~Nightbloom~ . . . . Akorfa And Selasi grew up in a small town of Ghana, Ho. While destiny brought better future prospects for Akorfa when her family moved to Accra, Selasi's future was not shining bright. Once inseparable cousins are now miles apart. But as they enter their teens, Selasi begins to change and the years of gap created rift in their relationship, until Akorfa barely recognises the sulken, withdrawn girl she once knew so well. Years go by before they cross paths again. Life has changed but as fate has other plans, forcing both women to confront and heal each other's past traumas. Now they must bridge the gulf between them to stop history repeating itself. "Nightbloom" is a contemporary, coming of age, domestic fiction that explores the intricate life of Ghanaian people while still keeping it true to the main characters. I absolutely adore domestic fictions that addresses the issues of our society in modern contemporary situations. This book did a lovely job on that note. It slowly weaves the tale of two cousins entrapped in the eternal labyrinth of societal judgments, racism and favouritism. This addresses the problems faced by people of colour especially if they have unprivileged background. As much as it's a plot driven book, it's a character driven book as well. We get to see dynamic character sketches mirroring our society. One of the remarkable character sketches is Akorfa's mother. I liked how progessive she was on her views but eventually failed because of peer pressure, she failed to stand by her own daughter when she needed her the most. A wonderfully crafted narrative builds a remarkable story to remember. Here the writing is the jewel in the crown. Even though it got draggy at times it held up pretty good throughout the book. Quality of the writing is also good. Loved the cover design as well. Recommended to domestic fiction lovers. My Rating: 4.5/5

✨Book Review!✨ TUESDAY NIGHTS IN 1980 by Molly Prentiss Even though this book sounded interesting, it unfortunately fell flat for me. The prologue of this book was probably what I liked the most and it was a real bummer for me that that introductory plot line had pretty much nothing to do with the rest of the book. I liked the mixed writing style approach that the author took, but ultimately this book moved so slowly, that I lost interest fairly quickly. The first 25% of the book really only described one character’s synesthesia, which is a cool idea for the book, but was so long-winded that I was asking myself “Okay, what’s next?” The characters were not likable to me and all their own versions of pretentious and proud artsy individuals, despite the fact that they were all “up and coming”. Engales seems to have the most character depth and goes through the most change, but that feels more related to the circumstances that were thrust onto him as opposed to an intrinsic need to change. The novel took too long to show how the character stories overlapped in a meaningful way and even when it did, I had already run out of energy. While the premise of following characters in the NYC art scene in the 80s sounded like a really cool idea, I didn’t think this book really ended up showcasing the art world all that much. I even tried to DNF this, but I was so deep in that I ended up just finishing it out so I didn’t have FOMO. Ultimately, I think it was just not for me! My rating: 1⭐️ PS: I thought a lot about writing a negative review of a book I didn’t enjoy. This is a place for my opinions about the books I read, both good and bad, and that’s why I decided that even if I don’t enjoy a book I will still give it an honest review! #bookreview #reviewsofbooks #bookreviewer #bookreviewersofinstagram #bookstagram #book #books #bookworm #booksbooksbooks #read #reading #igreads #booklover #fortheloveofreading #bookish #bookstagramcommunity #bookstagrammer #bookstoread #becauseofreading #unitedbookstagram #ilovereading #bookworm #bookwormlife #bookstack #bookshelf #tuesdaynightsin1980

Selected Short Stories by Rabindranath Tagore is a collection of some of Tagore's best stories that he has ever written. It features thirteen of the Novel Laureate's best creations with distinct underlying themes that will evoke a sense of nostalgia and pride among the Bengalis. But in its translated form, this collection offers a medium to experience Tagore's famous stories like 'Ksudhita Pashan' (The Hungry Stones), 'Cabuliwallah' (The Pedlar from Kabul), 'Joy Porajoy' (The Victory), 'Asambhava Katha' (Once There Was A King) and many more in English. While in my childhood, I had listened to these stories when my mother used to tell me all about them but I, myself, never got to experience these stories in my own language. So, whilst I couldn't experience the nostalgia, I could notice the depth of emotions with which Tagore wrote in my now adult age. Tagore had always owned a lyrical poetic style of narration (which most likely came from his ability to compose poetry and songs) and this has been carried forward even in this translated compilation. He was known to have been ahead of his time and it's evident in the way he tackles themes of love, relationships, freedom, power/powerlessness, self-identity and societal issues. Thank you @srishtipub for sending me a copy! 💜✨ ✨QOTD: What does your average day look like?✨ For me it's working, then finding some time to read, creating content for booksta in advance, eating and sleeping 😂

