No one would ever suggest withholding a wheelchair from a child who cannot walk. Yet, other types of disabilities require different supports, adaptive equipment and tools, and accommodations. A child may have a formal diagnosis of dysgraphia or may struggle with the skills required for efficient handwriting. Accommodations enable children to access curriculum and complete academic work. Interesting and important research from 2018 out of Michigan State University show that 1- students feel that they are not supported often enough with use of their accommodations and 2- teachers often intentionally restrict accommodations for various reasons, including that they feel accommodations prevent kids from learning to do tasks "the traditional way". Please share this visual with your teachers and explain that students benefit from USING their IEP accommodations and that they are NEVER something to phase out. What are your feelings on this topic? Do you see accommodations being withheld? #occupationaltherapy #SBOT #schoolbasedot #cota #autism #autismsupport #emotionalregulation #autism #neurodivergent #speechtherapy #autismparent #autismmom #autismteacher #actuallyautistic #neurodiversity #neurodiversityaffirming #ndaffirming #ndaffirmingot #ndaffirmingtherapy #neurodivergence #sensoryprocessing #sensoryprocessingdisorder #spd #SPED #SPEDparent #SPEDteacher #autismawareness #westlakevillageparents #thousandoaksparents #bostonparents

A fantastic post from @playeasy.ie showing some important distinctions in language used about autism and autistic people. Listening to the autistic community and using preferred language is what it means to be neuro affirming. Of course some autistic people have grown up with and may prefer person first language (ie. person with autism) and that is their prerogative completely. It is preferable in the autistic community to use identity first language (autistic person) due to autism being an intrinsic part of a persons genetic make up. Autism is not something that can be detached from a person, nor should there ever be an implication to detach it! Education to ensure that acceptance of a persons autistic identity is really key to increasing wellbeing for autistic people whose lives have been devalued for far too long. . . . . . #autism #autistic #autisticandproud #neurotype #neurodivergent #neurodiversity #braintype #autismacceptance #autismawareness #autismfamily #autisticgirls #masking #sensoryprocessing

Are they "a difficult kid" or are they experiencing sensory issues? Mindful Power Child & Adolescent Therapist, TRINA, spoke with local School Counselors last week about how to support students with sensory sensitivities. These kiddos are often labeled as "difficult" and their struggles are easy to overlook, even by educators. If any of these quotes made you think of your child or one of your students, we challenge you to consider if that student has all of their sensory needs met. *Instagram never replaces formal assessment or professional diagnosis. Is there a better way to spend childhood than being home educated? I really don’t think so… . Here is my thoughts: . Home education gives children the best chance at being their individual selves & embracing all that they are (as I wrote about in my last post), it holds space for individuality which I believe is so important in childhood for future mental wellbeing. . Home education strengthens relationships in the family home, usually puts connections above everything. . Home education allows time for so much more living! . Home education is flexible to suit children’s priorities and interests and abilities/needs. . Home education sees the value in childhood and doesn’t rush children being children. . Home education can be anything you want and need it to be. . Home education can bring authentic true friendships where children don’t feel the need to change or shrink themselves. . Home education can be the catalyst of cycle breaking and bring change to a whole new generation of children. . Home education…it’s so much more than just learning in a different way/place to school, it’s restoring childhood in my eyes. . 63/100 #100homeeddays #100dayshomeeducation #unschoolersofinstagram #homeeducation #unschoolingstanley #homeschoolcollective #homeeducator #unschoolingfamily #worldschooling #lifelearning #selftaught #childledlearning #interestled #autonomouseducation #pda #pesistentdriveforautonomy #actuallyautistic #pdaprofile #pdaautism #asd #spd #dyselxia #sensoryprocessing #sensoryregulation #coregulation #sensoryoverload #neurodivergentfamily #neurodivergence #unschool #unschoolers

