I loved this book so much!

𝓡𝓮𝓿𝓲𝓮𝔀 Title: Do no harm Author: @jackjordan_author Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Comments: A real edge of your seat read! There was absolutely no waiting around for the drama. I was hooked from the start. The first 50 pages or so were executed really well and built up to the first omg moment. The whole book flowed seamlessly after that and was compelling. The characterisation was so good, particularly Margot. I genuinely felt as though I knew her and had experienced all sides of her. You’ll flit between loving and hating her! Short chapters. Need I say anymore. Loved the added illustrations at each chapter. The time stamping was also really effective. It definitely added suspense and made it feel more real and surgical! One thing I liked about the writing in this book was the use of descriptive language. I sometimes feel I can guess the ends of sentences or predict a metaphor that’s coming but I didn’t find that in this book which was really refreshing as a reader! Motyw dark academy połączony z egzorcystami i demonami, okraszony dawką dobrego humoru - to wszystko dostaniecie w tej książce. Dodatkowo cudowny slow burn, który naprawdę jest slow burnem. Ja w pewnym momencie nie wiedziałam czy mam jakieś omamy czy naprawdę coś do siebie czują. Leaf Young to młoda dziewczyna pracująca w nowojorskim barze. Dziwnym zbiegiem okoliczności wraz z przyjaciółkami udały się do pubu pełnego demonów. Zauroczona pewnym mężczyzną nie zdaje sobie sprawy, że balansuje na cienkiej granicy pomiędzy życiem a śmiercią. Szybko okazuje się, że mężczyzna nie jest tym za kogo się podaje. Gdy rano budzi się w zupełnie nieznanym miejscu, dociera do niej co tak naprawdę się wydarzyło. W jej wnętrzu znajduje się demon imieniem Lore, któremu dziewczyna siłą woli nie pozwoliła na całkowite opętanie. Falco, bezwzględny egzorcysta nie wierzy w ani jedno słowo Leaf. Uznają ją za demona mimo, iż dziewczyna zapiera się, że nim nie jest. W końcu dostrzegają jej zbyt człowiecze zachowanie. I uwaga, postanawiają wyszkolić ją na egzorcystę. Kobieta, w której ciele jest demon zostaje wysłana do Akademii Black Bird. Inni adepci nie przyjmują jej tam z otwartymi ramionami, widzą w niej zagrożenie i ciągle oskarżają o każdy wypadek. Człowiek i miód 🍯🐝 Mleko, masło (a czasami jakiś tłuszcz), miód, jajko i nieraz soda. Smakuje? No gdzie. Nawet samo czytanie o tym połączeniu boli. A wyobraźcie sobie, że w dzieciństwie to był mój naturalny lek na walkę z kaszlem, bólem gardła. Dostawałam kubek tej mieszanki, siadałam nad nim i zaczynałam płakać. Mama zawsze powtarzała: "A wypij tak na raz. Raz i już". Finalnie tak właśnie robiłam, ale nigdy nie polubiłam tego napoju. Może to dla tego moje relacje z miodem były takie se. Pokusiłabym się nawet o stwierdzenie: nie lubiłyśmy się. A jeśli dodam, że co najmniej kilka razy w dzieciństwie użądliła mnie pszczoła, to chyba nic dziwnego, że szansy na związek z miodem nie było. Ogólnie mierził mnie już sam zapach. Minęło sporo czasu. Na szczęście już nie musiałam pić tego dziwnego mleka z tłuszczem, jajkiem i miodem. A mój stosunek do miodu zaczął powoli się zmieniać. Droga od nienawiści do miłości wcale nie była jednym krokiem, ale dłuższą wyprawą, którą ostatecznie odbyłam. Obecnie miodek jest moim ulubionym towarzyszem dnia powszedniego. Owsianka z miodem, herbatka z miodem i cytryną, a czasami pojawia się też w kawie. Odkryłam, że każdy miód pachnie inaczej. I co ciekawe, nic innego na świecie nie przypomina tego zapachu. I w sumie tyle. Pewnie dla wielu to nic nie wnoszący post, a wiecie, po co ja go pisałam? Ostatnio otworzyłam nowy słoik miodu, powąchałam i ten zapach był tak dobry, tak piękny, że chciałabym go zapamiętać. Ale jak? Jak zapamiętać, zachować zapach na dłużej? Nie chcę stać się Jean-Baptiste Grenouille'm z "Pachnidła". Swoją drogą zaczynam rozumieć chłopa 😁 A więc stwierdziłam, że najlepszą drogą na zachowanie wspomnień, smaków, zapachów jest pisanie o nich. i’ve had a lot of time to read recently (ty vacay) & have been on quite the romance roll. this magical little story transports you to nyc & had me dyingggg to revisit. the city vibes were immaculate. clementine was easy to root for & fall in love with. she was a woman trying to work through her grief by doing everything but work through her grief. i admired her voice & enjoyed watching her find herself (and maybe a little love) in this magical manhattan summer. iwan was the perfect complement. and when he called her lemon? swoon. the time travel element was the perfect fantastical cherry on top. this is a perfect romance to devour in the summer or on vacation. delectably sweet and tart, just like a lemon pie. hehe okay, that was cheesy, but just go with it 🍋 lol *second pic is my current favorite hyperfixation activity—pinterest collages

In 2017, I decided I’d read more. I got a super expensive speeding ticket in Virginia and was pretty much broke after paying it. So, instead of spending my senior year of med school traveling, I read the books on my shelf. I started doodling and painting a bit to pay off the ticket. I started talking about books a little bit on my Instagram page. You all see where that’s gone. Once a little money came my way again, I signed up for the First Editions Club at @lemuriabooks, my famous local independent bookstore. They picked the signed book of the month, set it aside for me wrapped up all fancy, I pick it up, and I read it. I’m not exaggerating even a little bit when I say that it changed my life. I started seeing how many cool signed books they get in, and I started my own collection, which you’ve seen a lot of here on my page. They plugged me in with local newspapers for reviews. They’ve had a million great events where I’ve been able to meet my favorite authors. They feel like part of my extended family at this point. Here are a few books that I read thanks to Lemuria providing me access to them, signed by the author. I’ve learned to love so many authors I wouldn’t have read without their introducing me. @lemuriabooks is largely responsible slash to blame for the chaotic Bookstacontent you get here. I’d love it if you went on their website and got a book from them! They are the best. Their books are cared for deeply, their contents even more so. What’s your favorite local independent bookshop?

