Ranunculus season - is this one of your favourite flowers? I often get asked what is my favourite flower and it is often impossible to give one variety. I’d rather choose my favourite flower of the season! However, I find this frilly flower rather impossible to resist, she has petals like tissue paper and is now bread in the most softest of colours & that’s before we get onto the butterfly varieties! It’s not surprising these beauties are a firm favourite with my clients. What ranunculus lack in scent they make up for in curb appeal. I’ll be trialing an outdoor stock this year….I will report back!
If you know me, you’ll know I’m a bit of a colour queen, as I type I’m wearing red: (a funky pair of wide legged trousers with leopard print trainers), I’m also a sucker for a slick of red lippy - and nails to match given the chance. But that doesn’t mean I always create colourful flower palettes at the weddings I’m charged to flower up. Colour can be a bit like marmite, love it or hate it, it’s a yes please or a no thank you kind of situation more often. When you think of wedding flowers I wonder if a lot of brides associate them with more subtle blends of pastels or whites and greens; they want their day to be easy on the eye and perhaps worry (unnecessarily) that colour can be overwhelming; don’t get me wrong, I love creating those neutral, tonal palettes too, but I often find a lot of TWHFCo couples put their trust in me to do what I think is best. I often find myself curating wedding flower palettes that are colourful but aren’t a screaming clashing kaleidoscope either! More and more I’m getting couples booking and asking me to pull together the combination of colours with pops of bright zingers but without the fear of it being garish and gopping ! You see brights are utterly glorious, they can be easily tempered and you can always increase or decrease proportions of combinations: “pops of colour” “touches of brights” are often phrases I refer to in my proposals. Lately I’ve found more and more couples are asking me for colour, I’m asked to take the lead on how I bring these combinations together. It’s my job after all to interpret a vision. I don’t believe in playing safe or prescriptive, I would rather follow Mother Nature out into the flower field and temper dominant colours with a combination of shapes and textures as well as foliages (that’s greenery to you and me)! When buying locally as I do as much as I can, I’m often at the mercy of my local flower farmer, they’ll tell me what they’ve got growing that week and I can build up a palette blending shapes, textures and colours together thus creating beautiful seasonally inspired designs. Yes you can add orange but mix it with pink or clash it with blue and the look can be strikingly different.

Tulips - sustainability is on my mind! So I treat mine as an annual crop as they generally are not very reliable about coming back. However, a few years ago I gifted my spent tulips to a lady in town who has a lovely south facing walled garden and LOOK - they have come back. Even Belle Époque!! So this year I went back and had a little look for myself - it brought me such joy (and a little envy) that my old stock was still working hard to bring some happiness. Whilst I will continue to grow some tulips I can’t help but think we need to be moving over to more sustainable bulbs - I don’t have a garden that would like them over summer (they need to bake) but for now I’m happy to think my bulbs don’t go to waste. More thoughts to share once I delve into more research & planning! For now - enjoy x

I did this digital painting titled ‘Veiled Beauty, Lethal Grace: The Hemlock Water Dropwort’s Elegy’ following various recordings of the #riverhayle in #sterth #cornwall. 🎧 The audio you’ll hear in the photo of me, is a clip of the energy of the river converted into music notes. The high pitched single sustained note you can hear amongst the tumbling frequencies is when the electrode touched the hemlock water dropwort. 🌿. I didn’t know what the plant was at the time, but after researching it back at the cottage, became fascinated by it. ➿ Hemlock water dropwort, also known as dead tongue, possesses a haunting beauty, being bright green at the beginning of spring and later growing delicate clusters of small white flowers. With its finely divided leaves, it has an enchanting allure. ⚠️ However, beneath its aesthetic appeal lies a deadly nature, as it ranks as the UK’s most poisonous plant. It can kill within minutes of ingesting. Victims die with a ‘sardonic grin’ caused by failure of the respiratory muscles. 〰️ Despite its lethal potential, it is a crucial component of wetland ecosystems, providing habitat and sustenance for various species. Its presence underscores the intricate balance of nature, where even the most striking flora can harbor danger, reminding us of the complexities and fragility of the natural world. 