What a fab morning at @rebounderstherapycentre. Rebound therapy is great for lots of things but in particular for Lola it is helping with her communication, concentration, following instructions as well as much needed sensory input. Being on a trampoline really helps with getting input for different senses in particular vestibular (which is all about movement and balance) and proprioceptive (all about muscles, joints and deep pressure) which is ideal for our sensory seeker! Lola already loves @louisereboundtherapy and Nikki and was making sure they both god equal amount of cuddles today 😂

Do you recognise some of these behaviours in your child? 🤔 I can't tell you how many parents have said to me, 'That's just him' ' He's always been like that' ' we've been to a (insert certain service here e.g. sleep/behaviour etc) clinic' When actually a sensory assessment looks at everything your child does and brings it all together for it to make sense. It's not looking at one aspect of the child, it's the whole child. Want to understand more if your child has sensory processing differences? Jude’s bedroom: where every corner is a softplay sensory seeker’s paradise. Jude is having weeks of poor sleep again and it hits hard when it happens. His room looks and is extravagant, it’s a price we have to pay to try to get him to feel calm, happy and regulated. but it also encourages him to stay in his bedroom when he wakes at 1,2,3 or 4 and to seek his sensory input in a safe a controlled environment throughout the night rather than roaming the house. It’s not quite going to plan, ask the dried pasta he found and emptied all over the house, but we continue to find ways. 💙✨ #AutismAwareness #SensoryPlay #JudesParadise #autismsleepproblems #sensoryseeker #sensoryseeking #sensoryseekingkids #autismsleep #autismsleepissues #nonverbal #preverbal #educationalneeds

Treatment for Sensory Processing Disorder As mentioned above one of the ways to treat SPD is by performing a sensory diet. Sensory diets are specially tailored activities to help an individual learn to process sensory input more effectively and improve regulation. Occupational therapists (OT) are highly involved in treating children with SPD. Look for an OT in your area that specializes in Sensory Processing Disorder and reach out to your pediatrician to get a referral. The OT will complete an evaluation and set a plan unique for your child. They will engage your child in a sensory diet, help you with strategies and provide you with education to improve their participation in daily activities. Be involved! Consistency is key to working with and improving SPD. Ask questions, continue to seek out information, and work with your child's OT to learn how to best help them. #sensorydifferences #sensoryseekingkids #sensoryprocessing #parenting #sensoryavoiderandseeker #hyposensitive #sensoryseekers #sensorydiet #sensoryavoider #sensoryavoiding #sensoryseeking #sensorydiets #sensoryprocessingdisorder

Hi 🙋🏻‍♀️ to all Moms out there who followed me in the last few weeks 😀! Let’s do an intro so you know how I can help you 😀❤️ I’ve been named the child whisperer by many parents over the last 13 years because I find it easy to get right down to ‘ what’s going on’ with your child in minutes! Actress LA Baker who played Ellen in Will and Grace said that she got more out of a ten min LIVE I did than years in therapy! This isn’t the first person to say that. 💁🏻‍♀️ It’s because, thankfully , I’ve been training and studying for over 15 years in the field of psychology and human behaviour, ( with a keen interest and speciality in the field of sensitive children) so I know the latest cutting edge techniques and behaviour changing information. I have been given a gift of translating children’s behaviour to their parents so they can understand what’s really going on. 💁🏻‍♀️ Many parents come to me AFTER they’ve been to medical professionals, counsellors, therapists, psychologists etc... they’ve often felt hopeless and helpless because nobody has really been able to show them how to make REAL, lasting change 💁🏻‍♀️ I’ve literally dedicated most of my life to this , so I’m able to show people how to make real change in a short conversation with me. I’ve done the circuits in schools, nurseries and health clinics over the years and now I love nothing more than working online with Moms all around the world 🌍 Im currently helping parents in Australia, Canada, America , U.K. and Dominican Republic! Thankyou internet for making this possible! ❤️ What can you expect from me? Honesty, care and straight talking. And lots of direction and practical action steps. Stick around if you want to help your highly sensitive child grow confidence and feel more calm- because that’s what I’m good at! Tell me more about YOU below and what your biggest struggle is right now with your child 👇🏼👇🏼 I will take it into account when planning my free advise for you shared here on Instagram ❤️❤️