There are so many therapeutic benefits of being at the beach🏖. And so many therapeutic benefits of kids participating in "heavy work play"...play that provides proprioceptive (deep pressure) sensory input and engages muscles by digging, carrying, pulling, and climbing. Next time you are at the beach...take note of all of the digging (sand), carrying (pails of water), and pulling (boogie boards) that is happening all around. TODAY is the final day for the discounted rate for Child Inspired's Beach Bash Camp that will have your child learning fun beach-themed games, coastal facts, and ocean safety strategies with peers during fun, therapeutic, hands-on activities. Child Inspired's Beach Bash Camp (scheduled for July 8-11th) is discounted from $300 to $250 through April 28th. Ms. Lexi has designed this fun and therapeutic camp to be inclusive for all kids. And with small groups of up to 6 children, she will ensure that all kids have a positive experience tailored to their unique abilities. It's important to remember that progress is not always linear, and setbacks are a natural part of learning and growing. Why Patience Matters: For individuals with sensory sensitivities, every day can bring new challenges and experiences. Adjusting to sensory-friendly strategies or learning to manage sensory overload takes time and practice. As caregivers, friends, or family members, your patience is a key support that makes this journey smoother. Expect Fluctuations: Some days will be better than others, and that’s okay! Celebrating the small victories can encourage continued effort and adaptation. On tougher days, understanding and support are more crucial than ever. Supporting Each Other: Let’s cultivate a community where setbacks are seen as opportunities for growth and learning. Share your stories, your struggles, and your triumphs. Your experiences can light the way for others on similar paths. Whether you are a parent, educator, or friend, your patience and encouragement can make a significant impact. - - - - #sensoryhealthcoach #sensoryprocessing #sensoryseeking #sensoryoverload #christianot #sensoryprocessingdisorderparentsupport #christianspecialneeds #kidstherapy christianspecialneedsfamilies #sensory #explore #sensoryprocessingdisorder #sensoryissues #occupationaltherapist #occupationaltherapy

Have you and your child just finished the grueling process of getting an autism diagnosis? You aren’t alone in your struggles, and we’re here for you at Atypical Kids, Mindful Parents Blog. Subscribe here to be part of our compassionate parenting community. My best advice is to first tend to the parents: get supports in place for your own mental health and self-care, which includes community. It’s okay. They’re still the same kid. Now you know what they need, and you can get them the support that they’re entitled to. Take a breath. We’re here for you. It isn’t an easy path, it is one that will require you to grow. Your kid is still the same beloved child, and now you know what they need! They now have a diagnosis that will open doors to the support that they are entitled to. You will learn how to open those doors. If you run at them all at once you will exhaust yourself. There will be ups and downs, but you and your family have just taken a big step toward learning what your child needs, and now you can pause before the next step. Yes, you can pause. Therapy and self-care for myself have helped my whole family so much more than most of the interventions for my kid. This is a marathon, not a sprint. Get supports in place for your own mental health and self-care. Seek out a community of parents who understand.

Sully has Sensory Processing Disorder. Children with SPD may over react to sounds, clothing, and food textures or they may undereact to sensory input which causes them to seek sensory input. Some examples include jumping off tall things or swinging too high on playgrounds. Children don’t have to be one or the other but can be a mix of over sensitive and d under sensative. Children are over sensative if: ▪️clothing feels scratchy or itchy ▪️lights seem too bright ▪️sounds seem too loud ▪️soft touch feels too hard ▪️good textures make them gag ▪️have poor balance or seem clumsy ▪️are afraid to play on swings ▪️act poorly to sudden movements, touches, loud noises, or bright lights ▪️have behavior problems These symptoms can be linked to poor motor skills too. Trouble holding a pencil or scissors. Have trouble climbing stairs or low muscle tone. They may also have language delay. These symptoms may cause lack of self confidence which leads to self isolation or even depression. Children may be under sensative if they: ▪️can’t sit still ▪️seek thrills ▪️spin without getting dizzy ▪️ can’t pick up on social skills ▪️ don’t recognize social space ▪️ chew on things ▪️ seek visual stimulation ▪️ have problems sleeping ▪️ don’t recognize when face is dirty or nose is running Sully has a combination but tends to be under stimulated. #sensoryprocessingdisorder #sensoryprocessing #sensoryprocessingdisorderparentsupport #sensoryprocessingdisorderawareness #sensoryprocessingsensitivity #sensoryprocessingdisorders #SensoryProcessingIssues #sensoryprocessingdifficulties #sensoryprocessingorder #sensoryprocess #fcvblogsquad

