I might be 38 years old, but I still allow myself to enjoy a good YA fantasy novel. Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake was a nice break from adult fiction. Triplets Mirabella, Katherine, and Arsinoe are magical queens who are at odds and competing to become THE queen. Mirabella is an 💨elemental🔥who can control weather and fire. Katherine is a ☠️poisoner☣️ who can consume lethal amounts of poison. Arsinoe is a 🌱naturalist🐻, and her gift allows her to grow and bloom plants and control animals. The competition begins on Beltane, where the queens exhibit the strength of their gifts to the people of Fennbirn and the king-consort suitors who get a chance to woo them. By the next Beltane, there should be only one queen after murdering her sisters. This novel is the story of their preparation and the events of that first Beltane. I saw the twist at the end of the novel coming after reading the first few chapters, and I was okay with that. I know which queen I am rooting for, so I have already started the second book, One Dark Throne. Une seule des triplées pourra monter sur le trône, il n'est pas question de perdre à un jeu, c'est une question de vie ou de mort. Les soeurs ont un an à compter de leur 16 ème anniversaire pour réussir à éliminer les 2 autres. Complots, secrets, trahisons, et magie nuancent cette saga. Tous les moyens sont bons pour tenter d'éliminer l'autre et on adore car elles ne font pas semblant. Trois points de vue sur chacune de nos 3 reines. Dans cette histoire, on n'est jamais sûr de rien , vous ne saurez jamais vraiment laquelle des 3 reines vous préfèrerez . On croit en aimer une pour arriver à un plot twist et remettre en cause notre existence 😅 Une guerre terrible et impitoyable jusqu'à la mort, c'est une dark fantasy où rien n'est rose et les personnages sont aussi bien machiavéliques que tendres; à savoir que dans cette histoire, ne vous fiez pas à ce que vous pensez savoir 😜 La romance n'est pas le centre mais chacune des sœurs à un love interest qui est tout de même assez présent. Dernier livre lu en Mars, "Three dark crowns" de Kendare Blake 📖 Enthousiastes devant la sortie de la collection "Magik" des éditions @leha.editions , la seule question existentielle que @charlotte_aux_livres_tricote et moi nous posions était : par lequel commencer ? 😱 Et la question a été vite répondue (oui, on a les réf qu'on peut 😁), on a dégainé les couronnes 👑 Et nous nous sommes retrouvées sur l'étrange île de Fennbirn sur laquelle des triplées, filles de la reine et séparées pendant leur enfance, ont chacune été élevées dans un coin du territoire. Entraînées pendant 10 ans à développer des pouvoirs spécifiques, leur but est d'éliminer leurs sœurs durant leur seizième année. Car il ne peut en rester qu'UNE ! ☝️ Ici, point de poteaux ou de dégustation de ver (quoi que...) mais le pouvoir des éléments avec Mirabella, la violence du poison avec Katharine et l'imprévisibilité de la nature avec Arsinoé. Sans compter les manœuvres politiques des différents entourages, les diverses sensibilités et objectifs cachés des reines, et les surprises et révélations distillées par l'autrice 😳 Un peu confuse au début de l'histoire avec les multiples personnages qui gravitent autour des héroïnes et qui me semblaient parfois peu differenciables, pas toujours convaincue par certains passages romantiques, j'ai finalement passé un très chouette moment de lecture au fur et à mesure de l'avancée de l'histoire. [AVIS LECTURE] ⭐️⭐️⭐️ J’ai lu « Queens of Fennbirn », écrit par Kendare Blake et publié aux éditions Leha. Quand j’ai appris la sortie de ce livre, j’étais vraiment curieuse. Cependant, en le trouvant en librairie, je l’ai trouvé très court et aussi découvert qu’il regroupait seulement deux nouvelles. La première concerne, la jeunesse des reines. La seconde concerne le passé de l’île, notamment le règne d’une reine Oracle. Globalement, j’ai vraiment plus apprécié la seconde nouvelle. Car la première n’apporte en réalité pas grand-chose. Toutefois, pour les personnes ayant apprécié la saga, la seconde nouvelle est vraiment intéressante à découvrir. Mas quanto ao terceiro… Olha, fiquei meio decepcionada. ➡️ Pra mim, aconteceram algumas coisas meio nada a ver, os personagens tiveram atitudes sem nexo, enfim, a narrativa se perdeu, sabe? Já não tinha mais aquele ar de livro viciaaante. Foi uma leitura mais lenta. O quarto e último livro eu gostei um pouco mais, o final me deixou relativamente satisfeita. Mas de maneira geral, os dois primeiros foram os melhores, e eu AMEI ambos, então os livros 3 e 4 amargaram muito meu sentimento em relação à série. 