One of the unique aspects about autism is how the autistic brain processes sensory stimuli. It is in the DSM-5 as one of the four RRBs(restricted/repetitive behavior) features defined as “hyper or hypo reactivity to sensory input or unusual interest in sensory aspects of the environment.”  This means many different things to many different children.  The exact same stimuli can cause one child to overreact and another child to underreact. In another circumstance, it can be the opposite. That is why your autistic child may insist on eating the exact same chicken nugget for three weeks and then suddenly refuse to even have it on their plate. It is why, for some children, just the sound of water running can send them into a meltdown.    It is essential to recognize the root cause and create a detailed behavior plan that teaches how to help your child. THIS GOES BEYOND “ESCAPE” - if you’ve been told your child just engages in behavior to “escape” and the solution is to “enforce the demand” - RUN! Do not walk from that therapist. On the surface, the theory is sound. If a child is having a meltdown because you are giving them a bath and you remove them from the tub, YES, that will reinforce or increase the likelihood that the next time they don’t want a bath they will have a tantrum. BUT – the answer is NOT to just keep giving the child a bath.  or to offer a bribe to take a bath.  Why? Because the reason for the behavior is not just escape. A sensory meltdown is a meltdown – an automatic fight/flight response to a trigger.  continuing to “enforce the demand” will only cause more meltdowns and distrust.   #sensoryavoider #sensoryseeker #sensoryseekingkids #sensoryseeking #sensoryprocessing #sensoryprocessingdisorder #spd #sensorysensitivity #sensorysensitive #sensorysensitivekids #pediatricslp #pediatricoccupationaltherapy #pediatricot #Cota #occupationaltherapist #ot #sensorymeltdown #autisticmeltdown #neurodiversityaffirming #NDAffirming #neuroaffirming #autistickids #autistictoddler #autistictoddlers

I am a neurodivergent mom to 3 neurodivergent kiddos. Getting dressed in our house has always been a struggle. Most days at least one clothing item is on incorrectly when we leave the house for the day. I never mind, but everyone else seems to! Having SPD makes life tough enough without strangers letting you know you've got your clothes on wrong (or sometimes even taking clothes off to fix them!). Sensory Processing Dental Care For Kids Keep following for more dental tips! 💙 Timers are great visual for children who are learning to brush their teeth. Increase the time they brush their teeth by starting with a little amount of time to begin. Some parents will play a song or sing a song and when the song is over they can stop brushing their teeth. Try not to use threats for your child to brush their teeth. Making threats about cavities, fillings or trips to the dentist can be very scary for a child and may scare them or cause further anxiety when brushing their teeth. Using sensory oral motor tools and activities can help your child. When your child meets with an Occupational Therapist to discuss their sensory diet plan, they will suggest which oral motor tools and activities would be best for your child and what is age appropriate. #sensorydifferences #sensoryseekingkids #sensoryprocessing #parenting #sensoryavoiderandseeker #hyposensitive #sensoryintegrationdisorder #sensory #sensorymoms #sensoryavoiders #hypersensitive #sensoryintegration #parentsupport #sensoryseeker #sensoryseekers #sensorydiet #sensoryavoider #sensoryavoiding #sensoryseeking #sensorydiets #sensoryprocessingdisorder

@getmyprebox Most sensory box subscriptions are generic, so we created sensory boxes for experiences to help prepare your child for activities such as... Going to the doctor, going on an airplane, getting your haircut, going to the zoo, going trick-or-treating, going to a sporting event, going to the dentist, first day of school, winter break, birthday parties, holidays, taking a road trip, going to the movies, going to a restaurant, meeting a new sibling, moving, and more! Every PRE BOX is designed to increase emotional regulation in the following ways: • To provide children with strategies and supports to enhance their social participation and engagement in a new experience. • To give children and adults the tools to lessen the intensity, duration, and frequency of problem behaviors in a new experience. Proactive Preparing for an experience BEFORE it happens can help make it go smoothly. Regulatory If you know what to expect ahead of time, you feel calm, cool, and collected in the moment. Just saying...... That child (or adult) who is squirming, unable to pay attention, being rude, talking back, or procrastinating may be crippled by the dagger (aka tag) in their side. Some children are good at recognizing what is triggering their nervous systems, other children, who may struggle with interoception, may have no idea why they are distressed, anxious, fuming, etc.    I have worked with many many parents who never knew their child struggled with sensory issues. These were and are NOT bad parents. They are loving, attentive, and kind but struggle with a neurotypical nervous system. If your child is struggling to concentrate, has a short fuse, is procrastinating, constantly taking off clothes, changing clothes, or melting down, STOP and help them figure out the problem. It may be something as overt as a tag, but more often, it’s something they can’t identify.  #sensoryseeker #sensoryseeker #sensoryprocessing #sensoryfriendly #sensoryavoider #sensorysensitivity #sensoryseekingkids #sensorysensitive #spd #sensoryprocessingdisorder #Cota #schoolot #sensorymeltdown #sensoryoverload #sensorybreak #pediatricot #sensorysensitivekids #adhdkids # #kidsdowelliftheycan #morningmeltdown #bedtimeroutine