You may not always “understand” the eating experiences of your clients. Understanding should not be a prerequisite for compassion, validation and acceptance. Neurodivergence, Feeding Differences and ARFID ⁣ ⁣ We start on Tuesday! ⁣ ⁣ Equity spots are available ⁣ www.rdsforneurodiversity.com ⁣ ⁣ Our guest speakers will cover two modules in this nine-module comprehensive program for providers. ⁣ ⁣ If you support neurodivergent individuals and are looking for neuro-affirming continuing education to help your clients with eating challenges/differences, I invite you to explore this unique program. ⁣ ⁣ We hope this offering will help you expand your skills and feel more confident about supporting your clients. ⁣ ⁣ Guest Speaker ⁣ Shira Collings, MS, LPC (she/they) ⁣ ⁣ Part 7. Depathologizing ARFID ⁣ ⁣ In this session, providers will have the opportunity to discuss the de-pathologization of ARFID. Shira Collings will facilitate a discussion of how the neurodiversity paradigm can be applied to ARFID in order to facilitate accommodation and acceptance of this neurotype rather than providing treatments that can exacerbate disordered eating. Provides will explore ways they can work with clients with ARFID in a non-pathologizing way and learn practical strategies for affirming care.⁣ ⁣ Guest Speaker: Kris Scover, RDN, LD (they/them)⁣ ⁣ Part 9. Title: What ARFID Teaches Us: Case Studies & Lived Experiences ⁣ ⁣ In this session, Kris will explore the many things that ARFID can teach us about ourselves, eating disorder treatment, and the concept of recovery. They will highlight case studies and lived experiences (including their own lived experience) in an interactive presentation that will dig deep into the theory of ARFID, neurodivergence, and eating disorder treatment reconstruction. They will also address the complex intersection of ARFID with various eating disorders, neurodivergences, and chronic health conditions. Attendees will learn about the long-lasting damage that “gold-standard” eating disorder treatment has on ARFID clients and the way that ARFID treatment reconstruction can drive larger eating disorder treatment reconstruction. ⁣ ⁣ Learn with us!!⁣ ⁣

Autistic folks talk about sensory sensitivities and issues because they're not just something that casually annoy us, they can cause painful physical and emotional reactions, and impact our executive functioning skills. Loud noises, strong smells, and even certain textures can really affect us, and it can take us a lot of time and energy to regulate ourselves again. [Transcript] Autistic sensory sensitivities are usually more that 'just being uncomfortable'. Sensory issues, such as loud noises, can be physically painful, can trigger automatic behavioural responses, can impact executive function, and/or have serious emotional impacts. [Image Description] Text in a transparent white box floats over an image of a knitted purple and beige blanket made of fuzzy chenille yarn. While Sensory Processing Disorder is often dismissed as simply bad behavior, doctors who specialize in SPD know much more about what’s happening. To find the root cause of these struggles we have to go all the way back to your child’s development - often even before delivery. ➡️ One of the very first things to develop in utero is the brain and autonomic nervous system, so if our mothers are left in a constant state of distress and anxiety, this can greatly affect the developing infant’s brain 🧠 & nervous system. Another trigger of SPD is birth intervention and trauma which can disrupt the function of the brainstem and upper cervical spinal cord regions, which are the most important areas for processing and integrating sensory information before it reaches the brain. Think of the brainstem as “Air Traffic Control” for all of your child’s seven senses, where it’s responsible for not only organizing & processing the information but also keeping out unwanted nociception. 🔇 The reason your child may be avoiding certain stimuli is to avoid additional ‘noisy’ + stressful situations 😣 they can’t yet tolerate. Additionally, if they are constantly moving and seeking out physical touch and stimulation, they are doing so in order to bring about proprioception, which is the sense of movement. While it may not seem like it, all of that movement and touching things is actually calming their brain down. It's one thing to talk through ‘why’ this is happening - but more importantly, how do we help it? At PWC, we use INSiGHT Scans to find, track, & understand if subluxation and dysautonomia are present. And if they are, we need to know two things about them: 1️⃣ How significant or severe (mild, moderate, severe, or intensive)? 2️⃣ Where within the neurospinal system are things primarily located (tracking, targeting)? Making sure this system is working at full function is an important exam to perform for your child. 📣We just published a new blog addressing sensory integration and sensory processing disorder. . ✅How are sensory processing abilities assessed? . There are several strategies to assess sensory processing modulation, discrimination, and balance/postural skills. In occupational therapy, OT’s use parent report measures, standardized assessments in clinic and functional, skilled observations doing various activities to determine a child’s sensory processing skills. . ✅What does a sensory integration treatment session Look like? . Each treatment session will be very different depending on the client’s abilities and needs as Sensory Integration Therapy is highly personalized. The occupational therapist may provide structured exposure to sensory input through engagement in various sensory equipment, movement and balance activities. The OT will engage the child with sensory equipment and may incorporate environmental accommodations (or changes to the environment) to reach functional goals. . ➡️The occupational therapists at Columbia Pediatrics incorporate child-led, play based and purposeful, functional activities to promote their clients’ sensory health. . . . . #newblog #sensoryintergration #sensoryprocessing

