Weekend photo dump running late. Most importantly, we celebrated my favorite human turning 40. It was a great 3 day weekend. Jeff isn’t one for a big party so we celebrated with lots of favorite foods (breakfast at Le Peep, McCallister’s, milkshakes from Freddy’s coffee from Founders, smoothies, lasagna, heath cake (the candles were in the shape of 40), and waffles. Our parents came over to share some cake and satisfy the kids’ requirement for a party. Liz was my waffle helper and just so cute. The kids had Duo Day on Friday. Luke discovered a way to watch siblings play out front. #ourlittletribe
The past week has been a blur of softball games and practices for Meredith, soccer practices for Lizzy, kindergarten roundup for Charlotte, golf practice and soccer games and practices for Ben, piano lessons for the girls, and other normal life things. Luke’s been working on more teeth and plenty of mischief. (There are no pictures of Ben because he’s been so busy) I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s nap already. #ourlittletribe

Last Valentine’s Day I was readmitted to the hospital with post partum preeclampsia 6 days after having Luke. Jeff had to stay with me at all times or I wasn’t allowed to have the baby with me. I was a hormonal wreck. We said this year would be less exciting. Big thanks to my parents for watching Luke while the others were at school so we could go out for lunch and enjoy some down time. The girls all got flowers from daddy and are obsessed. Ben got books, but not the right books, because he’s a tween. It was a good day to celebrate love. Thank you for all the birthday wishes! It was a low key day over here much to Charlee’s dismay. Mostly normal mom things but Jeff made me steak and shrimp for dinner and bought me a light kit I’d asked for, Meredith baked me a delicious cake and decorated it with her sisters, and the kids were willing to try out my new lights. Halloween (part 2) included trick or treating in the season’s first snow flurries. We took a sweet friend of Lizzy’s with us, Ben went off with friends, and there’s way too much sugar in the house. Luke got to stay home warm with daddy. Charlee chose to be a butterfly tonight, but we had to improvise most of the costume as she lost the majority of it and needed bundled up. Happy Halloween (part 1) from the Mandalorian and Grogu, a rainbow unicorn, a fox, and Wednesday. I made the kids take pics yesterday before a Halloween party (and pre snow) and Charlee made a last minute decision to revisit last year’s costume. Meredith was really into her Wednesday character and managed to anger the unicorn by saying she hates color. So we had to rearrange and take the picture again. As of yesterday, soccer season is over. Lizzy and Charlee ended their first seasons on a cold Saturday morning. Lizzy loves defense and being in the goal. Charlee is there for the snacks, her friends, and the costume. That’s her jersey, not a dress, by the way. Ben’s first season of 13U ended last Saturday (which was a solid 30 degrees warmer) and I’m so proud of him and his team. They moved up in age groups so they were the young ins’ and they held their own. Now for a few months of hibernation before at least some of them start spring sports. #soccerlife #ourlittletribe
I don’t remember when it started, but we have a fall break tradition where I take the kids to Target and allow them to walk the toy aisles as slow as humanly possible and show me everything they want for Christmas. Want it? I take a picture of you with it then you put it back. If you throw a fit about not buying it immediately, I delete your pictures. This method works remarkably well and while I do get a few ideas from it, it’s mainly for laughs. They definitely do not remember everything they pick. I take a picture of ANYTHING they want. The poses get intense. There’s a lot of trying to pull off a deep pout so mom can remember how much this toy was neeeeded. Charlee wants a coffee mug? Take a picture. Lizzy wants 32 stuffed animals? Take a picture. Ben overwhelmed because all the Lego options are too cool? Picture. Meredith wants a laundry basket for no reason? Sure, take a picture. 90 minutes later we left Target and the only toy I bought was a ball for Luke. #ourlittletribe #christmasisourfave