💌 The products in my shop are constructed from plants not plastics, and these cards are 100% recyclable made from natural offset uncoated paper. Little know here in the mountain west, hellebores, also known as lenten or Christmas roses, are a fantastic perennial for the landscape and a special cut flower for super early blooms! I don't have many of them, but I sure love seeing them each spring! They are slow to establish, but once they do, they can make a nice big mound! 🍃🍃🍃 Hello! I’d like to tell you about one of the designs in my new collection Spring Back : Riverside Retrospectives. This one’s title is K-A-B Osseous Resilience: The Remedial Touch of Old Man’s Beard. It was inspired by sights while on river recording walks by the River Hayle in St Erth, Cornwall, where an abundance of Usnae Hirta aka ‘Old Man’s Beard’ was growing alongside the bank, an ideal environment of clean, moist air, for this lichen. You can swipe for a photo & footage taken at the time. Some footage can also be seen in the clip I posted yesterday. The ancient river evoked feelings of ancestry and the theme of bones - spines, ribcages, limbs - began to take shape. I wanted to design a piece of art that could be worn climbing around the back of a chic plain quality pure organic cotton vest top. The same eco print in green has found it’s way onto sustainable greetings cards (swipe to see) It is also used on the cover of my new track, Riverside Retrospectives, which is in my licensing catalogue now. Soft late summer, early autumn palette for these lovebirds. Rich tones of burgundy and hunter green, paired so delicately with soft neutrals in champagne and whites, and a jewel toned pop of magenta to enhance the composition. We think the combination of vibrant hues and subtle nuances here create for a more dynamic and sophisticated palette. All these ingredients are slowly coming together now. Surprisingly, the Narcissus are a little slow this year. However, the fritillaries are starting to flower as is the yellow Forsythia which always brightens up our hedges! I’m yet to get creating - this bowl is one from last year. I seem to be spending most of my days prepping the land and moving seed trays around the greenhouse!!! I will try and share a new arrangement video soon I promise. The Chestnut Horse, Easton @thechestnuthorse.hampshire Just a few minutes drive (or an easy leisurely walk) from Kings Worthy, is this beautiful country gem of a village pub…with added cafe, deli and little farm shop with delightfully fresh and local produce and a produce refill area. A winning combination! Part of the @avington.hampshire it’s a fantastic spot on the estate. We only stopped for a coffee and quick bite to eat, but the menu looks varied and is nicely written so will definitely be back to try something more substantial. What I loved immediately was the interior design. So classically country in style, the design and style is cosy luxe and has been nicely thought through. The sofa lounge style paired with rustic wooden tables is incredibly enticing and I can imagine sinking into one of the Chesterton’s for a lazy Sunday afternoon after feasting on a roast. Hello Spring Blossoms! I have been having some amazing conversations with #remakingtogether makers over the last couple of weeks and feel deeply blessed to have had the chance to connect so meaningfully with people. @pebblesandglass and I had a really great talk last night about how insta-craft has almost started to feel like a production line in the 'need' for constant content, and it's one of the reasons I have slowed down so much - it had started to feel like in trying to talk about remaking as an awesome alternative to buying new, I was buying just as much to remake! I decided yesterday (whilst unsuccessfully attempting to take a nap) that my word for this year (which I've never had one of before 😂🙃) is delight. I want to feel delighted with life! (And generally I am! But it's good to focus on the positive more intentionally). So .... I'm delighted to share this delightful ode to spring with you! Spring flowers are on the horizon! The forcing tulips are looking fabulous and I'm dreaming of these sorts of garden harvests in a couple of short months from now! Here's the finished BEAUTY! (I know I'm double posting but it's worth it). Swipe for very simple steps - this is the knit jumper I cut the bottom off a couple of weeks ago during the live if you want to see how to do that, and then I've knitted a new rib bottom. The rest is all just MAGICAL fringing and deeply unapologetic Barbie tones (my children have taken to calling me Weird Barbie when my hair is all sticky up in the morning. I am Honoured). . Getting back into connecting with Insta for this PhD has brought back some of the joy I used to find in sharing ideas - it had definitely gone for a while there.