Set in the mid nineteenth century, this series follows the mysteries that Mrs Laetitia Rodd finds herself involved in. I haven't read the previous two books but this one seems to work well enough as a standalone, though I enjoyed it enough to want to read its predecessors at some point. Mrs Rodd, widow of a clergyman, finds herself in the later stages of her life, taking on the role of private detective. In this book, she is entreated by a neighbour to help with settling an issue among two of his close friends, a husband and wife from the theatre crowd who are undergoing a separation following the husband's scandalous infidelity. In what starts off as a simple matter of negotiation between the two parties, Mrs Rodd becomes closely acquainted with the Transome family and their dramas. But very soon, matters turn more sinister as a burnt corpse is discovered in an abandoned building and old events get pulled up from the past to be re-examined. This was actually quite a fun book to read, more for the characters than the mystery itself. It had many twists and turns, and though I was able to guess some of them beforehand, it was on the whole well written, all the drama to do with the theatre folk adding a certain amount of flair to the story. Mrs Rodd makes for an interesting narrator, with her droll observations, and though we don't really learn much about her as a character (which seems in keeping with some of the narrators in books of this genre), the other characters were very well defined. The pacing was quite decent, despite lagging slightly here and there, and the mystery, though nothing groundbreaking, was still an interesting one with lots of revelations. But in the end, like I mentioned before, it was the characters that stole the show. I'm looking forward to reading the first two books in the series and was wondering if there will be more but just discovered that, sadly, the author passed away last year. My rating - 4.25⭐️ Thanks for the book @definitelybooks

My 💭s: This story is at times tough to read. I did not like how the church where this family belonged to treated women. They were made to be a housewife and a mother and they couldn't ever think of being something else or they would be shunned and treated poorly. I constantly had to remind myself while reading that this was modern times and not like the 1800s. Hope unfortunately had to become the "mom" of her siblings after their mom died. When a woman comes seeking their church and then becomes her stepmother, she begins to see what a life outside this church would be and she is conflicted but curious. She battles with herself all the time and after her stepmother realizes that she doesn't want to belong to this place...Hope's world changes drastically and, I felt, never for the better until she got out. When I created my bookstagram account seven years ago one of the first books I featured was The Post-office girl by Stefan Zweig. I genuinely liked the book and expressed desire to read more by the author. Well, it took seven years but here we are. Beware of Pity is, in general, too long, melodramatic, repetitive in theme and overwrought. However, something about Zweig’s elegant prose and sharp insight made these flaws forgivable. I enjoyed this book despite its flaws and I hope it won’t be another seven years before I read this author again. “There are two kinds of pity. One, the weak and sentimental kind, which is really no more than the heart’s impatience to be rid as quickly as possible of the painful emotion aroused by the sight of another’s unhappiness..; and the other, the only kind that counts, the unsentimental but creative kind, which knows what it is about and is determined to hold out, in patience and forbearance, to the very limit of its strength and even beyond.” #tbr24in24 ~~~ #knjige #reading #bookstagramfeature #bookstagrammer #reader #lovereading #bookstagram #read #readeveryday #unitedbookstagram #whatiread #booklove #bookscoffeelifestyle #allthebooks #bookworld #bibliophile #booklover #bookaddict #bookishlove #fortheloveofreading #booknerd #stefanzweig #bewereofpity

A huge to thank you @pridebooktours and @theoblue.jpg for a #gifted #paperback copy of #Homebody, this is one that I could not wait to read! Plus, just yesterday, we were gifted the audiobook through @NetgalleyUK by @PanMacmillan! Thank you!!! I found myself re-reading the story twice and then a third time with the hour-long audiobook alongside, which is an absolute blessing to just add to the experience of the story! The book is just graphically and visually stunning with beautiful illustrations and gorgeous calligraphy, plus the narration by Roly Botha is phenomenal! I found myself falling in love with every aspect of this book! I really enjoyed reading/listening about Theo’s life and their ability to be open about their experiences. I feel that Theo highlighted a lot of issues throughout this book, such as the demands from schools on uniform and ensuring that each pupil has the same formal wear, which really does affect children and young adults more than those making the rules realise, not every pupil feels comfortable wearing what the school heads deem as “uniform” Also, there are many times Theo hits the nail on the head with how society and the world desperately tries to label individuals and squeeze them into boxes, and unfortunately with these pressures several people feel like they need to confirm, and as such live an unhappy life doing so. As well as how society and people make assumptions on others just based on the outward appearance, such as hair, make up and clothing, but it also reminds the reader and encourages them that these different outward appearances can really have an impact on one's confidence and self-worth. This book just highlights the importance of self-love and feeling at home in one's body The quotes throughout are wonderful and memorable. The story is amazing and empowering, and there is a real sense of personal achievement, confidence, and pride radiating from this novel. I love the support and encouragement that Theo is offering throughout the book, reminding the readers that not everyone is on the same journey in life and that everyone's courses can and will alter with time. *Continued in comments