And they’re off! Praying for learning, safety, and fun for all the kiddos off to school. I’m going to miss having my babies home so much but I know they’re in the best hands. Lizzy wanted me to walk her into 2nd grade with the same teacher Ben and Meredith had. Meredith walked in with us on the way to 4th grade with the teacher Ben had (there’s only one class per grade at our school so we rarely get new teachers). Ben gave me a hug and kiss and took off for 6th grade. He’s waited years to have Mr. Bourke so he’s pumped, rocking his crocs with socks. Happy Fathers Day . These three celebrating some of what daddy does best. We’ve actually had a bit of a change lately with their daddy’s job. It has not been without stress but it’s also hopefully going to mean new opportunities and maybe a more flexible lifestyle for our little tribe. . Between food prices and providing summer meals for a small zoo I finally switched from instacart delivery/pickup (my favorite discovery of the pandemic) to doing my giant grocery shopping in person. I waited until this morning so I would not have to take a bunch of kids with me. But it sounded so exciting that a bunch of kids volunteered to go anyway and it’s Father’s Day weekend so Jeff deserved a break, dammit, and that’s how I found myself at Aldi on a Saturday morning with 4 kids and 2 carts (baby seat took up most of one) and I’d like to formally apologize to anyone who had to steer around a dancing 4 year old in the aisles. There was even a pep talk in the van before getting out to remind everyone that mommy is not a saint with endless patience or money so hold it together. Despite these faces at our last stop and hitting the bored point, they did really well and I did not yell once. Small victories. #ourlittletribe

Just a few hours of school today for awards. Charlee danced. Luke smiled. And each school kiddo brought home a citizenship award and high honor roll award. We’ve got 2 math lover certificates and a love of learning certificate. We celebrated with lunch at Fundae’s and a good nap for the baby and I. The craziest part is that when the school year started they didn’t even know they were getting another sibling and now they’re all obsessed with their cutie brother. #ourlittletribe #summertime
We did it. We made it to the end of another school year. Parents, we did it. Every single day these humans were out the door mostly on time, mostly well dressed and groomed, mostly well fed, with most of the things, and mostly happy. Sure, a certain kid has basically never had matching socks. And there’s often a last minute scramble for a missing shoe or backpack. One kid has had inside out shirts a few times. One kid cannot complete two tasks in row without reminders in the morning. Behavior sheets got signed right before they walked out the door and spelling lists… I don’t know where those disappeared to. I’ve provided a ridiculous number of water bottles and have no idea where they’re burying them. There have been roughly 2,000 practices, games, activities, field trips, and fun days that required me to sign, send in for and/or drive someone to and I mostly got that done in a reasonable time. And I’m aiming for mostly. That’s like a B and B’s get honor roll so I’m happy. We mostly had an awesome school year. All three of these kiddos had amazing teachers and I’m so thankful. We’ll be seeing all them again in a few years (seriously, there’s only one teacher per grade at their school. We’re on round 3 with the 1st grade teacher with 2 left) and I’m excited for that. Now I’m ready for extra snuggles and lazy days and camps and fun in the sun. Now if you all could pray for my food bill… #ourlittletribe #slowdown

Jeff told me last night that this is my 12th Mother’s Day. I hadn’t thought about it and the time passed surprised me. I spent some years doubting I would ever be able to be a mother. I remember the pure awe of my first Mother’s Day with baby Ben. Every time we added a baby this day always felt a little more mystical. We’d somehow managed enough love and care for another human! A year ago we didn’t know there’d be another baby to love on. So thankful to have Lucas to snuggle on today. They are all the things, every day. Hilarious and exhausting and emotional and loving and just little growing whirlwinds. I’m in so many stages at once; newborn, small children, school children, and tween. It’s a reminder that no matter the phase, this to shall pass. I’m so honored God chose me to be their mother. I adore these babies and their daddy and while I’m so grateful for the spoiling they’re doing today, I’m more grateful that I get to care for them every day. #mothersday #ourlittletribe

We're all eating our favorite treat, bread with "magic sauce"- peanut butter and honey mixed together.
