Twins day Thursday🕊️ Hey everyone, I hope your all doing okay, I just wanted to say a hugeee thank you to everyone who has messaged and supported me through the birth of our twins, a little update, there both doing super well, and have been downgraded rooms to hdu which is amazing, there now 29+, the care we get to do for them is amazing at this stage, they let us clean there eyes, mouth and nappy! Changed there wires, tube feed them and do there blood pressure and temperature, it’s very hands on which is so lovely, they are also now gaining weight almost back up to 2lbs! having only my breast milk, there kidney levels have also come down enough for them to have little protein shakes to give them all the calories they need to grow! LIFE THIS WEEK 🥰 #photodump To be honest I can't believe that it has only been a week. Life between all the daily driving, hospital visits, pumping & raising a toddler time feels like it is all mooshed together! But we have made it through another week. It honestly feels weird postpartum this time around. If it wasn't for the hospital visits each day it doesn't feel like I had babies. It especially didn't feel like I had babies those two weeks I was sick and couldn't see them. My body feels good. I have to remind myself that I did in fact push two babies out of my vagina and to not be on my feet for such long periods of time. But I'm not going to go in to it too much here, you have to join the Email Fam 💌 if you want all the juicy goss that is my life. The email fam has been getting the full low down, BTS juice for the last few months now & loving it! In fact I just dropped them an email of a twin update & what life has been like for them. We have a new addition to our family! ❤️ Our precious baby Sofia decided to join us early on December 15th, weighing 2 pounds 4 ounces. She was born 3 months early at 27 weeks, so she’s been in hospital in the NICU since she was born. Sofie has been doing amazing from day 1 and just needs to hit a couple more milestones before she’s released and she’s just a week or 2 away from coming home! 🥰 Sofia’s arrival caught us all by surprise. World Prematurity Day for me is a day where I reflect on the unexpected early arrival of my eldest nephew Jackson at 34 weeks. I remember as a 21 year old, who had minimal exposure to pregnancy and babies let alone my own, being less worried about Jackson (knowing that he was in the hands of what was then NETS and the NICU) but more worried about his Mum, my sister in law Nicole. I remember being mortified that in order to be close to her baby, she had to discharge from hospital and travel by private car to Melbourne the same day she birthed her son. I remember thinking about her not being able to hold her newborn. I remember the day he was put back on oxygen, after desaturating overnight when he had weaned off, ready to go home. I remember my brother and his wife being shattered that they couldn’t take their baby home when they were so prepared for it. I remember them both being terrified that he would never wean off oxygen. I also remember how incredibly strong they both were, as two young parents dealing with such an emotionally turbulent time. Nicole and Jackson are a huge reason why I am passionate about keeping parents and babies together, skin to skin, in the scenario of a baby needing transfer to higher care. While it might look scary, in many (not all) circumstances even when a baby is receiving medical care or monitoring, they can still remain skin to skin with you, or your partner if you are unable to. If you ever find yourself in the unfortunate situation of your baby needing medical care and/or transfer, don’t be afraid to ask for your baby to remain skin to skin with you as much as possible. Not only is it emotionally beneficial for you, it is physiologically beneficial for your baby, regulating their heart and respiratory rates, temperature and oxygen!
