Ben Avon, beinn a bhurid and their 7 Munro tops. 32 miles - 2000m ascent A puncture for Andy 3 miles in meant he had to repair the puncture and leave it to dry so off we trotted on foot. A quick jaunt to the secret howf then it was up over the first 2 Munro tops of Avon. The 2 out the back of Avons torr are a 8km detour both ways so it was really good to get these done as it was giving me a headache thinking about it😂😅 down to the sneck after Avon then over to the first Munro top of beinn a bhurid before another long detour out to the outlying Munro top, however a pleasant surprise to have found a plane wreckage and plaque that I’d never known was there. All that was left now was the return back and up to the summit of beinn a bhuird then the walk out to the south top to head down and back to the bikes. Got back to the van at 10:35 and had 25 mins to get to ballater for food with a 19minute drive to get there…. Got there and the cash machine was broke, pulled up outside a pub and asked if they knew where there was another and they said nope just that one. Then some legend of a woman hands me £40 to get our food and we meet her at the Chinese to transfer the money back to her. Absolute life saver and there is some good people still left in the world🥰 thankfully Andy’s leg held out ok after last week hobbling off the hill. 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗲 Kingussie was a planned settlement dating from the 18th century, but it’s said that an early Christian church dedicated to St Columba was founded there much earlier. Documentary sources also record the founding of a Carmelite Friary, probably in the late 1400s. The Carmelites are one of the ancient religious orders of the Roman Catholic Church, which first came to Britain in the 13th century (some 700 years ago). The exact location of both the Friary and the earlier Columban church was unknown, but recent fieldwork has offered tantalising evidence of these sites. In 2018, the cutting of a water pipe trench next to the current town cemetery disturbed human remains. The following archaeological excavation uncovered two large sections of wall which are likely to be the remains of the Carmelite Friary, as well as remains of metalworking dating from the 8th to early 11th century AD (over 1,000 years ago), which may have been associated with the church. Significant amounts of disarticulated human bones (bones that are separated and no longer attached to one other) were also uncovered within a structure built inside the friary church, which was interpreted as an ossuary – a container or site made to serve as the final resting place of human skeletal remain, often when there isn’t space for a full burial. In addition, more human remains were found which appeared to lie beneath the church foundations. These may predate the Carmelite Friary and possibly relate to the Columban church. Hermitage Castle, Scottish Borders near Newcastleton. The mighty stone castle is built on an impressive platform of earth, which may have been part of an earlier castle complex. The earliest records for Hermitage are for the de Soules residence in the 1240s, but this may have been situated to the west, near the chapel ruins. English lord Sir Hugh de Dacre began the present castle around 1360. It was transformed beyond recognition by his successor, William, 1st Earl of Douglas, one of Scotland’s most powerful noblemen. Hermitage was adapted in the 1500s to respond to the threat posed by gunpowder artillery. Humza Yousaf was a victim of his own ideology. He passionately believed that every effort should be made to promote non-white people to top jobs. The SNP shared this view. To them, it was obvious. After the first female First Minister, they needed the first non-white First Minister. So they promoted Humza far beyond his capabilities. He was the political version of a diversity hire. In his resignation speech, he emphasised yet again that he sees himself as a representative of Team Brown. In the absence of race identity politics, Humza would never have been humiliated by being exposed as incapable of doing the top job. In addition to his race obsession, in foreign affairs Humza's allegiances seemed to be formed by solidarity with Muslims as much as by reasoned assessment of the facts. What did he believe in beyond these two core drivers? It's hard to know. He delivered the standard SNP lines, but conviction often seemed confected. The man has had a torrid time and we don't wish to be unkind. We also refrain from celebration. Are the unborn any safer today than yesterday? Has the corruption and indoctrination of children stopped overnight? Are fatherhood, motherhood and healthy childhood now at the heart of policy? Are schools on the road to order and excellence? Are our freedoms restored? Is the gender delusion banished? The answer to these and many more questions is no. We're in politics to stop anyone "getting rid" of unborn children, free speech, pushing indoctrination in schools, changing the cause of marriage and a host of other causes crucial to the flourishing of Scotland. The way out of this mess is to join, support and vote for the Scottish Family Party. With this being our final night in Scotland 🏴 I have a few thoughts. It’s a beautiful country with wonderful history and friendly people. Some of the sites don’t even seem real. It’s as if it’s movie special effects or another planet. The country cares about people and its citizens. We’ve witnessed unhoused people receiving food and care from charities. Every restaurant asks if you have allergies or special requirements for your food. There are plenty of public toilets and they are well maintained and many offer supplies for menstruation free of charge. Citizens over 60 receive free healthcare and can use public transportation free of charge. Speaking of public transportation it’s plentiful, inexpensive and clean. The people seem to be very open to other races and religions. My first time at the beautiful Loch Ard. I can’t quite believe my last outdoor swim (in the UK) was 16/09/22. No wonder getting back in felt so bloody hard. My last swim was in Mull 🏴 and my return swim was Jura 🏴 I wanted to dip in Orkney last April but it was so cold I couldn’t even face taking my coat off let alone getting into the sea! And then through pregnancy I chose to stay on dry land (apart from a going on the SUP). It felt painfully cold when I paddled all week and I thought a swim would be completely impossible, but the last day it felt like unfinished business so I had to give it a go. Humza Yousaf was a victim of his own ideology. He passionately believed that every effort should be made to promote non-white people to top jobs. The SNP shared this view. To them, it was obvious. After the first female First Minister, they needed the first non-white First Minister. So they promoted Humza far beyond his capabilities. He was the political version of a diversity hire. In his resignation speech, he emphasised yet again that he sees himself as a representative of Team Brown. In the absence of race identity politics, Humza would never have been humiliated by being exposed as incapable of doing the top job. In addition to his race obsession, in foreign affairs Humza's allegiances seemed to be formed by solidarity with Muslims as much as by reasoned assessment of the facts. What did he believe in beyond these two core drivers? It's hard to know. He delivered the standard SNP lines, but conviction often seemed confected. The man has had a torrid time and we don't wish to be unkind. We also refrain from celebration. Are the unborn any safer today than yesterday? Has the corruption and indoctrination of children stopped overnight? Are fatherhood, motherhood and healthy childhood now at the heart of policy? Are schools on the road to order and excellence? Are our freedoms restored? Is the gender delusion banished? The answer to these and many more questions is no. We're not in politics to "get rid" of anyone. Just outside of Inverness, you’ll find the magnificent Clava Cairns, believed to have been built around 2000 BC, by Bronze Age farmers as a burial complex for their honored dead. It is believed that each cairn served a different purpose, one a temple, another possibly to harness the heat and light of the sun (similar to the Stonehenge theories), and others as graves, all circular, and all circled by vertical standing stones, used in their funerary rituals. It is a wonder that this sacred site has been preserved for so long. But as impressive as these treasures are, the Victorians didn’t see it that way. (A crannog is an Iron Age house built on a man-made island, reached by a causeway.)This is a truly amazing place where they've excavated a crannog on Loch Tay and have recreated an Iron Age village with authentic techniques.