Why Kids with Autism Avoid Eye Contact? Eye contact is an essential part of everyday social interactions. It helps us connect with others, convey emotions, and understand each other's intentions. However, for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), eye contact can be a significant challenge. **Difficulties in Social Interaction** Autism is characterized by difficulties in social interaction and communication. Children with ASD often have trouble understanding social cues and interpreting the emotions of others. Eye contact, which is a key social cue, can be overwhelming and confusing for them. Sensory Processing Issues Sensory processing issues are common in children with ASD. They may be over- or under-sensitive to certain sensory stimuli, such as bright lights, loud noises, or tactile sensations. Eye contact can be visually stimulating, and children with ASD may find it uncomfortable or even painful." #autism #autismawareness #asd #neurodiversity #eyecontact #sensoryprocessing #socialskills #understandingautism #autismacceptance #différentnotless #inclusivecommunication

Learning to use the toilet is an important milestone. Most children start working on this skill between 18 months and 3 years of age. The average age of potty training falls somewhere around 27 months. The timeline for your child will depend on their: · Signs of readiness · Developmental skills · Focus on the task Primitive reflex retention can play an important role in not being able to potty train during those typical years. . . . #pottytraining #developmentskills #motion360therapy #primitivereflexes #therapeuticlistening #occupationaltherapy #sensoryprocessing

🌱Little Freddy sat and sat and sat and sat with his Mama at Tiny One's for several months. Mama was so patient, and gave him exactly what he need, TIME. Then one beautiful, sunny, warm Friday morning, Freddy decided he would like to explore. Then Mama gave him SPACE to do just that! 👉Allowing children to play on their own, without an adult constantly telling them what to do is deeply important to their neurological system. Often times adults tell children what they need, and therefore children begin to not trust their own bodies. 👉As children grow older they need lots of time and space to play. They need a space physically and mentally to call their own. Children need time to learn what their interests and passions are. Their mental health depends on it! #setyourchildfree #makeplayvisible #timbernook #optoutside #barefoot #sensoryprocessing #childhoodmentalhealth #letchildrenplay #forestplay #happyfriday #selfdirectedlearning

