STAR MAN โญ๏ธ The one and only Keith Blake was out in Boston recently to take on not only the worldโs oldest marathon (and pick up another star) but also the 5K event! ๐โโ๏ธ He took the chance to test out his Saucony Endorphin Pro 4 trainers as part of Team Sportlink and they excelled in the 5K event ๐ Hereโs Keith, who also runs for Wymondham AC, on his Boston experienceโฆ โIf you are a marathon runner I would bet most of you would have Boston at the top of the list when it comes to running in one of the worldโs leading marathons. โI also ran in this great race two years ago but of course found myself back this year to take on the โbeastโ as Iโve heard it referred to once again. โHowever, before trying to tame this particular animal I also decided to take part in the Boston 5k on the Saturday which is a super shakeout run, especially for folks who have come from far and wide. โSo with my Saucony Endorphin Pro 4โs laced up it was off around a course that takes in the iconic Boylston Street finish which is quite a thrill, especially for those who are not taking part on the big day. โA well organised and attended 5k run which Iโd thoroughly recommend to anyone who is already thinking about running in Boston in 2025. Oh and a great Unicorn medal at the finish. โAs for the marathon itself โ as always, a great experience, but it was tough out there this year due to the heat which I feel led to me continually cramping up after 20 miles. Darkstar Marathon. A little history of the โ hell of the Southโ First run on 26th Jan 2014 the first race has become a bit of local folklore, the race took place after the Adur had burst its banks after months of rain and at certain places you couldnโt tell which side of the bank the river was on. This led to a complete mudfest for the 55 runners. Won by Paul Sargeant ( who has won it 4 times since ) the race was initially supported by the Darkstar brewery as you run past where the brewery was, hence the name. Despite the conditions every one finished except the sweeper who had to be rescued and warmed up in a car. The scout hut at the end was carnage though with runners being warmed by Jessโs now infamous Chilli. The race is actually an Ultra with the route going up the river bank and Downslink path for 14 miles to West Grinstead station and returning down the other side of the river.. 3rd marathon of the year done, and rounding things off in style with a shiny new PB (I am happier about the situation than I look in that photo - honest ๐ ). It's the 2nd time running Valencia, and it's mad to see how much the race has grown in popularity since I last ran it in 2019. It's got more of a feel of a major now. And dare we say a perfectly flat course. Only incline was at the start over the first bridge. I will definitely be back over the coming years, hopefully to obtain that sub-3. But for now it's back to the grind, with more of a focus on strength training... Which I did neglegct throughout this cycle (sorry @runningjo10k & @theperformteam ๐คฆโโ๏ธ). First #flatlay for a while ahead of the #richardburton10k tomorrow - I haven't trained at all since Bedford Marathon 5 weeks ago but really looking forward to stretching my legs out. Not expecting a PB but should be my fastest ever 10k race time (if only because I haven't raced a 10k since Thailand) Got the GoPro charged so may film as I go. Not much changes from flatlay to flatlay theee days - tried and tested shorts, socks and shoes. Don't need new kit all the time. I haven't actually found my current race shoes in the choas of moving house and doing work on the new place, so running in my old Saucony Endorphin Pro's - my 10k PB was in them during a training effort for Bedford Marathon. Maybe they will light it up tomorrow! Got my @feel.run recycled plastic snood (actually 2 of them) ready as it looks cold and rainy and I haven't found any gloves either since the move..... So yesterday was the 200th edition of #melkshamparkrun Luckily for them, though I know they will wholeheartedly disagree, I'm on the core team ๐ To be honest I don't do much except take the piss and offer up ridiculous suggestions but I can say they are the most lovely and dedicated bunch ever, I've got boring WhatsApp messages to prove how serious they take it! So yesterday was a big milestone for us, obviously Covid hit us as it did with all parkruns. We had a great turnout. 179 is a good number for us. If you're ever in the area on a Saturday morning pop down, our course has a bit of everything, tarmac, gravel and grass and also the worst first timers briefing in parkrun delivered by me ๐๐คฃ I've actually been congratulated you know ๐ love to see you someday. It seems it's been 11 weeks since I last posted ๐ณ Since the Weymouth Half in March I've tried to do regular steady runs to build fitness. In April I did the Devizes Half. A Half I've done many times, a bit lumpy and the winds this year were awful especially out near the Plain, but highly enjoyable. In May I did the Great Bristol Run, another half. This was awful, by mile 4, I knew my legs weren't in the game. That made my goal to be sub 2hrs and don't walk. I can gladly say i achieved both ๐คฃ but it was nice to bump into some friendly faces for some banter ๐ On the last Sunday of May, I finally managed to do a run I've been meaning to do for a couple of years. In the summer months on the 4th Sunday of the month, the National Trust put on The Avebury 10k. It's a free non timed event that starts in Avebury and goes up onto the Ridgeway, then over to Silbury Hill, then back to Avebury. A lovely no pressure event in glorious surroundings. It was great to see friends there too. On a plus note I did a sub 24 minutes parkrun today for the first time since October last year so some improvement.
