Time Flies When You're Chasing the Sun! 🌅 Can you believe how quickly this week has passed? It feels like we just zipped up our bags for Utah, and now we're off to Cancun tomorrow. Flying really does feel like a time machine! 🚀 Coming home from the dry, heavenly desert to a blooming, greening New England was just the perfect welcome. Before we board our next flight, I want to take a moment to reflect on the epic whirlwind that was last week. 🌵🚐 George and I traveled through the Mighty 5 + 2 extras (hello Monument Valley and Red Rock Canyon!) in a @nativecampervans, chasing every sunrise and sunset. What an adventure! 🌄🧡 Just when you think you’ve seen it all, the world surprises you again. There are places that feel familiar yet are utterly unique, much like us. Every new landscape rekindles my childhood dream of being a National Geographic photographer—driven by a craving to see and share the world's awe-inspiring beauty. The Island in the Sky mesa rests on sheer sandstone cliffs over 1,000 feet above the surrounding terrain. Every overlook offers a different perspective on Canyonlands’ spectacular landscape. Did you even go to Bryce Canyon if you didn’t get there for sunrise?! (Yes of course you did, but also.. you missed out 😂) Highly recommend setting that early alarm on the day(s) you plan to visit this national park. It is worth it to see the canyon full of hoodoos come to life with orange glow 🧡 If you’re going in April, don’t forget winter layers and a hot drink because the early mornings are COLD!

Discover stunning views of the sandstone spires that characterize the Needles District at the Chesler Park Viewpoint. Located in the heart of Canyonlands National Park, this popular trail leads to a pass overlooking a scenic expanse of desert grasses and shrubs surrounded by multi-hued sandstone formations. The rugged beauty of Chesler Park, with its pinnacles and knobs, creates a mesmerizing landscape that’s perfect for hikers seeking adventure. Be prepared for a strenuous hike, uneven terrain, and breathtaking vistas that make every step worthwhile. Don’t forget to bring water, sturdy footwear, and your sense of wonder! 🏞️🥾 🌄 Geology: Chesler Park is nestled within the Needles District, a unique region of Canyonlands National Park. The striking landscape here is shaped by millions of years of geological processes. The iconic red and white sandstone formations, known as cedar mesa sandstone, were deposited during the late Permian and early Triassic periods. Erosion, uplift, and faulting have sculpted these spires, arches, and pinnacles into the mesmerizing shapes we see today. The contrasting layers of rock reveal the ancient history of this desert environment, where wind and water have relentlessly worked their magic. Water shapes this environment more than any other force. Rain erodes the rock and carries sediment down washes and canyons to the Colorado River. Desert varnish appears where water cascades off cliffs. In winter, snowmelt pools in fractures and other cavities, then freezes and expands, breaking off chunks of sandstone. Small recesses develop and grow bigger with each storm.