Yes, crawling. It might seem like a basic activity, but it's incredibly beneficial for various aspects of development: 👉Ocular Motor and Visual Skills: Crawling helps your child practice using their eyes to track movement and objects, which is essential for developing strong visual skills.4 👉Primitive Reflex Integration: By crawling, your child engages in a natural movement pattern that helps integrate primitive reflexes, which are instinctual movements present from birth. 👉Upper Body and Hand Strength: Crawling requires your child to support their weight on their arms, helping to strengthen their upper body muscles and improve hand coordination. 👉Bilateral Coordination: Crawling involves coordinating movements on both sides of the body, which promotes balance and coordination between the left and right sides of the brain. 👉Sensory Processing: As your child crawls, they receive sensory input from the environment, such as textures on the floor or objects they encounter. This sensory stimulation is crucial for developing sensory processing skills. Encouraging crawling not only supports these key areas of development but also lays the foundation for future motor skills and cognitive abilities. So, get down on the floor with your child and make crawling a fun part of their daily playtime routine! #childdevelopment #braindevelopment #crawlingbenefits #milestones #motordevelopment #visualskills #sensoryprocessing #bilateralcoordination #sensoryinput #parentingtips #childhooddevelopment #cognitiveabilities #occupationaltherapy #pediatrictherapy #earlyintervention #sensoryintegration #childhealth #sensorydevelopment #sensoryawareness #developmentalmilestones #therapyworks #holistichealth #childwellbeing #parenting101 #sensorysupport #earlychildhood #movementtherapy

What does a hand 🤚 reflex have to do with speech 🗣️ and feeding 🍴 development? 🤔 The Palmar Reflex is important in the first 12 weeks of life for grasping and gripping. This reflex should integrate by 6-9 months old to make way for later developing skills like picking up small pieces of food 🍉 🍌 🥒 🍪 🧇with the thumb and index finger and voluntarily releasing an object (Think about that exhausting “game” of they drop it, you pick it up, and the cycle continues! 🥱) But, why is this important for speech 🗣️ and feeding🍴 development? 🧐 There is a direct link between the Palmar ✋ Reflex and early feeding skills! This reflex can actually be elicited by sucking movements (think kneading of the hands while nursing 🤱) Think about when a child first learns to button a shirt 👔 or write ✍️… children will often stick out their tongue or lick their lips… and if the reflex doesn’t become integrated, they will adopt an immature grip that will impact development of neat, legible writing ✍️ and can have an adverse affect on fine muscle coordination, including those muscles needed for feeding and speech articulation! When the reflexive relationship between the hands 🙌🏻 and mouth 👄 continue it can negatively impact the fine motor control of muscles in the mouth 👄 needed to produce clear and precise speech 🎤 and manipulation of food in the mouth during feeding 🍽️ The 🧠 brain based program we use at Delta Genesis ✨ addresses this reflex and SO MUCH more! Reflex integration is just one piece of the puzzle 🧩! DM me for more information about the approach we use to help families navigate this journey 🚀 There is hope 🌈 #mellilomethod #deltagenesis #reflexintegration #speechlanguagepathology #balancingthebrain #learningdisabilities

🗣️ The Tonic Labyrinthine Reflex (TLR) plays a significant role in shaping your child's speech, language, and communication skills🧠💬 The TLR is the foundation of the vestibular 🧠 system (I’ll talk about that in a future post… SUPER important!) When the TLR is active, it can influence body posture, head control, and even impact the development of oral motor skills crucial for clear communication. ✨ Understanding and addressing the TLR can be a game-changer in supporting your little one's journey 🚀 to effective speech, language and communication. 💥 Recognizing a retained Tonic Labyrinthine Reflex (TLR) involves observing certain everyday signs in children 🧒 👧 1. **Challenges with Head 🧒 Control:** Difficulty in maintaining stable head control, especially when moving between positions like sitting and standing. 2. **Balance Issues:** ⭐️ Children might struggle with balance and coordination, affecting activities such as walking, running, riding a bike or navigating uneven surfaces. Children with a retained TLR could be seen as “clumsy”, falling often or running into things! 3. **Poor Postural Control:** 💥 A retained TLR can contribute to challenges in maintaining proper posture, impacting activities like sitting comfortably at a desk or table. These are the kiddos that lay their head on their desk or slouch in their chair. Poor postural control impacts control of structures needed for clear and precise speech 🎤 and articulation! 4. **Oral Motor Difficulties:** 👄 Coordinating oral movements, such as difficulties with chewing, swallowing, or articulating speech sounds. 5. **Fine Motor Skill Delays:** 🌟 Issues with tasks like handwriting ✍️ or manipulating small objects can be linked to a retained TLR affecting overall motor coordination. Motor coordination is CRUCIAL in speech development! The brain 🧠 based program that I use with Delta Genesis ✨ addresses this reflex and these symptoms and SO MUCH more! 💥 DM me “TLR” and I’ll send you a short video explaining some of the science behind the approach we use to support children and families on their journey 🚀