📖 É uma leitura que eu recomendo, mas se você não liga muito para finais abertos, aconselho fortemente que leia os livros 1 e 2 e pare por aí KKKKKK, finge que a história terminou assim mesmo. I can’t quite explain why, but the writing of this period is SO distinct. Like you can literally spot it anywhere and this book was no exception. In the first few pages, I was smacked in the face with tumblr-loaded-nostalgia and a healthy dose of Y/N tragedy. It was fantastic! Across the book, we had a few ratty teen romances, a malevolent ruling party and a mistaken identity subplot to boot! But even these goodies couldn’t save Blake’s blunder of a story. So let’s move on to the next section. 🪦 What I disliked It shocks me that Blake was able to take such a thrilling plot, and turn it into the most boring and drawn out affair. Three Dark Crowns, Tome 0.5 : Queens of Fennbirn - Kendare Blake 🍓 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 📖 Leha Young Adult ✨️ J’avais très envie de lire ces deux nouvelles depuis longtemps. Sorties en 2018, elles ont été traduites en français cette année. À l’intérieur, on retrouve “The Oracle Queen”, histoire d’une ancienne reine et “The Young Queens” qui nous montre l’enfance de nos trois reines que l’on retrouve adultes dans la saga principale. Je trouve que c’est un très bon complément aux quatre tomes de la saga. On a toujours du mal à fermer la dernière page d’une bonne saga, à dire au revoir aux personnages, et ce genre de format permet aux lecteurs de savourer un peu plus cet univers. J’ai beaucoup aimé en savoir plus sur nos trois reines, surtout leur naissance ainsi que leur éducation au Cottage Noir. C’est intéressant de voir comment leur caractère a pu évoluer, et quelle tournure a pris la suite. Il y avait des événements qui sont très vite mentionnés dans la saga principale et ces nouvelles répondent aux questions suspendues. Happy Sunday 🌿 What are you looking forward to this week? I am looking forward to time with family, finishing off a season of Hell’s Kitchen, & doing some baking. I’ve been on a brownie kick recently and want to keep that going. Reading wise I want to read The Atlas Complex by Olive Blake, A Drop of Venom by Sajni Patel, and Fatty Fatty Boom Boom by Rabia Chaudry before the end of the month, so I’m hoping to get to some of those soon. I’m also looking forward to tidying up my shelves because they are, once again, getting a little busy. I have a fe books out of place, as well as random book merch scattered allover. I wish my shelves were always in pristine condition, but more often they look like this at best. Happy reading all ✨

Desafortunadamente, tal idea no se explotó como tanto deseaba, sino todo lo contrario. Sentí que faltaba un “no sé qué” en la historia que terminaba por convencerme de que había algo qué probablemente la autora había olvidado, tal vez era el hecho que desde la mitad del libro comenzó a expresar una evidente preferencia hacia una de las hermanas, quitándole importancia al par restante, a quienes siento que no pude conocer y que tenían mucho más que ofrecerme. Hablando del romance, las parejas “destinadas” a las princesas me parecieron vagas, sin ningún trasfondo que explicara la relación; tan pronto las veían y ya estaban perdidamente enamorados de ellas, no había desarrollo ni parece que lo habrá en un futuro porque desde un inicio todo ya está consumado. La verdad no estoy segura de leer la continuación, pues si hay algo que no me gusta son los sentimientos vacíos y carentes de sentido. Ahora, tampoco todo me pareció perdido. La ambientación de algunas escenas fue bastante buena, además de que la información y uno que otro giro argumental fue suficiente como para mantenerme entretenida la mayor parte del libro. Por ello decidí darle 3 estrellas, y también por que la idea general me pareció estupenda aunque, repito, me habría encantado que hubiera sido explotada y no reducida a un libro más de romance forzado. ¿Lo recomiendo? Sí, a pesar de que no es algo fuera de lo común. Three Dark Crowns definitely scratched that itch for me! I know many folks on Goodreads said they found it boring and slow, but I felt like the story was so compelling and it kept me going, and I appreciated the narration on the audiobook! Things I liked: - The plot! Hands down one of the most interesting ones I’ve seen in a while. - The character development of each of the sisters - by the end they have grown so much! Some for the better, some not so much - That ending cliffhanger; the way I gasped 😳 Things I wasn’t a fan of: - Sometimes it was hard keeping track of which perspective we were hearing, especially in the audiobook - Initially it is a little hard to get into because you jump right into the story - we get some world-building, but I would’ve appreciated more.