🌫️🌫️🌫️ CLOUD DOUGH 🌫️🌫️🌫️ Yes it's messy but it is so easy to make and perfect for sensory play! Here is my easy cloud dough recipe: Mix 4 cups of flour with ½ cup of oil (any oil will work, I use vegetable oil as the price of olive oil alarms me these days 😂) You can leave it plain or add a few drops of food colouring to make different colours. It's fun to play with and can be moulded into shapes, sifted through fingers and it is totally taste safe. Perfect for messy or sensory play and ideal for tuff trays - brown and green with trees and dinosaurs, blue, yellow and green make a great beach theme or can be used with cupcake cases, bowls and whisks for a baking theme. I definitely recommend putting in a tray or tub with a towel or cloth to contain the mess, as it can be easily washed off. You can then pop it in a ziplock bag or tupperware and use it again! If children would rather not get dirty fingers, pop it in zip lock bags for them to experience, without having to touch it directly. #clouddough #sensoryplay #messyplay #purpleparenting #earlyyearsinspo #earlyyearsinspiration #sensoryplayidea #sensoryseekingkids #messybutfun #earlyyearsactivities #sensoryplayathome #tastesafesensoryplay #playyourway

They say, “Silence is GOLDEN, unless you have kids, then silence is just SUSPICIOUS!” While I was busy, my sensory-seeking son found a sensory experience with shaving cream in our bathroom behind our locked bedroom door. It’s EVERYWHERE!! He’s very sneaky, good at finding ways around locks and barriers, and very good at making messes. And when I found him in this snowstorm of shaving cream, he kept repeating “It’s okay”, while I let him know “It is not ok.” 🫣🙄 #likeididnthaveenoughtodotoday #lookingforthesilverlining #sensoryseekingkids #ihaventcleaneditupyet

My son, R, is 5 years old and responsible for pretty much everything that makes me a better person. At 4.5 years old, after years of struggling with speech development and social situations, he was diagnosed with level one autism, combined adhd, and a severe receptive/expressive language delay. Part of the delay in seeking out a more timely diagnosis and receiving services was my lack of knowledge of how kids on the spectrum could present. He’s been atypical in many ways but also very typical in others as well, which is ultimately what confused me and those around us. I have since learned that they say “if you’ve met one kid with autism, you’ve met one kid with autism.” This account is a look into our story and the tenacity it takes to live in a world not designed to support neurodiverse minds. We’re here to educate, advocate, and break every ceiling we can.

So of course I did a proper Christmas dinner too, but also decided there is absolutely no point forcing children to eat something they don’t like or enjoy just because it’s Christmas. So they had a choice, Grayson opted for joining in with all things Christmas and the girls opted for chicken dippers ( might have forgotten to check the freezer to make sure we had chips. - we didn’t!) and beans! Not very festive at all, but they ate it, and were happy, and thats what counts right. ⁣Ooooh and Hallie decided that she would try pigs in blankets and they are now a firm favourite. ⁣ Slowly slowly I am shaking off the what’s expected pressures and am just making our lives easier and more comfortable, and doing the right things for us. ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ #alternativechristmasdinner #dippersforchristmas #sensorydifferences #christmaslist #sensoryseekingkids #christmas2023 #doingitourway #christmasdinner #ourautismandadhdadventures #honestparenting #memorymaking #makinglifemagical #mummyismyfavouriteword #adhdlife #rawandreal #adhdmum #autismandadhdparenting

