🐾Welcome Dawson ( #A796840)to the rescue. He was found as a stray with a bandana on😢 Such a sweet dog in pictures and videos and yet no one came up to adopt him. Devore Shelter had him listed as being 8yrs old and when I took him to the vet, confirmed he's about 2yrs old😮🤔 I know a lot of people look for young dogs as opposed to senior so was unfair to him to get looked over for that reason😡 I gave him a medical bath cause it's flea/tick season and also gave medications for worms 🤢He is already neutered and received shots today. So many people went into helping this case get to where it is today. With the girls being in their adoptive home (together) and their new humans having more tangible joy in their lives. This weekend involved just some of the people. From Ginny who did such an amazing job fostering and caring for the girls until the right home could be found. To everyone that was a part of this 15 leg two day transport. That was foster mom Ginny, Sara Fraederichs, Marianne Plath (Zuri’s mom) Laura Bourque, Heather Dubie who did two legs and nearly absconded with the bookends, Diane McKenzie, our own VRO and regional coordinator Daniel Gauthier to the last Saturday volunteer Anne Culi. The girls stayed at her place near Cleveland Saturday night and boy did they have fun. Then Sunday Anne took the girl east to Rachael Moore, Ryan Fraser/Granger, Jamie McNamara, Pam Munson and Holli Frazier from Orange Street Cats and handed off to long time friend and supporter Debi Whitcomb (aka Mickey’s Mom). Mikey’s mom got the honor of delivering Lavern and Shirley to their soon to be adopters Chip and Lori Lape. And finally to Chip and Lori Lape who opened their hearts and their homes to this sweet pair of rapscallions. 🆘 OZZY & TOGO are RED LISTED at Harbor Shelter & past due. They can be euthanized at anytime (as soon as signed off)🆘 There are some dogs with behavioral issues in the back areas that volunteers are not allowed. But there are also some dogs there because of overcrowding who get completely overlooked. 2 of those dogs are Ozzy & Togo & we feel their story should be shared. Togo (husky dad) & Ozzy (gsd/husky son) are owner surrenders due to landlord issues on 3/26. They are both big dogs at approximately 100 lbs each & are housed in the same Obs kennel. Reading their owner surrender notes, we are sad we have missed out on knowing these boys 😭. Per their owner’s description - 2 year old Ozzy “loves to hug & follow u around the house”, 5 year old Togo is “very cuddly & has a big smile when pet”. Togo was purchased from Craigslist & Ozzy was born in the home. The owner says both dogs know their commands, play together but defend their toys/food, and are friendly & affectionate with people. Ozzy (the gsd mix) is more shy & can bark at strangers whereas Togo is more outgoing. Notes indicate they were both nervous & snapping on intake day, but Togo at least recently appeared friendly at the kennel door with staff. In their time at harbor they have never been taken out by volunteers. As a result they have high FAS. We have no pics or videos & we are sad we failed these bonded boys. Please remember if your dogs enter the shelter, they may be unlucky in their kennel location. They may be a great dog but not be advocated for, nor noticed & not make it out. Blue came to us after being seized from a home when his owner was detained. We are not 100% sure how Blues life was prior to the shelter, but so far here, he is a little nervous of new people but with some treats and gentle talk, he can warm up to you. Blue is sensitive to his neck and rear being touched. Blue wags his tail when he knows he is being taken out for a walk and does well on leash but can pull at times and is strong. Due to his head/collar sensitivity and strength, he is recommended to a home with older teens 16 and up. He began to anxiously pace the catch pen. He pawed at the door, scratched the turf, and stood on his hindlegs whining. The handler allowed him into the yard with the dogs, he stopped to exchange greetings. Initially, he had a neutral body posture, a relaxed tail wag, soft eyes, and his natural ear set. He then causally roamed around the yard, sniffing the yard, and marking various areas. He would rub his body along the dogs' bodies and rub his body along the gate. As he watched the other dogs and observed their behavior, he began to seek out those with a kick me sign and pin them down. The handler had to steer him away a few times. He would assertively mount some of the males, using his neck to gain leverage before climbing on their backs. He would also bite at the dog's backsides when they ran past him. Duke needed quiet a bit of steering while in the yard. Eventually he was shifted into a yard by himself and given time to roam. Duke had no playstyle, is selective of other dogs and had a medium energy level. This beautiful girl is Stardew, a year and nine-month-old sweetheart. She has quickly become a star at the shelter, not just because of her striking black and white merle coloring and heterochromia (two different colored eyes) but she also has the personality of a little star in the making! She might take a minute to warm up to you, but when she does it is all love and cuddles! One of her favorite ways to spend her time outside is sitting right on top of your lap soaking in the sunshine. Recently, Stardew went on a Dog Day Out with one of our amazing volunteers and they said her youthful energy and enthusiasm for learning led them to have the most entertaining day ever! She wolfed down a cheeseburger with impeccable manners and then proceeded to take a nice long nap to work off those extra calories. It was only made cuter by the precious little snores that Stardew let out while napping away. Stardew was a total charmer and had everyone around her fully enamored!