𝑪𝒖𝒓𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒅 🐈⬛🕸️🐾🐦⬛ What is your favourite animal? And what non human person in your life impacted you the most? Aké je vaše obľúbené zviera? A aká nie ľudská osoba na vás zanechala najväčšiu stopu? 🐈⬛🕸️🐾🐦⬛ 🇬🇧 My favourite animals are actually a top three, since I can never decide which I like most: penguins, ladybugs and jellyfish. But I need to do a special shoutout for eels and cats. 🤭 As for a non human person that impacted me the most I am also picking three. One of the pigs we had when I was a child - Peťko, who is the reason for me not wanting to consume nor touch flesh as food ever again. I loved you you big clumsy baby. 🥹 And the other two is our current cat duo - Cyprián and Zeus. They are my light and my everything and I am oh so thankful for their existence every single day. Cypi is the best rest parner (we are cuddling as I am typing this rn) and Zeus the best mischevius little brat one could wish for, making me laugh every day. 🥹 Like some people are motivated by their human children to go on, these two are my reason. 🇸🇰 Moje obľúbené zviera neviem uviesť inak ako top trojku, keďže sa nikdy neviem rozbodnúť, ktoré mám najradšej: tučniaky, lienky a medúzy. A musím spomenúť aj úhorov a mačky. 🤭 A pokiaľ sa jedná o nie ľudské osoby, zasa raz spomínam tri. Jedno z prasiat, ktoré sme chivali keď som bola malá - Peťko, ktorý je dôvod, prečo sa už naveky odmietam dotknúť mäsa ako jedla, nieto ho ešte konzumovať. Ľúbila som ťa ty ťarbavé bábo. 🥹 A potom je tu naše duo mačiakov - Cyprián a Zeus. Oni dvaja sú moje svetlo, moje všetko a som každý deň tak niesmierne vďačná za to, že existujú. Cypi je najlepší odpočinkový parťák (aj teraz ako toto píšem sa túlime) a Zeus je ten najúžasnejší výmyselný nezbedník, akého si dokáže človek priať, ktorý ma každý deň rozosmieva. 🥹 Tak ako niekoho motivujú vytrvať ľudské ratolesti, pre mňa sú tým dôvodom títo dvaja.

If only I had told her by Laura Nowlin is the second book after If he had been with me. I loved the first book and it ripped me to shreds so I already knew this one wouldn’t be as devastating/good so I was prepared. I was correct as always 🤪, the first book I could barely put down and finished it in about a day but this took me over a week because I couldn’t get into it. Yes, it is sad and I loved seeing Jack’s perspective which I didn’t expect but it felt a bit too dragged on for me. It is heartbreaking to see Autumn go through pregnancy alone without Finn but besides that, the rest of it seems to be fluff for substance and chapters. I knew I should have stopped at the first book because I loved it so much but I couldn’t help myself and I regret it because now the ratings for the series goes down for me. It was just okay, a decent read but not even comparable to the first book, which was devastating and beautiful in all the right ways. REZENSION: selbst gekauft Camden Daniels kehrt zurück nach Alba seiner Heimatstadt in Colorado um seinem kranken Vater zu helfen. Cam hat sich vorgenommen Willow aus dem Weg zu gehen und auf Abstand zu halten auch wenn sie die Liebe seines Lebens ist. Die Vergangenheit ist einfach zu groß und wirft auch jetzt noch seine Schatten auf das Leben beider. Willow hält gar nichts davon sich von Cam fernzuhalten, als sie sich mit der Zeit wieder näher kommen stellt sie sich auch in der Öffentlichkeit hinter ihn auch wenn das alles zerstören könnte was ihnen wichtig ist. Um dieses Buch bin ich wirklich seit Monaten (seit Ankündigung für das Buch mit Klappentext) herumgeschlichen und habe es mir dann in der Buchhandlung meines Vertrauens gekauft. Da ich die anderen Bücher der Autorin nicht gelesen habe einfach weil ich sehr ungern Fantasy lese auch wenn es eine Liebesgeschichte ist. Hier hatte mich die Buchbeschreibung sofort angesprochen und so habe ich voller Neugier zu lesen begonnen. Es geht hier um die Geschichte von Camden und Willow, doch dies ist zu wenig denn auch die schwierigen Familienverhältnisse von Camden wird aufgearbeitet und ganz ehrlich sie ist mehr als nur etwas kompliziert. Die Art wir mit Cam umgegangen wird was nicht schön zu lesen und ja es war wirklich eine Reise die man mit ihm durchlebt bis man wirklich alles erfahren hat. Willow ist sich ihrer Gefühle mehr als Sicher und doch hat sie es lange Zeit vermieden sich ihnen zu stellen, nun ist Cam zurück und sie weiß genau was sie möchte und ist bereit auch dafür zu kämpfen. ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️