🌟 Did you know that the Symmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex (STNR) plays a crucial role in your child's speech and language development 👶💬 and so much more! 💥 When the STNR is active, it can influence a child’s ability to coordinate head and neck movements, impacting posture and oral motor skills. 🧠✨ Understanding and addressing the STNR can be a key step in supporting your little one's communication journey. 🚀 A retained Symmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex (STNR) can manifest in various ways in daily activities: 1. **Difficulty Crawling:** 🌟Children with a retained STNR might struggle with crawling as the reflex interferes with the reciprocal movement of the arms and legs. Contrary to recent CDC milestones, crawling is a CRUCIAL milestone for later speech and language development! 2. **Challenges in Hand-Eye Coordination:** ✍️ Writing, drawing, or even catching a ball 🏈 may be more difficult due to disrupted integration of hand and eye movements. 3. **Poor Posture:** 🚶🏻‍♀️A retained STNR can impact posture, causing difficulties in sitting upright for extended periods 🕰️ or maintaining proper alignment during fine motor tasks. 4. **Oral Motor Issues:** 👄 It can affect the coordination of oral muscles, leading to challenges in activities like chewing, swallowing, or articulating speech sounds. 5. **Reading 📖 and Writing ✍️ Difficulties:** Children might face challenges in tracking lines of text, as the STNR influences head movements, potentially impacting smooth eye movements needed for reading. Understanding and addressing these challenges can be crucial for supporting a child's overall development, including speech, language and communication! The brain 🧠 based program I use with Delta Genesis ✨ addresses these symptoms by targeting integration of the STNR! 🌟 DM me “STNR” and I’ll send you a 13 minute video explaining some of the science 🧬 behind our program and why it’s so powerful in bringing change to the children and families we serve! There is hope 🌈

💥 What if the ATNR (Asymmetric Tonic Neck Reflex) isn’t integrated on time ⏰ Symptoms of a Retained Asymmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex (ATNR): 1. **Delayed Hand-Eye 👁️ 🤚 Coordination:** Difficulty coordinating hand movements with visual input, possibly affecting tasks like reaching for objects. Babies (and ultimately children) learn from exploring their environment… experience impacts motor development, which impacts language and cognitive development! 2. **Balance and Posture 🚶🏻Issues:** Challenges in maintaining balance and posture, which may become apparent during activities such as sitting or standing. If you’re kiddo slouched, puts their chin in their hands, lays on their belly to read or do work… this! Kids also need strength and stability in their posture to have stability and strength in their mouth 👄 for speech! 3. **Crossed Midline Challenges:** Difficulty crossing the midline of the body, impacting activities that involve reaching across the center of the body….. including READING 📖 and WRITING ✍️ from left to right! 4. **Fine Motor Skill Delays:** Delays in the development of fine motor skills, affecting tasks like ✍️ writing, buttoning, or using utensils 🥄 🍴 ✏️ ✂️ … and even SPEECH! Speech is the most complex fine motor movement for us to execute! 5. **Visual Tracking Problems:** Issues with smooth visual tracking, leading to difficulties following objects with the eyes. 6. **Difficulty with Bilateral Integration:** Trouble coordinating movements between both sides of the body, impacting activities that require synchronized actions…. SPEECH is a highly synchronized action! 💥 The brain 🧠 based program I use targets integration of this reflex, and many more! But, reflex integration is only ONE piece of the 🧩 puzzle! DM me for more info! There is hope 🌈