Here we are at the end of April, I have had a pretty slow reading month this month, but what a month with majority of my reads this month being 5 star reads, that made it tough to choose a ROTM!! I managed to read a book a week, with an audiobook over the month at the same time, for formats; I read 3 digital books, 2 physical book and 1 audio book: o The War of the Mind by Dana Claire on Kindle o The Pact by Lisa Darcy on Kindle o Never Ever Getting Back Together by Sophie Gonzales on Kindle o Homebody by Theo Parish o The Prisoners Throne by Holly Black on Hardback o The Throne of the Fallen by Kerri Maniscalco on Audio I usually find it easier to choose a favourite read when there isn’t that many to choose from, but turns out that 5/6 of these were all brilliant reads, but only just nipping the others to the post because it was brilliantly funny was; Never Ever Getting Back Together by Sophie Gonzales How many did you read in April, what was your ROTM? Hey there Bookstafam! The only thing that makes Monday better - is reading a memorable book - 🎒 Class by @stepville : When Stephanie Land set out to write her memoir Maid, she never could have imagined what was to come. Handpicked by President Barack Obama as one of the best books of 2019, he called it an “unflinching look at America’s class divide…and a reminder of the dignity of all work.” Later, it was adapted into the hit Netflix series Maid, which was viewed by sixty-seven million households and was Netflix’s fourth most-watched show in 2021, garnering three Primetime Emmy Award nominations. Stephanie’s escape out of poverty and abuse in search of a better life inspired millions. Maid was a story about a housecleaner, but it was also a story about a woman with a dream. In Class, Land takes us with her as she finishes college and pursues her writing career. Facing barriers at every turn including a byzantine loan system, food insecurity, the judgments of professors and fellow students who didn’t understand the demands of attending college while under the poverty line—Land finds a way to survive once again, finally graduating in her mid-thirties. Class paints an intimate and heartbreaking portrait of motherhood as it converges and often conflicts with personal desire and professional ambition. Who has the right to create art? Who has the right to go to college? And what kind of work is valued in our culture? In clear, candid, and moving prose, Class grapples with these questions, offering a searing indictment of America’s educational system and an inspiring testimony of a mother’s triumph against all odds.🎒I was so inspired by Maid I couldn’t wait to read Class. I see so much of what I endured in my early years as a single mom and I can appreciate all that Stephanie went through along the way. 📚Did you watch/read Maid? #bookwineandmetime #bookstabuddies📚 #bionicbookbabes #igresds #igbooks #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #booksofig #bibliophile #goodreads #readersofinstagram #unitedbookstagram #bookswithbethany

I don't know when the term smut came to the picture! But, growing up in our school mills and boon was all the rage and one of our teachers would go around seizing them and termed them as "kiss kiss book".😂 . Smut is a term that Instagram has introduced to me. For the longest time there was a lot of guilt that I associated with reading them. For the most part,it's not seen as some serious literary business! 🙄 Whatever that means and the way some people shame you for reading them. . Whatever makes you happy read it. Is what I believe. You do you . . Do you remember the first smut book you ever read ? And how did it make you feel ? Laters xo . . #smut #reading #bookstagram #unitedbookstagram [Books books community literature]

Happy Monday (not a thing lol) Bookstafam! After a great Indie Bookstore weekend - back to the grind. I wanted to share this touching story - ☀️Forces of Nature by @ginadwagner : Gina DeMillo Wagner’s brother Alan had a rare genetic disorder that caused him to veer from loving to violent. When Alan died suddenly, Gina was pulled away from the safety of her adult life and thrust back into a family she has been estranged from for nearly ten years. FORCES OF NATURE follows this rewinding of the past, Gina’s caregiving journey and reckoning with complicated grief, plus Alan’s Christmas-themed funeral, and an investigation into his cause of death. It’s a personal story that asks universal questions: How much of ourselves should we sacrifice to those we love? And, what forces shape our sense of family and home?☀️Release Date: May 14, 2024 - Any exciting plans this week? This coming weekend? #bookwineandmetime #bookstabuddies📚 #bionicbookbabes #igreads #igbooks #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #booksofig #bibliophile #readersofinstagram #unitedbookstagram #bookswithbethany

