. . In this life of mine I have been many things, but today I am reminded that I have been mostly brave. Brave, because: “ Being this frightened for as long as you have under the conditions you have endured and you still managing to conjure the courage to get up and try again, and again, and again…takes guts or stupidity, and you Debra, are in no way a stupid woman.“. Debatable, but I do like to think that all this courage, all this bravery, has been gifted to me; generationally and spiritually passed down by all the brave women who walked before me. . For International Women Day . Audacity’s Ghosts All these women with snakes for hair. All these women; paving statues into roads; roads for silenced voices with more stones to throw. All these women who struggled life and limb. All these women; on their backs and on their knees going to war for the right to breathe; breathe anything other than smoke. All these women; history’s burned stakes. All these women; Audacity’s ghosts; ghosts rage screaming bravery from wedding band graves; holes dug with letters stolen from their names. All these women arrowing their torch song echolocation. All these women; singing bravery into footsteps and porch lights and frightened pounding hearts; singing torch songs of better days ahead. All these women breathing bridges of fire. All these women; torches in the dark. . . #allthesewomen #women #thosebeforeus #poetryoftheday #apoeticview #poetryinmotion #poetrynation #poema #poemoftheday #poetryislife #writersandpoets #poetrygram #yyc #poeticreveries_ #glassofmeadreads #poetsandwriters #poetsanonymousink #poeticreveries #poeticvibes #poetry #poetrycommunity #poems #poem #urdupoetry #poetrylovers #poetryisnotdead #poetryofinstagram #poemas #writersandpoets

This month is Women’s History Month. I am thankful for the beauty of those who stood before us. The Women who moved past unconsciously waiting for the people around them to give permission to believe in their value and pave their own path. The women who understood their femininity is their power. Remember ladies… We don’t need to step into the masculine role to be successful.. Your success is directly tied to you being your authentic beauty… ie self! #womenhistorymonth #thosebeforeus #beauty #feminity #womensupportingwomen #ladyboss #ocrealtors #branding #creatingyiurbrand

***FUN FACT FRIDAY*** Did you know that the only breed of swine developed in Canada, was developed right here in Lacombe?! The Lacombe pig was the result of an extensive animal breeding and genetics program at the Lacombe Research Station. Breed development started in 1947 with crosses of Berkshire sows to boars of Danish Landrace and Chester White ancestry. The goal was to produce a pig that could be crossed with Yorkshires, the dominant breed at the time. The Lacombe pig was specifically bred to be raised in confinement as dedicated hog barns began to proliferate. The Lacombe was unveiled to pork producers in 1957 and quickly grew to be a popular breed in Canada. Long in body, the white medium-sized pigs grow to a length of about 4.5 feet with short legs and a meaty conformation. They were known for their docile temperament and large droopy ears. Now the breed is on Heritage Livestock Canada's critically endangered list. 📸 - The breeding program that founded the Lacombe pig at the Lacombe Research Station was under the direction of Jack Stothart and Howard Fredeen (pictured) courtesy of @lacombemuseums #LacombePig #Pig #BestOfLacombe #FunFact #TheMoreYouKnow #LacombeResearchStation #History #Stothart #Fredeen #Agriculture #Livestock #Research #Alberta #Facts #ThoseBeforeUs #HometownMarket

***FUN FACT FRIDAY*** Meet Arthur D. Gregson, one of the first to settle the Burbank area just southeast of Blackfalds in 1890. This pioneer was able to supplement his farming income by selling fleas! Gregson was born in England and had an early interest in insects, winning prizes for his moth and butterfly collection in his teens. While he first broke land for crops and raised pine martens, mink, and fox when he settled, he was able to make some additional money by collecting fleas off his animals. He would lay a white sheet on a carcass, making the fleas easy to see when they hopped from the body of the animal onto the sheet. He would then scoop them into bottles and preserve them with alcohol and ship them to a well known banking family back in London that collected insects, birds, mammals, fish and reptiles from around the world. There's even a wild story about Gregson and his two nieces from England going on a packing expedition in the Ya Ha Tinda area, where they ended up trapped for the winter due to an early heavy snowfall. They survived off wild meat, fish, and a diet heavy with squirrel. They emerged in the spring with furs, skins, and insects to sell. The girls earned $60 from the sale of fleas to the same British family, the Rothschilds, which was enough for each to buy a saddle! 📸 Blackfalds Archives #FunFacts #TheMoreYouKnow #BestOfCentralAlberta #Blackfalds #Pioneer #Fleas #Farmer #Businessman #GetCreative #Alberta #Gregson #History #ThoseBeforeUs

My dearest Mother, my guiding light, my constant source of encouragement, My greatest teacher of all time x Oceans apart really does it for me 😢 It took for me to move this far from you to really appreciate you the way I should’ve all my life. You’re always going over and above to cater for us even when we are more than capable. The most selfless person I know. I am grateful for you always in all ways for everything you have taught me. All of which aids in who I have become as a mother to my very own. My style of parenting is very much different from yours in a lot of ways. I’ve taken everything I’ve seen throughout my life, both good, bad and ugly and used it to my advantage to do better, to evolve and I know you’re proud. You never fail to tell me so 🥹🥹 Just know that I would choose you to be my mum and do it all over again if it meant I could be the person/daughter/sister/Aunty annnnd Mother that I am today ❤️ I hope someday my kids take everything that I am as their mother and become a better version as a parent and so forth, but also look to me the way I look to you today 🫶 with so much love and gratitude Olive x #mygreatestteacher #gratitude #grateful🙏 #mum #mumlife #parenting #motherhood #love #liveandlearn #lifelessons #growth #appreciation #appreciate #parents #thosebeforeus

🍃Samhain Prayer 🍂 The veil grows thin at the time of the dead, As we honour our long-gone ancestors, In whose footsteps we tread. Life retreats into the bulbs and the roots, The time has passed for the flowers and the fruits, As leaves fall thick and carpet the ground, The Dark Mother waits in silence profound. Now is the time for the apple feasts, Time stands still for humans and beasts Seek the wisdom of days gone by, To deal with the past and let it lie. Face your shadow and accept your faults, Look now to the future to seek your results. I know I am a couple days late but I had to wait for my uncle to open his present so I didn’t spoil the surprise. Thank you to my uncle Mike and all of those who served. Without each and every one of you we wouldn’t have many of the opportunities we all have today. We must never forget how fortunate we are.