Don't be afraid to be yourself this Holiday Season. Even though others may call you names or not invite you to play their games, know that your differences make you unique and needed. For parents of autistic kiddos: Do what you and your child need. Check out my post on tips for a Neuroaffirming Christmas. A special note to parents who have been questioning whether your child is autistic. Watch how your child responds to holiday traditions. Do they struggle with the different routine? Do their interactions with others appear forced (are they masking)? Are they seeking to be alone? Are meltdowns more than what you'd expected? If so, take the step to have your child evaluated. Don't take no for an answer. Don't let others tell you all children struggle at the holidays. Trust your gut. #neuroaffirmingChristmas #autismfriendly #autismfriendlyholiday #pda #pdakids #Neuroaffirming #autisticmum #differentnotless #adhdkids #adhdchild #adhdgirls #adhdparenting #adhdstruggles #adhdparents #christmas2023 #spiritedchild #oppositionaldefiantdisorder #odd #highlysensitivechild #spd #sensoryseekingkids #sensoryprocessingdisorder #sensoryseeker #sensoryavoider #coregulation #coregulationparenting

Christmas time can be more enjoyable for those who have sensory challenges. They may require some adjustments in their routine or a few new accommodations. With little changes we can reduce sensory overload so they can enjoy their holidays too. Munchables can help regulate behaviour. Have you tried adding a chew to your sensory toolbox? Munchables provide children with a focus point, which can help kids filter out extra sensory information. Sensory chews and fidgets may help regulate attention, concentration, emotions and other behaviors. https://www.munchables.ca #sensoryintegrationdisorder #sensorymoms #sensorysensitivity #hyposensitivity #hypersensitivity #sensorydiet #sensoryavoiding #sensoryparenting #sensoryseeking #sensorydifficulties #sensorydiets #hyposensitivity #sensoryprocessingdisorder #sensoryseekingkids #sensorytoys #sensorytools #sensoryprocessingdisorder #family #familylife #connectedparenting #respectfulparenting #neurodivergent #neurodivergence #neurodiversity #christmas2023 #christmas #christmastreats #christmasbakingforkids #christmasgiftguide #sensorytoys #sensorytools

Sensory Processing Disorder Types Of Sensory Input 1. Tactile-what you feel (touch). 2. Visual-what you see. 3. Auditory-what you hear. 4. Gustation-what you taste. 5. Olfactory-what you smell. 6. Proprioception-body awareness. This is the ability to know where you are without using your sight. If you close your eyes and touch your nose successfully that’s because of your proprioceptive system. 7. Vestibular-where you are in space, this input comes from movement and head position. Your vestibular system lets you know if you are upright or hanging upside down. 8. Interoception-how you ‘feel’. This is input that lets you know you are hungry, thirsty, need to use the restroom, that your heart is beating fast, that you are hot or cold, etc. LINK IN BIO Fun Holiday Treats To Make With Kids LINK IN BIO 25 Sensory Books 25 Days Of Christmas For Kids LINK IN BIO 40 Christmas Crafts For Kids LINK IN BIO #selfregulation #occupationaltherapy #selfregulation #parenting #ToddlerSensory #SensoryActivities #SensoryAwareness #SensoryKids #SensoryTherapy #childdevelopment #sensorysensitivities #sensoryplay #sensorybin #finemotorskills #sensorytray #preschoolactivities #kindergarten #earlyyearsideas #sensoryintegrationdisorder #sensoryprocessingdisorder #ADHD #Diagnosis #MentalHealth #sensorydifficulties #sensorydiets #sensoryseekingkids #sensoryprocessing #sensoryavoiderandseeker #hyposensitive #christmas #giftguideforkids

✨ Best Toys for Sensory Play (by age) ✨ A few weeks back you guys voted that I do a post about the best sensory toys categorized by age. Here are some of my all time favorites! What makes sensory toys so great? There are numerous benefits, but here are a few reasons I wanted to highlight: ✨ Sensory Integration: Sensory play helps children better understand and process sensory information from their environment. This is particularly beneficial for children with sensory processing difficulties or those on the autism spectrum. ✨ Exploration and discovery: Sensory toys spark children's natural curiosity and desire to explore their environment. This fosters a love for learning and encourages children to be more open to new experiences. ✨ Attention and focus: Engaging with sensory toys can help children develop their attention span and focus. As they become absorbed in their play, they learn to concentrate on tasks for longer periods. ✨ Encourages open-ended play: Sensory toys often have multiple ways to engage, which promotes open-ended play and encourages children to think creatively and use their imagination. 🔗 Everything is linked in my Amazon store under Sensory Tools and Toys. 🫶🏼 Merry Christmas, everyone! #sensoryplayallday #sensorytoysforkids #sensoryprocessing #sensoryseekingkids #sensoryavoiding
