Fraser’s Hill could have been electrified with renewable energy since the 1920s, had people listened to the engineer. Mr. J.H. Allan served as assistant engineer at Fraser’s Hill and suggested that a dam in this location could produce hydroelectricity as well as create a pretty lake, quite affordably. It never happened, although a water reservoir dam did get built instead. But the reservoir dam did function as a pleasure lake now named after Mr. Allan. Lake Diablo has the most fantastic hue of intense milky turquoise water. This unique color is attributed to the surrounding glaciers that grind rocks into a fine powder that is carried into the lake through creeks. That fine powder, also called glacial flour, stays suspended in the lake, giving the water its brilliant color. I love stopping by Diablo Dam every year for the gorgeous view. Definitely is one of my favorites!😍

Here in the middle of the wet forest by the shores of this lake, is some bright green Tetterwort, also known as Greater celandine, Cockfoot, Sightwort and Celandine poppy. It is believed to have been brought to North America by the early European settlers. Though the whole plant is quite toxic, parts of it in carefully measured doses have been used for centuries as a remedy for a variety of gastrointestinal ailments, and, in Iriqouis culture, for “pigs that drool and who have sudden jerky movements”.
