It felt really good at a slow and steady pace at 8000’. I jogged up all the short inclines with no problem and passed some people, thanks to Orangetheory for the incline power walking. Surprisingly I placed 3rd in my age group. I will have to think about doing the 10K next year. As always supported by Hoka Speedgoat and shorts. I have to give a big thank you to my honey bear for bringing me some electrolytes at around the 3-mile mark and leaving it by a tree for me at around the 5-mile mark. Horrible sleep last few nights is one reason I wasn’t able to give the effort I wanted to today. On the trails I was going longer but saw this fire and wasn’t sure how close it was. When I saw the smoke getting worse, I started heading back and called it in (it wasn’t possible to be just a camp fire at that point). It was in the other side of the river but it’s so incredibly dry out there I got worried about it jumping the river. Sierra's first cross country meet was exciting to watch. (On a heat advisory day too!) There were around 50 teams present for the Chandler Invitational. It was a tough one with the humidity and heat but despite that her sophomore girls team won 1st place and the Highland Hawks Girls XCountry won the Championship. I had an issue at the trail head this morning: I was parked and a fence was just to my right, bushes just in front of my car, I was waiting for it to get light enough to run. A car suddenly rolled up to my left, windows down, faced me and just stared. He was so close I couldn’t have opened my car door. I immediately started my car and drove over the bushes and turned in front of that car. He then went across the street and parked at the gate of where I had to head to get to the trail. I opted to leave and run in the country, near home. DO NOT EVER pull up like that in the dark on someone. I had a lot to leave on the floor. We are almost done with appointments, just an infusion tonight in the hospital (4-5 hrs). I tried to run longer outside but my heart was being funky. Short run, longer weight session and cardio. And I had the gym all to myself this morning. First through the Stanford shopping mall before sunrise, back around to the hospital (I’ve been in those rooms too many times with my teen so I’m always grateful when I’m not staying there but also very mindful of what’s going on in what seems to be a peaceful Children’s hospital). A quick trip up north to the hospital up north yesterday. I’m used to be able to explore in my runs but this didn’t go as expected. The hospital put us up that technically on Stanford campus and it’s VERY secure. Maybe only one way out since I wasn’t climbing fences with barb wire lol.