Bookworms! 😍 I haven't even reached halfway point but this book is a bit more intense than the previous books and the weekend wasn't as full of reading as I had hoped. So I am hoping to finish the book this week? It shouldn't take longer than that, I hope.  😍 The heat is also getting worse day by day, I am genuinely worried about the summer. There's at least the whole of May to worry about. I do not do well with heat or rising temperatures despite living in Mumbai my whole life. 😭😭 😍 #bookblogger #bookreview #bookrecs #bibliophile #bookworms #bookworm #bookstagramming #bookstagram #indianbookstagrammer #booksofinstagram #books📚 #flatlays #bookish #bookstagrammers #unitedbookstagram #readerlife #booknookstagram #bookspines #bookster #bookhoarder #prettybooks #fiction #sciencefiction #sci-fi #spaceopera #suneater #howlingdark #demoninwhite #christopherruocchio

But one perk of working in publishing is that I have only actually bought two of these books. My manager was horrified when I said I hadn't read any of Adele Parks' books and sent me home with two books. A colleague had spare editions of Cold Hearted, and that was quickly added to my pile... and to top it off, we had an in-office giveaway of The Garnett Girls. Now, here I am, a week and bookshop trip later with a fabulous new stack that I don't have enough time to read. I think a book buying ban is in order as I have no way read this many of my physical tbr recently to justify this many new books. But at least this will be my most diverse reading year so far in terms of genre! I can't remember the last time I picked up a thriller! 𝐪𝐨𝐭𝐝 ; How long have you gone before breaking a book buying ban? . . . . . . . . . "Reality makes tunes With new symphony Of many miracles, Each day to vary. Life, a different story." "Rising Petals" deciphers the anxiety of modern human through objects, events, places and phenomena. This collection illustrates the conflict in our minds and strengthens our resolve to stay true to our elements. "Rising Petals" narrates the life of human beings in the form of modern poetry, mixing the real and surreal together. A human life is blessed with its own share of moods, emotions and experiences. The constant struggle of existence is difficult to put down on paper yet we thrive to do better, and feel better. This book is another step to express those simple complexities of what it's called life, just like human emotions. It's a short poetry collection reflecting true nature of life. This book was someting quite different from other poetry books. The writing feels intimate yet it tries to deliver the point to every reader. Poetries are difficult to rate and review. They are intimate to the poet or poetess. For me personally I look into poetry books, the amount of connectedness I feel after reading it. This was a short read for me. Although I can relate with some poems, most didn't go well with me mostly because of the writing. It confused me in areas where the actual meaning of the poem was unclear to me. An okay read for me. My Rating: 3/5

• #romancebooks #contemporarybooks #booktok #libridelbooktok #bookstagram #booklovers #bookishpost #classicbooks #readersofinstagram #unitedbookstagram #bookobsessed #bibliophile #igreads #booksofinstagram #bookgram #bookworm #bookishfeatures #booknerd #bookstagrammer #bookphotography #bookstagramfeature #bookblogger #bookcommunity #bookshelftour #bookshelves #shelvesofinstagram

Half way trough reading this little gem, so much to learn about Greece, the history behind the buildings, the pilgrimages ... the food, and we mustn't forget the olives, even the author had given up in the end and liked them. . ⚔️Before V Now ⚔️ (➡️Swipe for the before) #QOTD what has been your favourite book signing? I am feeling very jealous after seeing everyone’s Apollycon pictures this weekend and I definitely want to start attending more bookish events. But it made me think about the very first book signing I attended in 2008 when I was obsessed with the Spiderwick Chronicles and was lucky enough to meet Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi at my local Waterstones and get my book signed, I can still vividly remember being very awkward and shy 😂 and who knew 16 years later I would still be obsessed with Holly Blacks books! 😍🧝🏻‍♀️✨

It’s been about two years since I moved to London, and all this time, I’ve been thinking: where is my home? Is it here or still in Tehran? The concept of ‘home’ has always been my favorite thing to ponder. I’ve often wondered, what is home and why do we call somewhere home? Two weeks ago, I returned to Tehran, and now that I’m back in London, I can confidently say that here is my home. No matter where you are born and raised, I think home is where you feel safe and happy! Reading update: I couldn’t read much during my holiday. I’ve just started reading ‘Martyr’ by Kaveh Akbar. After spending time in Iran, I feel like I need to read a book by an immigrant Iranian writer. 📚What are you reading? #martyr #kavehakbar #iranianwriter #bookblogger #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #booklover #booklove #home #cozyhome #unitedbookstagram #bookish #booknerd

--- ʜᴀꜱᴛᴀɢꜱ: #boekrensensie #boekstagram #boekstagramnl #iklees #nederlands #boekenliefde #boekenliefdenl #boekenwurm #boeken #lezen #lezenisleuk #leestip #gezelligboekig #detrouwelezer #spannendeboeken #draken #bookstagram #reading #books #bookishlove #unitedbookstagram #welovebooks #booksofinstagram #bookstagramnl #readersofinstagram @yaharpercollins @harpercollins_holland

Molto bello.
