From our house in Kanab, we hiked the Tom’s Canyon, Cliff Trail, Connection Trail to Squaw Trail. We needed to walk though some bushes on top of the ridge as their were many cows and a big bull on the trail. Final post in our canyon | desert | mountain series. We flew back from Durango KDRO to Santa Rosa KSTS yesterday. Amazing six hours of awe inspiring views. Departed with a flyover of our friends lovely ranch then onto views of Durango, then Mesa Verde National Park. Our flight path took us again over Monument Valley and Lake Powell, then Vermilion Cliffs and Kanab Creek Wilderness north of the Grand Canyon. Over Lake Mead, and while we planned to go directly over Las Vegas air space, a brief low ceiling and rain from virgas (rain coming from clouds that evaporates before hits the ground) deflected us south. Onto the desert where we landed at Barstow Daggett #KDAG field for fuel, a ghost of an airport, with some serious Blackhawk ex military helicopters sporting around. Back northwest through the familiar central valley, where we continue to be saddened by the smoke-induced low viz. This time the KNPcomplex fire to the east with a huge pyrocumulus threatening the worlds largest tree in Sequoia National Park. His parents are Mom, Condor 296 who was born in captivity in Boise ID and released in 2004 and Dad, Condor 266 who was born in captivity in San Diego, CA and released in 2005. Awesome sighting.