What if traditional speech and language therapy isn’t working for your kiddo 🧒 👧 ? Traditional speech and language approaches don’t always lead to the kind of progress 😔 that many parents have hoped to see with their child’s speech, language and communication, especially those with diagnosis like Autism. Many parents have lost hope 🌈 that their child can and will learn to use age appropriate speech and language and to communicate functionally. Well, I’m here to say, THERE 👏🏻 ABSOLUTELY 👏🏻 IS 👏🏻 HOPE 🌈 Traditional speech and language approaches are more “top down”, symptoms based, approaches. They do not typically address the underlying neurological 🧠 root causes of the symptoms kids 🧒 👧 are manifesting. Although important, they are one piece of the puzzle 🧩! A brain 🧠 based approach is required to pull out the greatest potential 🙌🏻 especially in the areas of speech, language and communication 🗣️ Targeting unintegrated primitive reflexes, nervous system regulation and stimulation of the immature areas of a child’s brain 🧠 are all necessary to bring about a child’s greatest speech, language and communication potential! 🙌🏻 Functional speech, language and communication are ALL positive ⭐️ symptoms of a well integrated, well regulated, and mature neurological system 👏🏻 This is the approach I am now implementing in my collaboration with Delta Genesis! 🌟 If you have a kiddo that has hit a road block or is stuck in their speech, language, or communication development, reach out! Or if this reminds you of a friend or family member, please share! ✨ It’s literally my passion ❤️ and purpose to support children and families 🤗 and to bring hope 🌈 back to the journey! 💥Stay tuned for more info on each of the pieces of the brain based approach and how it relates to how children develop speech, language and communication! #autism #hopewithautism #deltagenisis #deltameanschange #autismsupport #autismfamily #autismparentsupport #melillomethod

🧠 Understanding the Impact of the Moro Reflex on Speech and Language Development 🗣 Hey friends! 👋 Did you know that a primitive reflex called the Moro reflex can play a significant role in speech and language development in children? 🧒👧 The Moro reflex is an automatic response seen in infants when they feel a sudden change in their position or experience a loud noise, or something comes into their visual field too quickly. While this reflex is essential for survival and protection in the early stages of life, it can cause issues if it's not integrated properly. 😮 When the Moro reflex remains unintegrated past the typical age, it can cause an unwanted set of symptoms to manifest. Symptoms could include sensory sensitivities 💥 emotional reactions (like anxiety), 💥 poor concentration 💥 fine motor challenges 💥 balance and coordination issues 💥 speech and language delays 💥 poor emotional regulation 💥 poor attention 💥 and academic challenges! Speech and language involve complex motor skills, sensory processing, and attention. If a child is constantly in a state of heightened sensitivity due to an unintegrated Moro reflex, it can be challenging for them to concentrate on communication tasks. 🤐 Recognizing and addressing this issue early is crucial, ⭐️ as timely intervention can make a significant difference in a child's development. The brain 🧠 based program that I use, in collaboration with my friends at Delta Genesis, aims to integrate primitive reflexes like the Moro reflex (and several others)! We also work to integrate both hemispheres of the brain 🧠 to establish and restore the balance necessary for maximum manifestation of your child’s potential! DM me for more details on how I can help! There is hope 🌈

Rooting Reflex & Communication 🧠 Did you know that the retained rooting reflex, which is typically present in newborns, might have an interesting connection to speech and communication delays? 🤔 Prolonged presence of this reflex could lead to the following symptoms: 1. **Persistent Mouth 👄 Movement:** Continued turning of the head and opening of the mouth when the cheek or mouth area is touched. So kids may not like their face washed or wiped, or may try to bite you when you try! These kiddos have a “messy” face often 🤗 2. **Difficulty with Solid Foods 🍗 🥦 🥗 :** Challenges transitioning to solid foods due to ongoing rooting responses. 3. **Speech 🗣️ and Communication Delays:** Prolonged rooting reflex might interfere with the development of oral motor skills, potentially impacting speech and communication milestones. 4. **Oral Sensitivity:** Heightened sensitivity around the mouth area, leading to aversions or challenges with activities like teeth brushing 🪥 5. **Difficulty with Latching 🥛 :** In infants, a retained rooting reflex may cause challenges with breastfeeding, as the baby might have trouble maintaining a proper latch. Understanding these subtle links between early reflexes and later milestones can provide valuable insights into child development. It's fascinating how interconnected our developmental 🌱 journey really is! If you have a child or know a child with these symptoms, reach out! The brain 🧠 based program I use can address a retained rooting reflex and help relieve these symptoms! There is hope 🌈
